PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We come to the end of the Liturgical Year as we celebrate The
Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. We also bring to an
end the Holy Year of Mercy. What graces He has given to all of
us!
Next weekend, we will begin the Holy Season of Advent, celebrating the coming of Christ to our world, to all of us. Let us cry
out to Him with all our hearts, in gratitude, and in longing to
walk even more closer with Him, the only source of salvation.
“Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom …” Luke 23:42

to the blind, to let the oppressed go
free” (Luke 4:18)
For over 40 years, CCHD has worked to defend human dignity and take poverty off the
map. Local programs supported by CCHD have
changed neighborhoods across the country.
With the tradition of improving education, housing situations and economic development,
CCHD continues to make a positive impact on
communities nationwide. We need your help to
continue to meet the needs of more than 46
million people who still struggle to overcome
poverty. Envelopes are at the doors. Please

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect

WE ARE SORRY ...
During the week, our young people who are preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time will be reflecting on sorrow for
sin and confession.
Join them by reflecting on the actions and patterns in your life that distance you from a deeper
relationship with Jesus and the Church. Pray to
the Holy Spirit to awaken sorrow and contrition in
you and that you may be blessed with the ability to
say “I am sorry.”
THE CRACKS IN OUR LIVES
We have such amazing
families here at OLPH. Our
year 2 parents came out to
share and reflect on forgiveness. It was such a
powerful 2 nights. We
came to understand each
of us has our own unique
flaws. We’re all like cracked pots, but if we allow it,
the Lord will use our flaws to grace His Father's
table. In God's great economy nothing goes to
waste. So as we seek ways to minister together
and as God calls you to tasks He has appointed
for you, don't be afraid of your flaws. Acknowledge
them, and allow Him to take advantage of them,
and you too, can be the cause of beauty in His
pathway. Go out boldly, knowing that in our weakness we find His strength, and that "In Him every
one of God's promises is a Yes." We still have
cracks, but we continue to seek the Lord’s light to
shine through our life, knowing that the Sacrament
of Reconciliation will make us whole again!!

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN
Bullying prevention starts at home
From cyberbullying to name-calling and exclusion, bullying can affect people of every age,
especially kids and teens in school. Their peers
can be cruel, so it’s important to talk about how
to handle bullies, especially before a situation
escalates. One way to stop the cycle of bullying
in its tracks, is to teach kids to speak kindly to
others and to treat everyone around them with
respect.

PAPAL INTENTION FOR NOVEMBER

refugees may find support for their efforts which
show solidarity.
Missionary Intention: That within parishes,
priests and lay people may collaborate in service to the community without giving in to the
temptation of discouragement.

SAINT CECILIA
In the city of Rome there was a
virgin named Cecilia, who came
from an extremely rich family and
was given in marriage to a youth
named Valerian.
During her wedding ceremony
she was said to have sung in her
heart to God and before the consummation of her nuptials, she
told her husband she had taken a vow of virginity and had an angel protecting her.
Valerian was baptized by Pope Urbanus. Following his baptism, Valerian returned to his wife
and found an angel at her side.
When Valerian's brother, Tibertius, heard of
his brother's baptism, he also was baptized and
together the brothers dedicated their lives to
burying the saints who were murdered each day
by the prefect of the city, Turcius Almachius.
Both brothers were eventually arrested and
brought before the prefect where they were executed after they refused to offer a sacrifice to the
gods.
Cecilia was later arrested and condemned to
be suffocated in the baths. She was shut in for
one night and one day, as fires were heaped up
and stoked to a terrifying heat - but Cecilia did
not even sweat.
When Almachius heard this, he sent an executioner to cut off her head in the baths. The
executioner struck her three times but was unable to decapitate her so he left her bleeding
and she lived for three days.
On the third day she died and was buried by
Pope Urban and his deacons.
St. Cecilia's remains were transferred to Cecilia's titular church in Trastevere and placed under the high altar.

SANTA CECILIA
En la ciudad de Roma había una
Virgen llamada Cecilia, que
provenía de una familia muy rica y
que fue dada en matrimonio a un
joven llamado Valerian.
