Jesus sends each one of us out on mission to spread our faith with joy. As Catholics, why is it that we often shy away from evangelization? Why do we miss out on opportunities we already have to evangelize, and how do we look for new opportunities? In this three-part series, Fr. Joe will put evangelization in the modern religious context, while providing some basic training and practical initiatives to spread the good news of our Catholic faith. Remember to Register for 2016-17 Faith Formation Now’s the time! Register online or use paper forms located around the building or download from the website. We are excited about some changes for next year. Parents and older teens: join our wonderful group of catechists who share the faith. Please contact Katie Gebhard at 763-7127439 or [email protected] with any questions. www.ststephenchurch.org/faithformation 4 School All Kinds of Saints Mrs. Mary Kay Tymiski, First Grade Teacher In our Religion class, we have been learning about Saints and how they show their love. We have been reading about St. Martin and how he shared his coat with a homeless person, St. Kateri, who told Native American children about God, St. Philip, who liked to laugh and make others laugh, and of course, the greatest Saint of all... Mary. She was the Mother of Jesus and took care of him. We also talked about how we can become saints. We need to treat everyone with kindness, pray every day, think about other people, and love others as Jesus did. We also made halos as a reminder that we can also become saints! Faith: As a vital part of the parish community, we educate students in a Catholic atmosphere enriched by the Gospel messages of peace and justice. The spiritual development of students is the primary goal. The school recognizes that a person's faith is formed by living out that faith in community through prayer, worship, service and study; and grounded in our Catholic tradition. Academics: In partnership with their family, each student is encouraged and directed to reach his or her potential. Our academic program emphasizes mastery of the basics, academic excellence, and a variety of extracurricular activities. The school prepares students to be fully equipped for their next level of academic achievement. Community: The school seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and challenged to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically. www.ststephenschool.org 5 Pastoral Care Reflection on John 14:23-29 Sister Mary Anne Schaenzer Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him… The Father, Son and Holy Spirit will come to us and make their dwelling with us. [How can we be troubled or afraid?] And the Advocate, the Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. [How can we be troubled or afraid?] But when we are troubled and afraid Let us also hear these words of Jesus: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.” Let us wish this deep peace to and for one another. Stewardship Reflection “…do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 Our limited human understanding cannot begin to understand the immense power of God. Instead of trusting in God, we think we can control every outcome. Do you want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. The next time worry, anxiety or fear creeps in, thank God for all He has given you and trust He has a better plan for you. ¿Quieres hacer reír a Dios?
