Communally during Advent, Lent, and as scheduled .
Saint Canera, patroness of Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat with an
oil lamp, the symbol of wisdom and virginity, with a monastery on
an island in the background where she sought spiritual rest. She
was refused entrance to the island but was given Eucharist just
before she died. The shamrock speaks to her Irish ancestry.

MISSION STATEMENT
The parish family of St. Canera sees as its mission to
work together and in the larger community to know,
love, and serve God. Based on Scripture, the sacraments, and our Roman Catholic tradition, we seek to
recognize our dependence on God, grow spiritually,
become images of Christ, educate adults and assist in
educating children, and as God’s instruments, share our
faith with and welcome others.

Las soluciones
Este domingo la Iglesia celebra la
Epifanía del Señor y esta fiesta es
el centro o punto más alto de nuestro tiempo de Navidad. Contrariamente a nuestra cultura americana,
el tiempo de Navidad para nosotros
termina con el Bautismo del Señor,
que lo celebraremos el 10 de enero
de este año y se continúa con la celebración de la manifestación del Señor a través de este día de fiesta. Como
Católicos, la Epifanía es una conmemoración de la manifestación de Dios a todas las naciones, lo que significa
que la visita de los Reyes Magos y las implicaciones de
esta misma visita nos muestran que Dios se hizo hombre
a través de Jesús para beneplácito de todo en el mundo;
porque Cristo es la revelación de Dios para todas las personas. La fiesta de la Epifanía nos muestra que Dios se
manifiesta, que es visible, que es incuestionable su existencia entre y para nosotros. Al igual que los Reyes Magos que están en búsqueda de la verdad, Dios se muestra sucesivamente a la gente cuando ellos buscan el
amor, la luz y la verdad en este mundo. Ningún grupo en
el mundo puede controlar esa búsqueda. Podemos encontrarnos personas cuyos corazones rebosan de sinceridad, amor y generosidad en todas partes del mundo y
en todas las religiones; el amor a Dios, así como el amor
a los demás indica la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas. Al comenzar el año nuevo, vamos a desafiarnos a
nosotros mismos para poder ser mujeres y hombres sabios. Iniciemos nuestro caminar con una mirada que busca y desea ver la luz, la verdad, el amor, ver a Dios...
dondequiera que Él se encuentre. Que este sea el año
en que, al igual que los Reyes Magos, estemos dispuestos a confrontar todos los desafíos y viajes difíciles para
asi, poder encontrar al Dios que está siempre presente y
que se ha dado libremente a cada uno de nosotros.
Y entonces, como los dones de oro, incienso y
mirra dados a Jesús, honremos la presencia
de Dios a través de nuestras palabras,
nuestras acciones y nuestras vidas.

This Sunday the Church celebrates the Epiphany of the Lord and this feast is the apex, or
high point, of our Christmas season. Contrary
to our American culture, the Christmas season
for us does not end until the Baptism of the
Lord on January 10 this year and we continue
to celebrate the manifestation of the Lord
through that feast day. As Catholics, Epiphany
is a commemoration of the manifestation of God to all the nations
meaning that the visit of the Magi and the implications of that visit
show us that God born in the flesh of Jesus is for everyone in the
world because Christ is the revelation of God to all people. This
feast of Epiphany or the manifestation shows us that God is manifest, is visible, is evident to us. Like the Magi searching for truth,
God is shown forth wherever people are searching for love and
light and truth in the world. No group in the world is going to control
that search. We find sincere and loving and generous hearts in
every country and every religion; their love of God and love of others indicates the presence of God in their lives. As we begin our
new year, let us challenge ourselves to be wise women and wise
men. Let us journey with eyes searching to see the light, to see the
truth, to see the love, to see goodness…wherever it is found. Let
this be the year we, like the wise men, are willing to go on
the same kind of stretching and perilous journeys to
find the God that is always present and freely given to
all. And then, like the gifts of gold, frankincense, and
myrrh given to Jesus, let us honor the presence of God
through our words, actions, and lives.
