Page 3 September 28, 2014 PASTOR’S REFLECTION Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 28, 2014 Dear Friends, What would it look like in my life for me to follow Paul’s instruction to the Philippians not to look out for my own interests, but to look out for the interests of others? What concrete changes would this make in my life? • In giving His life for us Jesus teaches how to live. As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you and your dear family abundantly each day. Please pray for me. In Christ, Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann DO NOT WAIT TO RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Often, the priest is called to the bedside of a dying person when that person has already lost consciousness or many months and even years into the illness. How sad it is that often the sick person does not receive the strength of this beautiful Sacrament while they are fully conscious. In the celebration of the Sacrament we pray for healing and for strength needed during the time of illness. It is a wonderful opportunity for the sick person and their family to pray together and a great source of comfort. Please do not neglect your dear ones who are sick and wait until the last minute to call the priest. Take advantage of this beautiful celebration of hope and peace. VOCATIONS CHALICE… RETURNING SOON "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” Matthew 9:37 JUSTICE CORNER SEPTEMBER 28 Actions Speak Louder Than Words There is an old saying, “show me your friends, I’ll tell you who you are.” Today’s readings might inspire us to contemplate, “What do my deeds say about who I am?” Actions speak louder than words. Like the second son in the gospel story it is easy for us to say we believe in the values of Catholic social teaching. Living these values is a far greater challenge. As a Catholic you may express concern about ethical values, social structures, social sin, injustice, war and peace, institutions that promote peace and justice, etc. but what are you DOING about it? This week think about the social issues that trouble you. Are there some that concern you more than others? Perhaps you can make a list of actions you can take to improve the situation and begin to take action. Never underestimate the power of your voice, service, compassion, and resources. PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN ESPECIALLY THOSE IN HARM’S WAY Brandon Campbell, Carmelos Brown, Joseph Galeote, Clifford Harris, Austin Harrold, Nicholas Jones, Andrew Mack, Kelli Pope, Lloyd Runser, Matthew Stein, Carlos Vazquez, William Weedman and Curtis Young. We give thanks for the save return of Aileen Marty. Page 4 September 28, 2014 MSGR. BRYAN O. WALSH COLUMBIETTES INVITE YOU TO OUR Third Annual Western Hoedown Night of Fun!
