GOD IS IN CHARGE
―Who do you think you are?!‖ today’s
readings demand. We are brought up short,
put in our place, given a dose of reality.
Who is God? Who is in charge? Who is the
greatest?
We begin with a passage from the
prophet Malachi, one of the latest prophets, who wrote
after the Jews returned from Babylon. Calling the people
to task in God’s name, he condemns the divisions and
false teachings that have arisen, reminding them that all
were created by the one God. Paul tells the Thessalonians the same thing, but in a positive way—praising
them for remembering that it is God who is at work
within them.
Finally, the Gospel presents Jesus speaking out
against hypocrisy and vainglory. ―You have but one
teacher . . . you have but one Father‖ (Matthew 23:8,
9). We are firmly put in our place. God is in charge.
DIOS ESTÁ A CARGO
―¡¿Quién te crees que eres?!‖, demandan
las lecturas de hoy. Nos ponen de cortito, en
nuestro lugar, con una dosis de realidad.
¿Quién es Dios? ¿Quién está a cargo? ¿Quién
es el máximo?
Comenzamos con el pasaje del profeta
Malaquías, uno de los profetas tardíos, quien escribió
después que los judíos retornaron de Babilonia. Amonestando al pueblo en el nombre de Dios, condena las
divisiones y falsas enseñanzas que han surgido, recordándoles que todos fueron creados por el único Dios.

Finalmente, el Evangelio presenta a Jesús hablando

All Souls Celebrations - November 2nd
Masses & Novena
Tuesday, November 1st
Our parish will have an All Souls Novena at 9 consecutive Masses (at
the 8:00 AM Daily Mass Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday,
the 5:00 PM Saturday Anticipated Mass of Sunday and the 8:00 AM
10:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM Masses on Sunday, November 6th).
You may enroll deceased loved ones in the Novena by using the Novena envelope (available in the mailed packets or on the table in the
vestibule) to list their names and include your donation. Envelopes
need to be turned in by the 8:00 AM Mass on Wednesday, November
2nd.
In addition, on Wednesday, November 2nd, there will be diocesan
celebrations of Memorial Masses at the two Catholic Cemeteries here in
Tucson.

Day of the Dead Altar
In the Latino culture, All Souls Day is observed as The Day
of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). In their homes, family
members honor their deceased with offerings (ofrendas)
placed upon a small altar (altarcita).
Our parish will include this ―home‖ tradition in our November environment. Parishioners are invited to bring pictures
and symbols representing their deceased loved ones and
place them on the altarcita in the front of the church.

En la cultura Mexicana se celebra el Día de Todos los Santos
como Día de los muertos. En las casas de sus familiares se
les preparan ofrendas que se colocan en un pequeño altar, o
altarcito.
Nuestra parroquia incorporará esta tradición familiar en el
mes de noviembre. Si desean pueden traer fotos y símbolos
que representen a seres queridos que han fallecido. De esta
manera los podremos colocar en el altarcito situado en la
parte del frente de la iglesia.

Carmelite Missions Collection November 5-6
Next weekend, we will take up our annual collection in
support of the Carmelites’ missions. Fr. Bill Harry,
O.Carm. (Commissary / Regional Provincial for the
West) will be the guest homilist for this collection. Donations to this collection are used by the Carmelite’s
Mission Office to support missionary efforts throughout
the world sponsored by both men’s and women’s communities of the Carmelite Order.

Wednesday, November 16th, we will be working on the
Christmas Giving Tree.
Jr High Youth Group students are asked to please attend the
Wednesday, November 2nd meeting at 7:00 PM with the High
School Youth Group. This meeting will be held in Dougherty.

Thank you to those parishioners who continue to fulfill their
pledge to the Diocesan Capital Campaign. To date 58% of the
amount pledged by our parishioners has been paid. (For the
diocese at large, 67% of pledges have been paid.) Since for our
parish, we are just over the half way mark of the payment period of 5 years, we are ―on target‖ to reach our pledged goal of
$819,200.
To date we have received back from our payments $92,504.
These funds are being used to pay for a major portion of the
renovations in our church (new bathrooms, a Reconciliation
Chapel, and an enhanced side entryway).
Merilac Lodge Auxiliary—Annual Card Party
On Thursday, November 10th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
the annual luncheon and card party to benefit Merilac

Looking to contact
In cooperation with law enforcement, the Diocese of
Tucson urges anyone who has knowledge of the location of Juan Guillen, a former priest who was assigned
to Immaculate Conception Parish in Yuma and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Somerton from 1982
to 2002, to call 9-1-1 immediately to make a report.
According to law enforcement, Guillen, who was
released from prison early in October, has failed to
meet the conditions of his probation. Guillen, who was removed
from the priesthood in 2005, pleaded guilty to child abuse related charges in 2003.
The Diocese of Tucson urges anyone who has experienced
abuse by a priest, deacon, sister, brother, employee or volunteer for the Roman Catholic Church or for the Diocese of Tucson – no matter when or where the abuse happened – to report the abuse immediately to law enforcement and to call the
Victim Assistance Program of the Diocese of Tucson at 1-800234-0344 in Arizona and the Office of Child, Adolescent and
Adult Protection of the Diocese of Tucson at 520-792-3410.
