Dear Passengers,
Estimados pasajeros:
H
oy quiero hablarles de la pasión por volar. Seguro que ustedes
recuerdan a un amigo o familiar que fue el responsable de alguna
de sus presentes aficiones. Casi todos los hobbies que me vienen a la
mente: la lectura, la música, el montañismo, la caza o el coleccionismo
en cualquiera de sus múltiples variantes, requieren de un maestro y
cicerone que despierte nuestro interés y nos apadrine en el camino iniciático; un mentor que nos contagie su entusiasmo por la nueva
aventura. Y, aunque en las aficiones hay casi tantas causas –y
causantes– como personas, generalmente existe un denominador
común a todas ellas: la semilla se siembra durante la infancia
y adolescencia. Por eso, yo creo firmemente en el valor de los
“bautismos del aire”.
El pasado día 8 de febrero, diez niños que cursan 6º de primaria en
el colegio San Miguel y Santo Domingo de Mula (Murcia) recibieron
su “bautismo del aire”. El grupo voló en un avión de AIR NOSTRUM
desde Murcia hasta Madrid y visitó las instalaciones del aeropuerto
de Barajas dentro del programa “Aprende Volando”, puesto en
marcha por la Consejería de Obras Públicas y Ordenación del Territorio de la Región de Murcia, en colaboración con nuestra compañía.
Esta travesía fue sólo el comienzo de una acción de mayor calado
gracias a la cual esperamos sembrar la pasión por volar en más de
4.000 niños residentes en la Región de Murcia, al igual que ya
hemos hecho anteriormente con varias decenas de miles de escolares extremeños en colaboración con la Junta de Extremadura.
Es lo que nosotros denominamos “Aula Aérea”, una nueva forma de integrar
una actividad lúdica para ellos, como es volar, con el programa curricular
de viajes educativos que habitualmente se desarrollan tanto en el ámbito
de la enseñanza primaria como secundaria.
¿Recuerdan la emoción de sus primeros viajes de estudios? Pues en
AIR NOSTRUM queremos sumar a esos desplazamientos la experiencia
sensorial de volar a bordo de un avión y, además, poner en valor el viaje en
sí mismo, resaltando sus aspectos más didácticos.
Pocas actividades son más educativas para un escolar que volar en un
avión. El trayecto conjuga lecciones de física, geografía y tecnología,
con el arte, la cultura e historia de los lugares que se visitan en el punto
de destino. Y para reforzar este hecho, las explicaciones que ofrecen los
profesores durante el viaje se acompañan de folletos y materiales que
ilustran tanto el “Teorema de Bernoulli” –que permite la sustentación
de los aviones– como las nociones más básicas acerca de los aeropuertos y el tráfico aéreo, sin olvidar los hitos geográficos que los
alumnos pueden divisar desde sus asientos: ciudades, montañas,
paisajes, etcétera. La idea es, en definitiva, que esa hora de vuelo equivalga a 60 minutos de aprendizaje. Por eso, a esta actividad la hemos
llamado “Aula Aérea”.
Cuando leo las divertidas redacciones que nos remiten los escolares
contándonos su experiencia, y veo sus dibujos plenos de color y
alegría, me llena de orgullo saber que desde AIR NOSTRUM hemos
contribuido a que decenas de miles de jóvenes hayan disfrutado
de un viaje inolvidable… su primer viaje en avión.
I
would, today, like to speak to you about what I would describe as
“passion for flying”. I am sure you all remember a family member or
friend responsible for introducing you to one of your hobbies. Literature,
music, mountaineering, hunting and collecting are some of the things that
come to mind. Normally our interest in something is the result of the
enthusiasm of others who have, in one way or another, provoked enough
curiosity in us to want to embark on some kind of new adventure. As far
as hobbies are concerned, I would say that although there could be all
kinds of reasons for taking up an activity, the common denominator is
usually a seed planted during your childhood or adolescence. It is for this
reason I believe “aerial christenings” are so important.
On 8th February, ten sixth year children from the San Miguel y Santo
Domingo Primary School in Mula, Murcia, received their “aerial christening”.
This small group of children flew for the first time in their lives from Murcia
to the Barajas Airport in Madrid as part of the “Aprende Volando” (Learn by
Flying) Programme created by the Regional Ministry of Public Works and
Territorial Administration of Murcia in collaboration with AIR NOSTRUM.
This trip formed part of a programme designed to plant a “passion for
flying” seed in the hearts of the approximately 4,000 children living in
Murcia; an experience that tens of thousands of schoolchildren from the
Region of Extremadura have already had thanks to the collaboration
between AIR NOSTRUM and the Regional Government of Extremadura.
The “Flying Classroom” is the name we have given this novel way of
combining a recreational activity with the educational field trip children
are normally offered during their primary and secondary education.
Do you remember the excitement of your first school field trip? Well, our
purpose at AIR NOSTRUM is to add to this type of trip the sensorial
experience of flying on an aircraft whilst enriching the experience with
different types of didactic characteristics.
Few activities are as educational for a schoolchild as a flying trip. It
combines physics, geography and technology with art, culture and
history. As a way of reinforcing the child’s studies, the lessons given
during the trip are backed up with all kinds of educational material
providing information that ranges from the “Theorem of Bernoulli” the theory of why aircraft fly - to a variety of basic information on
airports and air traffic. We should also not forget the geographic
information the children are able to collect about cities, mountains,
landscapes etc. from their aircraft seats. The idea is that the hour
long flight be considered the equivalent of a 6o minute classroom
experience. This is why we have called this activity the “Flying
Classroom”
When I read the amusing accounts written by the children of
their experiences and their colourful drawings, I feel proud
that AIR NOSTRUM is providing tens of thousands of children
with an unforgettable experience … their first trip on an
aeroplane.

platos como tosta rota de maganos con vinagreta de trufa, medallones de merluza del

Hablar de Santander en profundidad, de su historia,
de su enclave natural privilegiado, de sus gentes, es una tarea
imposible para una sola persona, también lo sería para unos
cientos de páginas. Cada trozo de su historia, cada acontecimiento,
cada actuación de sus gentes implican un sinnúmero de detalles
imposibles de retener. Mencionar algunos es olvidar otros
no menos importantes, así que puestos a hablar de Santander,
hablemos con "sentido" de una ciudad del siglo XXI, desde
sus perspectivas de naturaleza, cultura y futuro.
Las actuaciones de los habitantes de Santander,
sus esperanzas, sus sueños, su creatividad, han desarrollado

Este barcelonés nacido el 5 de abril de 1978 es un apasionado de la adrenalina y
las emociones extremas, tanto en los parqués de la Bolsa, como en su otra gran
pasión, el deporte de resistencia. Su fórmula de disciplina y estabilidad es invertir
ocho horas para dormir, otras ocho para trabajar y las ocho restantes para sí
mismo. En el terreno deportivo su dedicación le ha llevado a alcanzar un estado
de forma que le permite disputar las competiciones más exigentes del mundo,
como la Marathon des Sables, o el Ultraman de Hawai.
E
res un deportista de pruebas extremas de larga distancia, y lo compaginas siendo broker que es tu otra pasión... ¿cuál sería la carta de presentación de Josef Ajram para el que nunca ha oído hablar de ti?
Soy básicamente un amante total de la vida. Siempre he luchado por lo que he creído y he
logrado sentirme realizado en mi vida. Soy broker de bolsa desde hace 11 años y soy
dueño de mi vida aplicando la regla: 8 horas al día para trabajar, 8 horas para dormir y
8 horas para uno mismo.
¿En qué consisten las pruebas en las que participas?
Son pruebas de mucha resistencia tanto física como mental. Son duras, no lo voy a negar,
pero de una belleza y compañerismo increíbles.
¿Qué competición te ha parecido más dura?
La competición más intensa ha sido el Ultraman de Hawaii, el primer día fueron 10 km
nadando y 145 km en bicicleta, el segundo día 276 km en bicicleta, y tercer día 84 km
corriendo. La competición más "miserable", es la “Marathon des Sables”, donde hay que
correr 250 km por el Sahara en autosuficiencia en 6 días.
¿Qué modalidad deportiva te gusta más y porqué?
La bicicleta sin duda. Siempre digo que tengo dos brazos, dos piernas y una bicicleta, ¡me
encanta!
¿Cuáles son tus próximos retos?
Mi calendario para 2010 es: “Marathon des Sables”, 250 km corriendo por el Sahara en
6 días. Titan desert, 500 km en mountain bike por el Sahara en 6 días. Mongolia Bike
Challenge, 1.400 km en mountain bike en 10 días. Transalpine Gore Tex, 300 km corriendo
por los alpes en 6 días. Jungle Marathon, 200 km corriendo por el Amazonas en 6 días.
¿Cómo logras la fuerza de voluntad, la constancia y el esfuerzo para preparar
y llevar a cabo estas proezas?
Amo el deporte y amo lo que hago. Soy consciente del privilegio que supone esto con lo
que quejarme sería una injusticia increíble.
¿Qué consejos darías a los lectores sobre cómo mejorar su estado físico?
Que incorporen el deporte como parte de su día a día, que lo hagan una necesidad, de
igual manera que comen o duermen. Y por supuesto... ¡cuidado con lo que comemos!
Josef Ajram, born in Barcelona on 5th April, 1978, loves adrenalin and the
extreme emotions that come with it, whether on the parquet of the Barcelona
Stock Exchange or competing in a long distance marathon race. His formula
for success is to work eight hours, play eight hours and sleep eight hours.
He has, thanks to his impressive sporting activities, achieved great sporting
prowess, competing in demanding international extreme sports events such
as the Marathon des Sables or the Hawaii Ultraman World Championship.

ou are an extreme sports athlete and successful stockbroker. How would you
describe yourself to somebody who has never heard of you?
Basically, I am a person who is madly in love with life. I have always fought for what
I believe in and consider myself a happy and fulfilled person. I have worked as a
stockbroker for the past 11 years. I am in charge of my life and my rule is work
eight hours, play eight hours and sleep eight hours.
In what type of events do you usually compete?
I generally compete in sporting events that require a lot of physical and mental
stamina. I must admit that you can suffer a great deal of hardship in these types of
events but, at the same time, there is also great beauty and wonderful comradeship.
Which event has been the hardest?
I would say the most gruelling competition was the Ultraman of Hawaii. The first
day we had to swim 10 km and cycle 145 km, the second day we had to cycle
276 km and the third day we had to run 84 km. On the other hand, the most
‘demanding’ competition is probably the Marathon des Sables, a 6-day, 250 km
marathon through the Sahara Desert.
What is your favourite event and why?
My favourite event is cycling. I always say that I have two arms, two legs and a
bicycle. I love it!
What are your forthcoming sporting challenges?
My sporting calendar for 2010 is: The Marathon des Sables, a 6-day, 250 km
marathon through the Sahara Desert. The Titan Desert Mountain Bike Marathon,
a 6-day, 500 km. mountain bike race through the Sahara Desert. The Mongolia
Bike Challenge, a 10-day, 1,400 km mountain bike race. The Transalpine Gore Tex,
a 6-day, 300 km marathon through the Alps. The Jungle Marathon, a 6-day, 200 km
marathon through the Amazon.
How do you manage to maintain the willpower, perseverance, effort etc. needed
to train and carry out these amazing feats?
I love sport and I love what I do. I am aware of the privilege of being able to practice
this kind of sport. To complain would be senseless.

Que nunca inviertan de manera amateur. La bolsa es uno de los mercados más profesionales que hay, si lo haces por hobby a la larga perderás.
¿Qué lugar te apasiona de todos los que has visitado?
Estar en medio del desierto del Sahara corriendo 80 km tiene un magnetismo imposible de
explicar.
Tu objetivo es sentirte bien contigo mismo, ¿cuál crees que es la clave de la
felicidad?
Vivir cada día al 100%.
¿Qué otras aficiones tienes?
Me encanta estar con mis amigos, reír, bailar, y todo lo relacionado con las cuatro ruedas.

compañía?
La verdad es que destacaría la puntualidad y la simpatía de todo el personal.
What advice would you give our readers for improving their physique?
I would tell them to include sport in their daily life, turn it into a necessity, like eating
or sleeping and, of course, to watch their diet.
What about the Stock Exchange?
I would advise them not to invest as an amateur. The Stock Exchange is one of the
most professional markets that exist. Most people that turn the Stock Exchange into
a hobby end up losing.
Which part of the world has impressed you most so far?
Well, the magic of running 80 km across the Sahara Desert is pretty difficult to
explain.
Your aim is to feel good about yourself, so what, in your opinion, is the key to
happiness?
To live each day to its fullest.
Do you have any other hobbies?
I love hanging out with my friends, laughing, dancing and anything that has to do
with four wheels.

La Feria Internacional de Turismo de la Comunitat Valenciana (TCV), punto de
encuentro de referencia entre los diferentes agentes turísticos nacionales e internacionales, celebró este año una nueva edición con grandes novedades.
E
n esta ocasión, no sólo se adelantó la fecha de celebración del certamen, que tuvo lugar
del 26 al 28 de febrero, sino que llegó cargada de novedades para esta etapa turística.
El día previo al certamen, la Bolsa de Contratación o Workshop puso en contacto, un año
más, a compradores de productos y servicios turísticos con vendedores nacionales, en su
mayoría de la Comunitat Valenciana, a través de una serie de entrevistas previamente
programadas. Tras la satisfacción resultante de las anteriores cinco ediciones, este espacio
de negocio de índole internacional exclusivo para el profesional se ha convertido en cita
ineludible dentro de las actividades de TCV, de hecho, la edición de 2010 tuvo una alta
participación de compradores nacionales y europeos.
COMO NOVEDAD TCV INCORPORÓ UN ESPACIO DE “TURISMO OUTLET”
Este certamen, que se celebró del 26 al 28 de febrero de 2010 en Feria Valencia,
incorporó un nuevo espacio que, bajo el nombre TCV Outlet, concentró y promocionó la
oferta turística de los destinos de la Comunitat Valenciana con las tarifas más atractivas.
A través de este espacio a modo de punto de venta, los visitantes pudieron contratar
paquetes turísticos, escapadas de fin de semana y alojamientos en la costa y en el interior
a precios muy competitivos.

point, included in its 2010 edition a number of important novelties.

his popular tourism trade fair not only took place earlier than in previous years,
from 26th to 28th February, but brought with it an important number of novelties
for the coming tourist season.
The day before the TCV opened it doors, its ‘Bolsa de Contratacion’ or Workshop
introduced, once again, tourist service consumers and national sales representatives,
the majority from the Comunitat Valenciana, thanks a series of previously programmed
meetings. Following the excellent results achieved in the five previous tourism trade
fairs, this international business space, exclusive to professionals, has become a
must within the activities of the TCV. The 2010 International Tourism Trade Fair of
the Comunitat Valenciana attracted, as in previous years, a large number of national
and European participants.
THE TCV INCORPORATES ITS NEW “TOURISM OUTLET”
The International Tourism Trade Fair of the Comunitat Valenciana held from 26th
to 28th February, 2010 in the Valencia Trade Fair Centre introduced a new space, the
TCV Outlet, offering a series of economically priced destinations in the Comunitat
Valenciana.
The TCV Outlet is a sales point designed to provide visitors with the opportunity
of buying competitively priced tourist packages, weekend breaks and accommodation
on both the coast and inland.
THE TCV EXPERIENCE, FOLLOWING ITS PREVIOUS SUCCESS
At the same time, this year’s International Tourism Trade Fair of the Comunitat
Valenciana presented, once again, its TCV Experience, an innovatory space designed

REPITE TCV EXPERIENCE, TRAS EL ÉXITO DE SU PRIMERA EDICIÓN
Por otro lado, TCV 2010 volvió a presentar una oferta de experiencias a través de TCV
Experience, un espacio innovador que posibilita la experimentación e interacción con el
público y que, tras el éxito que supuso en su primera edición en 2010, ha ampliado su
oferta de actividades.
PROMOCIÓN DE LA COMUNITAT VALENCIANA EN FERIAS DURANTE 2010
Para el Consell, resulta esencial la promoción turística de la Comunitat y, por ello,
presentará este año la oferta turística de las tres provincias en ferias turísticas de todo el
mundo.
Así, la Generalitat exportará la imagen de la Comunitat Valenciana para consolidarla
como uno de los principales destinos turísticos y las ferias son el escaparate perfecto para
mostrar toda nuestra oferta y atraer a un mayor número de visitantes.
Este año la Conselleria de Turisme va a incrementar la presencia en ferias participando
en un total de 36 ferias nacionales e internacionales con el objetivo de promocionar la
Comunitat Valenciana.
Durante 2010 la Comunitat promocionará toda la oferta turística en los certámenes turísticos de Holanda, Portugal, Noruega, Finlandia, Irlanda, Suiza, Dinamarca, República
Checa, Bélgica, Francia, Alemania, Italia, Hungría, Rusia, Suecia, Polonia y Reino Unido.
Además, en tres de estas ferias, concretamente en Berlín, Londres y Utrecht, la Comunitat
contará con un stand propio que representará la imagen de la Comunitat Valenciana en el
ámbito internacional.
También la Conselleria de Turisme estará presente en cinco ferias de golf en Suecia,
Alemania, Reino Unido y dos en España, en Valencia y en Madrid.
Respecto al mercado nacional, cabe destacar que nuestro turismo procede, sobre todo,
de la propia Comunitat y de la Comunidad de Madrid como reflejan los datos de 2008 que
muestran que el 55,8% de nuestros turistas eran de la Comunitat y el 17% de Madrid.
En este sentido, la Comunitat participará en ocho ferias nacionales en 2010 como
Turismur, en Murcia; Salón Internacional del Turismo de Cataluña (SITC), en Barcelona;
Expovacaciones, en Bilbao; Agrotur, en Cornellà; Tural.com en Alicante; Intur, en Valladolid;
Fitur, en Madrid y TCV en Valencia.
COMUNITAT VALENCIANA TRADE FAIR ACTIVITIES DURING 2010
The Regional Ministry of Tourism considers the promotion of the Comunitat
Valenciana tourist sector of great importance and, as such, has decided to present
the tourist offer of the Comunitat’s three provinces in a variety of international trade
fairs.

LOS CAMINOS DE LA CRUZ
• Los Caminos de la Cruz conectan los cuatro puntos cardinales
de la Región de Murcia con Caravaca de la Cruz, extendiéndose a lo
largo de trayectos tradicionales como vías pecuarias, vías verdes y
senderos. Adentrarse en estos caminos significa conocer los paisajes
más genuinos de la zona, su historia y sus poblaciones. Por otra
parte, una amplia red de albergues, hospederías rurales y hoteleras
asisten todas las rutas, ofreciendo posibilidades de alojamiento para
todos los gustos. Además, la adhesión de Caravaca a la Ruta de las
Reliquias, ha posibilitado que la capital del Noroeste una sus caminos
a los de la Vía Francígena y el Camino de Santiago, propagando su
influencia por todo el país y por Europa.
LOS CAMINOS DE LA CRUZ
• The Caminos de la Cruz (Ways of the Cross) network connects the
four cardinal points of the Region of Murcia with Caravaca de la
Cruz and refers to a variety of ancient cattle trails, country tracks and
mountain paths. Using these trails, tracks and paths visitors will
have the opportunity for getting to know the local history, scenery,
towns and villages. At the same time, an important network of hostels,
country inns and rural hotels can also be found here offering a wide
variety of first-rate accommodation. Finally, the adhesion of Caravaca
de la Cruz to the ‘Ruta de las Reliquias’ (Relic Route) has permitted
the capital of the northeast to connect its pilgrim routes to those of the
Via Francigena and the Way of St. James, increasing its influence in
a large part of Spain and Europe.

pta para todos, Caravaca de la Cruz es una ciudad especial, magnética, incapaz de dejar
indiferente a nadie. Hasta ella acuden todos los años miles de visitantes, cada uno en
busca de una experiencia distinta. Mucha historia, un inmenso patrimonio monumental,
paisajes que rozan los umbrales de la imaginación y gentes hospitalarias convierten a este
destino en una excusa perfecta para salir y viajar.
Ya en la afueras de la ciudad, y frente a una llanura de almendros, se intuye el carácter
medieval de la villa. En este punto, lo primero que se divisa es una cascada de variopintas
casas que se derrama por la falda de la ladera conformando el casco antiguo de la urbe.
En lo alto, y dominando el entorno, se encuentra el corazón de la ciudad, una basílica
con forma de castillo en la que se custodia el mayor tesoro de estos lugares: la Santísima
Vera Cruz de Caravaca. La joya es un relicario que guarda en su interior un ‘Lignum
Crucis’, es decir, un fragmento del madero en el que fue crucificado Cristo.
En la actualidad, la preciada reliquia guía los pasos del peregrino con la promesa de
que aquí encontrará el Jubileo Perpetuo, la indulgencia y el esplendor propio de una
ciudad que es considerada como uno de los centros de culto más importante para toda la
cristiandad.
Así, aquel que llegue en 2010 a Caravaca tendrá el privilegio de vivir en primera persona
su Año Santo, su misticismo y su encanto. Por añadidura, el visitante podrá disfrutar
a diario de un programa especial de actividades culturales que transforma el perfil de
la ciudad, llenándola de actuaciones, espectáculos y conciertos.
Todo esto en un formidable escenario en el que las iglesias, claustros, capillas y
ermitas, constituyen un atrezo que convive con los yacimientos eneolíticos, argáricos,
íberos y romanos que salen al paso y que en su mayoría también poseen un origen religioso
y ritual.
Uno de estos yacimientos es el poblado fortificado de Los Villares, levantado en su
origen por los íberos para mantener vigilada la ruta comercial que unía el Levante con
Andalucía. La aldea, enclavada sobre una elevación montañosa, conserva aún hoy algunas
partes de la muralla del perímetro, de tres metros de anchura, y numerosos restos de las
casas de la época.
Otro de los atractivos más populares de la localidad es el paraje natural de las Fuentes
del Marqués, donde manantiales de agua cristalina brotan por todas partes, mezclándose
con la abundante vegetación de la zona. Dentro de los límites de la finca, se halla el Torreón
de los Templarios, una plaza fortificada envuelta de antiguas leyendas que en la actualidad
acoge un Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza.
En cuanto al aspecto cultural, el Museo Etnográfico Ángel Reinón representa una de
las paradas más originales. En su interior se extiende un mundo en miniatura hecho a
mano, lija y lima. En este lugar, los tractores y los carros caben en la palma de la mano,
y palabras como alpargatero, herrador o picapedrero devuelven a los oficios su significado
tradicional.
Si se dispone del tiempo suficiente, también es muy aconsejable detenerse en el museo
de Música Étnica de Barranda, donde una colección de instrumentos musicales venidos de
los cinco continentes atesora todos los sonidos del mundo.

uitable for all age groups, Caravaca de la Cruz is a fascinating town that will
leave nobody indifferent. Each year thousands of visitors visit Caravaca de la
Cruz in search of their own personal experience. Its long, rich history, immense
monumental patrimony, captivating landscapes and friendly inhabitants, turn
Caravaca de la Cruz into the perfect excuse for a short break.
It will not take visitors travelling through the beautiful almond groves on the
outskirts of the town long to perceive the medieval character of Caravaca de la Cruz.
A beautiful cascade of ancient houses making up its picturesque ancient quarter
can be seen flowing down the hillside.
On the top of the hill, in the heart of the town, visitors will find the local basilica,
built in the form of a castle and home of the area’s greatest treasure: the Santisima
Vera Cruz of Caravaca (True Cross of Caravaca). We are referring to the crossshaped relic that houses a ‘Lignum Crucis’, or fragment of wood, from the cross
used to crucify Jesus Christ.
This popular relic with its promise of Perpetual Jubilee and Indulgence together
with the splendour of a town, considered one of Christianity’s most important
religious centres, attracts all kinds of pilgrims to this holy town.
This year, visitors to Caravaca de la Cruz will have the privilege of experiencing
for themselves the 2010 Holy Year celebrations, full of mysticism and historical
charm. Caravaca de la Cruz will also be offering a special daily programme of
cultural activities that will transform the town, filling it with all kinds of spectacles,
concerts and theatrical performances.
A formidable scenario in which churches, cloisters, chapels and hermitages
constitute a group of magnificent ancient monuments living side by side with
fascinating Eneolithic, Argaric, Iberian and Roman archaeological sites.
Amongst these archaeological sites, we would mention the fortified settlement
of Los Villares built by the Iberians to protect the commercial route between
Levante and Andalusia. Los Villares, located on a mountainous rise, houses part
of the original settlement’s three meter thick walls as well as the remains of a
number of houses dating back to that ancient period.
Another of the area’s popular tourist sights is, without a doubt, the spot known
as the Fuentes del Marques, home of a variety of crystal clear water falls surrounded
by a wide variety of lush vegetation. Close to here, visitors will find the Torreon de
los Templarios (Knights Templar Tower), a fortified tower enveloped in ancient
legends and present day home of a nature interpretation centre.
From a cultural aspect, the Angel Reinon Ethnographic Museum represents one
of the area’s most original tourist attractions. Its interior offers a world of handmade
miniatures. Here, tractors and carts fit in the palm of a hand and words such as
‘alpargatero’ (hemp sandal maker), ‘herrador’ (blacksmith) and ‘picapedrero’
(stone-cutter) represent some of its traditional handicrafts.
Visitors with some time to spare should not miss a visit to the Barranda Ethnic
Music Museum, home of an impressive collection of musical instruments on show
from all over the world.

The Arnuero Town Hall in Cantabria (Spain) has turned its municipality into a ‘slow’ zone, a place
where visitors can slow down the pace, savour life and enjoy the present moment through the culture
and history of the past, travel in a relaxed way, let themselves be swept away by the tireless rhythm
of the tides of the beautiful Cantabrian Sea.
This magical recreational area, signposted and equipped with a total 20 kilometres of country tracks,
provides the perfect scenario for hikers and cyclists; country tracks not only full of past memories,
but also memories of the past. Visitors will, during a tour of this area, come across a number of nature
interpretation centres where they will more than likely be able to complete the information they
acquired whilst touring the extraordinary cultural and natural landscape of Arnuero.

The Joyel and Ria de Quejo Marsh forms part of the Santoña, Noja and Joyel Marshland Nature
Park. It is situated between the towns of Isla and Soano and makes up a splendid protected nature
area equipped for public use. Here visitors will find a variety of itineraries specially designed for
observing the beautiful marshland flora and fauna.
The “Molino de Santa Olaja, Observatorio de la Marea” (Santa Olaja Tide Mill Observatory) is
situated in the heart of the Joyel Marsh. It looks like a boat that has come to a halt in the middle of
the sea. This ancient tide mill, witness of the area’s forgotten maritime patrimony, has been restored
to house one of the previously-mentioned marshland interpretation centres.

Whilst here, visitors should not miss the opportunity of a trip back to the Middle Ages with a visit to
the “Iglesia de la Asunción, Observatorio del Arte” (Church of the Asuncion, Art Observatory)
where they will find themselves become immersed in the fascinating world of cathedral construction.

In Castillo, the entrance gate to the Trasmiera Ecopark, stands the “Centro de Tradiciones Salvador
Hedilla, Observatorio de la Memoria” (Salvador Hedilla Arts and Crafts Centre, History Observatory).
This fine observatory allows visitors, thanks to Hedilla, an aviation pioneer, to take an imaginary flight

Vio la luz una nevada mañana del pasado diciembre entre León y La Robla,
y comienza su andadura oficialmente a finales de este mes de marzo. Se llama
“El Expreso de La Robla”, el nuevo Tren Turístico de Feve, y ofrece un fascinante
crucero sobre raíles durante cuatro días y tres noches, con múltiples opciones
históricas, culturales, artísticas, paisajísticas y gastronómicas, por tierras asturianas,
gallegas, cántabras, castellano leonesas y vizcaínas.
“El Expreso de La Robla” es un tren de nueve coches con capacidad para
54 viajeros acondicionado íntegramente en los talleres de Feve. Cuenta con salones
de viaje para disfrutar del paisaje desde ellos, restaurante, bar, office, y salón-pub
con grandes pantallas de proyección, así como megafonía interconectada y climatizaciones independientes. El alojamiento se realiza en compartimentos equipados
con dos camas-literas, armario ropero, portamaletas, luz de lectura, climatización,
hilo musical, telefonía, y cuarto de baño completo con ducha de hidromasaje.
Además, para descansar con la mayor comodidad, el tren permanecerá parado en
las estaciones durante toda la noche hasta la salida del día siguiente.
Although “El Expreso de La Robla” first saw the light of day on a snowy
morning in December, 2009, on a run between Leon and La Robla, the new Feve
tourist train will not officially be inaugurated until the end of this month when it
will provide a number of fascinating four-day, three-night ‘cruises on rails’ that
offer passengers multiple historic, cultural, artistic, scenic and gastronomic options
whilst travelling through the Spanish regions of Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria,
Castilla-Leon and the Basque Country.
The “El Expreso de La Robla” was custom built at the Feve workshop and is
made up of nine wagons with sleeping capacity for 54 passengers. It includes
lounge areas for admiring the scenery, a restaurant, a bar, an office and a lounge
pub with large film screens together with a public address system and individual
heating. Each compartment is equipped with two bunk beds, a fitted wardrobe,
luggage racks, reading lamps, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, music, a
telephone and a bathroom with a hydromassage shower. The train will carry out
overnight stops for added comfort.

esta temporada 2010: el Itinerario de La Robla, el Itinerario Jacobeo, y el Itinerario
Taller del Románico. Todos ellos con precios competitivos, y con ofertas especiales
de lanzamiento, que incluyen tres noches de alojamiento a bordo del tren, tres
cenas y tres comidas de gastronomía típica, tres desayunos a bordo del tren con

ITINERARIO TALLER DEL ROMÁNICO
El “Itinerario Taller del Románico” comenzará su andadura el 25 de marzo. Es
una ruta de jueves a domingo que combina el viaje en tren con visitas a los monumentos más emblemáticos del Románico, y con conferencias y cursos a bordo sobre
este estilo artístico de los siglos XI, XII y parte del XIII, que alcanzó en Castilla y
León cotas inigualables al amparo de la ruta de peregrinación jacobea. Puntos
importantes del viaje son: la Iglesia de Santa María del Mercado y la Colegiata de
San Isidoro, en León, y dentro de la provincia leonesa la Iglesia de las Angustias en
Puente Almuhey, y la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Somerada en San Adrián de
Boñar; en tierras de Palencia, la Iglesia de Santa Marina (Villanueva de la Torre), el
Monasterio de Santa María la Real (Aguilar de Campoo), y la Iglesia de Nuestra
Señora de la Asunción en Pisón de Castrejón; y en la provincia de Burgos, la Iglesia
de San Lorenzo de Vallejo de Mena, la Iglesia de Santa María en Siones, la Iglesia de
San Juan Bautista de Vivanco de Mena, y la Iglesia de San Vicente en San Vicente
de Villamesán.
Initially, the “El Expreso de La Robla” will be offering three different tourist
routes: the “Itinerario de La Robla (La Robla Route), the “Itinerario Jacobeo”
(Jacobean Route) and the “Itinerario Taller del Romanico” (the Romanesque
Workshop Route). Its competitive prices will include a variety of special launch
offers that will include three nights aboard the train, three traditional lunches and
dinners, three buffet breakfasts, programmed all inclusive excursions, daily press
and magazines, a multilingual guidebook, vigilance and a number of excursions
in a modern bus that will accompany the train during the journey.
ITINERARIO TALLER DEL ROMANICO
The “Itinerario Taller del Romanico” comes into service on 25th March, 2010. It
will run from Thursday to Sunday and includes visits to some of the area’s most
emblematic Romanesque monuments along with on-board conferences and
courses on this style of architecture dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries
and part of the 13th century, a style that became very popular in Castilla y Leon
following the foundation of the Way of St. James pilgrim route. Some of the most
important points on this route are: the Church of Santa María del Mercado and
the Collegiate Church of San Isidoro in Leon and the Church of Angustias in
Puente Almuhey and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Somerada in San Adrian
de Boñar in the province of Leon; the Church of Santa Marina (Villanueva de la
Torre), the Monastery of Santa María la Real (Aguilar de Campoo) and the Church
of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Pison de Castrejón in the province of Palencia.
Finally, we would mention the Church of San Lorenzo de Vallejo de Mena, the
Church of Santa María in Siones, the Church of San Juan Bautista de Vivanco de
Mena and the Church of San Vicente in San Vicente de Villamesan in the province
of Burgos.
ITINERARIO DE LA ROBLA
El 1 de abril tendrá lugar el primero de los viajes del Itinerario de La Robla, que
estará funcionando hasta el 25 de noviembre. Se trata también de un viaje de
jueves a domingo que recorrerá las provincias de León, Palencia y Burgos, además
de una sugestiva incursión en tierras vizcaínas.
En esta ruta, “El Expreso de La Robla” parte de Bilbao y tiene como primera
visita el complejo Cárstico Ojo Güareña en Sotoscueva (Burgos), catalogado como
uno de los más grandes y más impresionantes del mundo. La segunda etapa de
este Itinerario se desarrolla íntegramente en tierras leonesas, visitando Cistierna,
el Museo de la Minería y la Siderurgia de Sabero, Boñar, el Museo de la Fauna
Salvaje, el Pantano del Porma, Valdehuesa, y ¡León! con su Catedral, su Basílica
de San Lorenzo, su Casco Histórico, o el Convento de San Marcos. La tercera
jornada de esta ruta tiene el aliciente de iniciarse a la par que el tren bordea la
ribera del Torío hasta llegar a Matallana donde empezará a gestarse una nueva
explosión sensorial: la visita al paraíso paisajístico de las Hoces de Vegacervera, y al
mágico compendio de estalactitas y estalagmitas de las Cuevas de Valporquero.
La recta final de esta ruta comprende Aguilar de Campoo, Espinosa de los
Monteros, Medina de Pomar, Balmaseda, y Galdames que alberga en La Torre de
Loizaga la espectacular y reconocida internacionalmente exposición de Rolls Royce.
ITINERARIO JACOBEO
“El Expreso de La Robla” ofrece una más que interesante alternativa en este
Año Santo Compostelano: realizar la peregrinación sobre raíles. Este itinerario
Gijón-Santiago de Compostela-Gijón echa a andar el 24 de junio y estará operativo
hasta mediados de septiembre.
El viaje, de jueves a domingo, tiene como principal objetivo y escenario la capital
gallega, pero ofrece antes y después de llegar a ella un inolvidable recorrido por
algunos de los más bonitos parajes y paisajes de la geografía galaico-asturiana.
La ruta comienza en la capital gijonesa y el primer destino es Ribadeo, donde
se cena en su parador. La siguiente etapa es la preciosa ciudad amurallada de
Viveiro. Tras asomarse a los impresionantes acantilados del Cabo Ortegal, toca
cumplimentar la tradición en el Santuario de San Andrés de Teixido, donde “quien
no va de vivo va de muerto”. Esta segunda etapa concluye en Ortigueira donde
se cena. Al día siguiente se llega como peregrinos a Santiago de Compostela,
ciudad que, como no podría ser de otra forma, se recorre a fondo. Después se
visita A Coruña y se emprende rumbo a Ferrol, donde se pernocta. La última etapa
del viaje comprende Foz y sus escalofriantes cortados al mar, Mondoñedo con su
peculiar Catedral-Seminario y las envidiadas playas de la Marina Lucense desde las
que se emprende rumbo de Gijón.

ITINERARIO DE LA ROBLA
The first “Itinerario de La Robla” journey will take place on 1st April, 2010 and
will be available until 25th November, 2010. This tourist route will offer journeys
from Thursday to Sunday across the provinces of Leon, Palencia and Burgos with
a small incursion into the Basque Country.
On this occasion, the “El Expreso de La Robla” will set off from Bilbao. The
first stop on this route will be at the Carstico Ojo Guareña Site in Sotoscueva
(Burgos), catalogued as one of the largest and most impressive karst areas in the
world. The second part of the itinerary takes place entirely in the province of Leon
with visits to Cistierna, the Mining and Steel and Industry Museum, Boñar, the Wild
Animal Museum, el Porma Reservoir, Valdehuesa and the city of Leon with its
famous Cathedral, the Basílica of San Lorenzo, the Old Town and the Convent of
San Marcos. The third part comprises a journey along the Torio riverside to
Matallana where passengers will be treated to another sensorial blast when visiting
the scenic paradise of the Hoces de Vegacervera Nature Reserve and the magical
compendium of stalactites and stalagmites found in the Valporquero caves. The
final part of the journey will take passengers through Aguilar de Campoo, Espinosa
de los Monteros, Medina de Pomar, Balmaseda and Galdames where they will find
the “La Torre de Loizaga”, home of a spectacular and internationally famous Rolls
Royce Exhibition.
ITINERARIO JACOBEO
The “El Expreso de La Robla” offers an interesting alternative for pilgrims
travelling to Santiago de Compostela for this year’s Holy Year celebrations. Its
“Itinerario Jacobeo” offers a return trip from Gijon to Santiago de Compostela
beginning on 24th June. This interesting tourist route will be available until the
middle of September.
The main object of this Thursday to Sunday journey is to visit the capital of
Galicia, Santiago de Compostela whilst offering an unforgettable journey through
some of Galicia and Asturias’ most beautiful scenery and landscapes.
The route begins in Gijon travelling to Ribadeo where passengers will dine in
the beautiful Ribadeo Parador Hotel. The next stop is the beautiful walled city of
Viveiro. After a view of the spectacular cliffs of Cabo Ortegal, passengers will be
invited to visit the Sanctuary of San Andres de Teixido where it is said that “quien
no va de vivo va de muerto” (those who do not visit when alive, will visit when
dead). This second part of the journey concludes in Ortigueira where dinner will
be served. Passengers will arrive at Santiago de Compostela the following day
where they will be invited to make an extensive tour of the city. The next stop on
the journey is A Coruña and Ferrol where passengers will spend the night. The
final stage of this Holy Year journey includes a visit to Foz with its breathtaking sea
cliffs, Mondoñedo with its peculiar Cathedral-Seminary and the marvellous Marina
Lucense beaches before returning to Gijon.

A orillas del Golfo de Salerno, donde los sueños se pintan de azul y se dejan
perfumar por la brisa tirrena, encontramos Amalfi, una tranquila ciudad de la
región de Campania, al sur de Italia. Rodeada de acantilados y ubicada al filo del
Monte Cerreto, la costa Amalfitana, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la

On the shore of the Gulf of Salerno, where dreams are painted blue and bear
the scent of the Tyrrhenian breeze, we find Amalfi, a quiet city in the region
of Campania, in Southern Italy. Surrounded by cliffs and sited just below
Monte Cerreto, the coast of Amalfi, which has been declared a World
Heritage Site by Unesco, also has a privileged place of refuge, the NH Grand

the original cloister has managed to be conserved with its columns, the chapel
has been rediscovered, adorned as it is with beautiful wooden sculptures and an
impressive organ dating from 1700. The frescos on the ceilings and walls of the
painted rooms on the fifth floor, many of which date from 1800, have also been
able to be recovered.

OTROS CAMINOS PARA LLEGAR A SANTIAGO
Internarse por las sendas de un Camino de Santiago que no sea el tradicional
francés siempre crea dudas al peregrino. Sin embargo, este año Asturias, más
que nunca, nos invita a huir de la masificación y descubrir una alternativa histórica: El Camino Primitivo.
El Camino Primitivo es el punto idóneo de partida para descubrir la senda del
primer Camino conocido, la que tomó Alfonso II el Casto, en el siglo IX para
visitar la recién descubierta tumba del Apóstol Santiago. Su sucesor, Alfonso III,
peregrinará varias veces a la tumba del Apóstol y efectuará numerosas donaciones, para mejorar la Basílica. Pudiendo decir, por tanto, que fue entonces
cuando se definió y se consolidó el primer Camino Jacobeo.
El itinerario actual reproduce fielmente al original, partiendo desde Oviedo, y
atravesando Asturias, transcurre por los concejos de: Las Regueras, Grado, Salas,
Tineo, Allande y Grandas de Salime.
Se han invertido muchos recursos en los últimos años, no sólo para acondicionar y poner en valor esta ruta como reclamo turístico sino como una forma
de rescatar y prestigiar su valor histórico. Una alternativa que nos regala el
disfrute de un paisaje único, en el que abunda el verde, donde se respira historia
y donde la hospitalidad y afabilidad de su paisanaje no nos dejará indiferente.
Un viaje inolvidable del que, a buen seguro, disfrutarán los peregrinos que opten
por esta ruta.
ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO SANTIAGO
Any route on the Way of St. James not forming part of the traditional
French Route can sometimes create doubt in the minds of pilgrims. In
spite of this, Asturias, this year more than ever, suggests that visitors
avoid the more crowded pilgrim routes and try the Primitive Way.
The Primitive Way is an ideal departure point for pilgrims interested
in discovering what is considered the first known pilgrim route, the route
used by King Alfonso II el Casto during the 9th century to visit the then
recently discovered tomb of the Apostle James. His successor, King
Alfonso III, not only continued visiting the tomb of St. James, but also
made numerous donations for the improvement of the basilica. It could
be said that it was during this period that the Way of St. James was
defined and later consolidated.
The present-day itinerary is a faithful reproduction of the original one,
departing from Oviedo and making its way across Asturias through the
municipalities of Las Regueras, Grado, Salas, Tineo, Allande y Grandas de
Salime.
A large amount of resources have been invested over the past few years
in the restoration of The Primitive Way, not only to increase its value as a
tourist attraction, but also to recover its historical prestige. The Primitive
Way is a magnificent pilgrim route offering travellers a unique landscape,
full of spectacular greenery, a journey into the past which, together with
the friendliness of the local inhabitants, will leave nobody indifferent, an
unforgettable experience that we are sure will not disappoint pilgrims.

exhibition on show in the
Altamira National Museum,
comparable to a museum team
notebook fixed on the wall, offers
part of the cultural and scientific
investigation carried out by a
team of museum investigators
in collaboration with the Pai
Tavytera, an indigenous tribe
located in Paraguay.
