This coming first Friday’s Eucharist
devotion following daily Mass on August 5 th will
be offered for persecuted Christians across the
world – especially those under threat of death
for their faith – and for all those who have been
recently martyred for the faith. The sufferings
of our brothers and sisters in the faith for the
sake of the name of Jesus should never be far
from our prayers. The attack this week in
France and the martyrdom of Fr. Jacques
Hamel and countless others that have died for
the faith in recent memory should remind us all
of the threat that some Christians live under for
their faith in Christ. Let us lift them up to the
Lord each day as witness to the power of their
conviction in the holy Gospels.

Thank you to the wonderful community of St. Paul's!! Thank you for your love and prayers, and for the
generosity of all those who have supported the fundraising efforts for Steubenville!! We raised what was needed
to send our group of 20 teens and 5 adult chaperones to Spokane, and look forward to sharing with you how God
was working in each of our hearts upon our return.

If you work with minors four times or more in any parish capacity, you are required to undergo a
background check and receive training in the Called to Protect program, provided annually through the
Parish Office.
In addition to the prescribed training, an on-line course must be completed each year. The course for
this year is: Social Media Safety: Protecting the Youth in Your Care.

It’s that time of year again! Please take a look at the Oktoberfest shifts on the table in the vestibule and
circle “yes” or “no” to let us know if you will be helping this year. If you are new to St. Paul parish and would
like to volunteer, find a shift that will work for you and write in your name. This is a great community service

Queridos amigos en Cristo,
Este próximo primer viernes 5 de Agosto se ofrecerá la Eucaristía por todos los Cristianos
perseguidos en todo el mundo, especialmente los que están amenazados de muerte por su FE y
por todos los que han sido recientemente MARTIRES DE LA FE. Los sufrimientos de nuestros
hermanos en la Fe en el nombre de Cristo nunca deben estar lejos de nuestras oraciones. El
ataque que hubo en esta semana en FRANCIA y el MARTIRIO del Padre Jacques Hamel y muchos
otros que han muerto por la Fe en la historia reciente de Estados Unidos nos debe recordar a
todos, la amenaza que algunos cristianos viven por su Fe en Cristo. Vamos a elevarlos al Señor
cada día como testimonio de la fuerza de su convicción en los Santos Evangelios.
RECORDATORIO
La próxima semana después de la Santa Misa habrá una presentación sobre el estado de la
Parroquia será para todos. Esto es muy importante para que todos asistan.
Les invito que nos mantengamos unidos en la Oración y continuemos CONSTRUYENDO los unos a
los otros con BUENAS PALABRAS Y BUENAS OBRAS.

REFLEXION
Este Evangelio es engañador para quien lo lee superficialmente: ¿es malo tener grandes cosechas? ¿Es malo construir graneros
donde guardarlas? Nada de eso. Cristo elogiará siempre a los hombres sagaces y prudentes.
El problema está en el alma. El desdichado protagonista de la parábola invita al alma a descansar, a dejar todo esfuerzo porque
tiene todo lo suficiente para vivir. Cristo está refiriéndose en estas líneas a la eterna tentación de todo pueblo y toda persona que
alcanza cierto nivel de bienestar: creer que ya no necesita de Dios por tener cubiertas las necesidades corporales.
Cuando el hombre tiene pan, placeres, seguridad social y pasatiempos apetecibles, no siente la necesidad de Dios y tampoco cree
que el demonio actúe, pues a él no le toca. Pero también los hay que gozan de su avanzada sociedad occidental, que tienen su casa, su
coche, su salario que les permite vivir holgadamente, pero eso sí, no olvidan que el alma necesita trabajar y hacer obras buenas, y
además, comparten lo que tienen poniéndolo al servicio del Evangelio y de sus hermanos. Por buenos que ya seamos, por muchas
conquistas que hayamos logrado con nuestras oraciones, sufrimiento y esfuerzos no es suficiente si seguimos en la tierra y no
estamos exentos de sucumbir a la tentación.
La vida es el periodo de tiempo, corto, que tenemos para decidir nuestra eternidad, y para amar. Cada día mueren millones de
personas, un día será el tuyo y el mío. Un día todo esto habrá acabado y tenemos en nuestras manos que ese día sea el mejor de
nuestra vida. Hemos de trabajar sin descanso, pensando en el día que todo será descanso. Puede que la idea del cielo no nos incentive
demasiado, que prefiramos un premio terrenal, que creamos que el cielo es una levitación aburrida..., no desconfiemos, cuentan de
aquel pobre vagabundo que pidió a un rey una moneda y éste le miró con cariño y le lavó, le vistió con las mejores galas y lo llevó a
palacio. No nos quedemos con la moneda de la felicidad terrenal, confiemos en nuestro Rey que mirándonos con amor nos dará muy
por encima de lo que pidamos e imaginemos. Todo lo que deseamos y mucho más está en el cielo, pues ¡vamos a llenarlo!, vamos a
dedicar nuestra vida a hacer felices a los hombres, a llevarlos al cielo.
LIBRO DEL ECLESIASTÉS: 1, 2; 2, 21 –23 Vaciedad sin sentido, dice el predicador, vaciedad sin sentido, todo es
vaciedad. Es un "libro de Sabiduría" de sentido escasamente religioso. Su idea básica es una profunda desilusión sobre la
vida. El resumen del libro es, en su traducción clásica: "vanidad de vanidades y todo vanidad.
SAN PABLO A LOS COLOSENSES: 3, 1-5. 9 - 11 “Despojaos de la vieja condición humana Pablo no quiere decir que lo
humano sea malo, opuesto a lo divino, sino que llama aquí "humano" a lo que no es de Dios, a lo que deforma lo humano y
lo empobrece, como ha desarrollado en las líneas anteriores. Por eso sigue diciendo: y revestíos de la nueva condición,
que se va renovando, como imagen de su creador, hasta llegar a conocerlo. A nosotros no nos gusta la expresión
"revestirse", porque parece algo así como ponerse un vestido sin cambiar el interior. Igualmente se utiliza la expresión
para hablar de Jesús "revestido de humanidad": nos parece como si se tratara de un disfraz. No es esa la intención de
Pablo, aunque sí es verdad que en nuestra manera de entender nos resulta una expresión desafortunada.
.SAN LUCAS: 12, 13 – 21 Jesús, en la parábola, nos recuerda que no debemos ser necios, egoístas; sino debemos ser
capaces de compartir, disfrutar con los demás todo lo que tenemos, por qué ¿de qué nos servirá toda la riqueza al final de
nuestra vida.
Nos pasamos nuestra vida queriendo ahorrar, atesorar y no pensamos que el mejor tesoro que tenemos es ser hijos de
Dios.
