St. James asks what our love for Jesus Christ can possibly
mean if it does not result in action on behalf of our neighbor.
He suggests that that faith is demonstrated most acutely in
care for the needy, the suffering, and the underprivileged.
Stewardship includes proclaiming the Good News by putting
our faith into action on behalf of others. In what ways
have we been willing to make sacrifices and renunciations
for the sake of Jesus Christ and our neighbor?

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Saint Vincent’s Corner
In today’s Gospel Jesus says “If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross,
and follow in my steps.” The cross of Jesus and the crosses of his members can evangelize us: the sick, who
bear illness with courage; the grieving, who hope against hope; the dying, who clearly trust in the resurrection; the
suffering of our poor brothers and sisters who are hungry and homeless, but who still trust in God’s love.
Is there a neighbor or friend of yours who is in temporary need because of a loss of a job or an illness?
Please leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul…we want to help!

Renovacion de Fe Trinitaria—13 de octubre

church. Parents and adults witness their faith to family members and others through family prayer and participation in parish life. Everyday family activities, such as meals, travelling in
the car, family routines, can be opportunities to teach children
about God and acknowledge his presence in their lives.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHINGS
In today’s Gospel, even though Peter proclaims the truth that
Jesus is the Messiah, the disciples are ordered not to tell
others. Jesus had to remove their false ideas about the Messiah. Jesus would not be a great political savior, but rather, a
suffering servant who would save us through his passion and
death on the cross. Jesus taught his disciples then, and
teaches us now, that his disciples must accept the cross of
dying to self in order to follow him. Following Jesus will bring
us into direct confrontation with the values of our culture:
materialism, consumerism and a callous disregard for human
life and dignity. Are we ready to carry that cross?
