Juan Martinez-Barea is an experienced entrepreneur in business, education, non-profit and
government. After working in world-class companies like McKinsey and Abengoa, Juan
launched in 1998 Creara, a high-tech venture accelerator, and 50K, the first high-tech
entrepreneurship competition in the South of Europe, in collaboration with the MIT
Entrepreneurship Center. Juan has worked with more than 1.000 start-ups, has advised
and coached hundreds of entrepreneurs and has participated in the launching of more than
100 high-tech new ventures. Following his work in entrepreneurship he later launched a
non-profit foundation to identify, educate and inspire young leaders and entrepreneurs. He
is also a professor in the Spanish Business School Instituto Internacional San Telmo, where
he leads the Innovation and Entrepreneurship practice. He invested two years in public
service as Secretary-General for Innovation in the Government of Andalusia (Spain).
Juan is an active member of the Board of several innovative and technological companies
(Artificial Intelligence, Information Technologies, Telecommunications), and is currently
launching a Bioinformatics start-up focused on developing and commercializing a universal
test for cancer early detection, aimed to saving millions of lives.
Juan holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), a Master in
Economics from Ecole Centrale Paris (France), and a MS and a BS in Industrial Engineering
from Escuela de Ingenieros de Sevilla (Spain). Juan has recently been appointed
Ambassador in Spain for NASA-Singularity University, where he graduated in Exponential
Technologies.
