These devastating statistics only begin to reveal the
impact poverty has on the lives of people throughout
Illinois. But there is hope. As a Gospel response, the
Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has been working to address the root
causes of poverty for over 37 years. In 2007, CCHD funded 21 organizations working in Cook
and Lake counties on issues that include housing, immigrant and worker rights, violence
prevention, education, economic development and a number of others.
