P
entecost marks the end of the Easter season. This is the one
feast of the Church’s year when we focus on the third person
of the Trinity, God the Holy Spirit. This is a good day to recall what Jesus
said about himself, quoting the prophet Isaiah (61:1):
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has
anointed me; he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly,
to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives
and release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord
and a day of vindication by our God.
The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus at his baptism. This same
Spirit, who also came upon the disciples at Pentecost, the birthday of the church, is the Spirit who
hovered over the waters of our baptism, as we were anointed with the holy oil of salvation. The
Spirit came upon us with renewed strength in confirmation, as we were anointed as followers of
Christ. It is the Holy Spirit who calls us anew to the challenges of each day, inspiring and
strengthening us to live as disciples and friends of Jesus. That does not mean the path is made easy,
or that we will always be understood, accepted, and successful. It does mean that if we trust the
Spirit and its promptings deep within us, we will always speak and act with faith and truth. It is not
up to us to worry about whether people receive what we offer. Our words or deeds may be just one
small seed sown in someone’s soul; our job is to sow it and to entrust to the Holy Spirit the nurturing
and nourishing of that seed. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon us, so share the glad tidings!

McGowan Hall needs a nice long list
of people who would be willing to
do set up and tear-down work for
various parish events. Four people
can set up the entire hall in under an
hour, and nobody has to work really
hard! Most events require less time
than that. It’s light physical work,
being on the tall side helps but isn’t
essential, and the kind of people that
volunteer for this work are invariably
friendly and pleasant to work with.
Here’s how it works: A general
email goes to everyone on the list,
giving day and time of needed task.
The first 3 or 4 to respond take the
assignment. Our chairs and tables
are light and easy to handle. The
facility is a pleasure to work with.
Ideal for older high schoolers, young
adults, men and women. Service
hours apply for those who need

“Jesus got into one
of the boats, the one
belonging to Simon,
and asked him to
pull out a short
distance from
the shore…
When he had
finished speaking,
he said to Simon,
‘Put out into deep
water and lower your
nets for a catch.”
(Luke 5:3-4)
W
ho did Jesus think he was? Simon was the
professional fisherman. His boat was his prized possession, and the source of his income and stability.
He had been fishing all night and had caught nothing. Who was this stranger who came up and walked
onto his boat, and ordered him to lower his nets?
Yet Simon did exactly what he
was told—and caught so many
fish that the nets almost broke.
Clearly there was something overwhelmingly powerful about Jesus,
especially at people’s first experience with him. Jesus had the ability to walk into people’s lives in
the most intimate way possible—
into their spirit.
This week our Faith Forum shared another chapter of the
“Catholicism” series entitled “The Communion of Saints.” Fr. Barron
introduced this chapter by referring to the call of Simon in Luke’s Gospel.
The expression that Fr. Barron used was that Simon experienced “an invasion of grace.” He went on to develop that theme with the four saints
whose lives manifested a fundamental change in direction because Jesus
had invaded their lives. Invasions are not welcomed events, whether anticipated or not. Nazi Europe knew that the Allies would invade, and
made every attempt to prevent its success but could not. Simon had no
clue that grace would invade his life, but grace did—Jesus did. After, not
only was Simon’s life radically changed, but so was the course of world
events.
The invasion of grace continues today. Through the sacraments,
Jesus continues to direct our lives just as he did for Simon. Whether surprised or prayed for, may we welcome the Holy Spirit of Jesus into our
lives with the infinite abundance of his grace.

VBS is coming soon – June 25 – 29. It takes lots of volunteers to put VBS together – Jr Hi, High Schoolers, and adults of every age and description. Get
service hours! Have fun! Learn something! If you’re willing to help with

at church? This year, VBS is right here at OLF – in our new parish hall and

Faith Formation for Children program (FFC)
Our excellent FFC program is designed for our parish children who attend public or a non-Catholic private school. Classes for first through fifth grades meet
every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:45 pm. Sixth graders meet on Wednesday
evenings from 6 to 7 pm.
Register in the parish office Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm
and on Wednesdays from 1 pm to 8 pm either in the parish office or in the FFC
office adjacent to the school classrooms. Registration will also be accepted on
Sunday mornings during May and early June after the 9 am,11 am and 1:00 pm
Masses. You may also register and pay online at www.olfchurch.net

For returning families – registration fee plus up to date contact information
For new families – registration fee plus a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate. If you are not currently registered as a parishioner, you will be asked to
complete a parish registration form.

Para bautizar la familia tiene que estar
registrada en la parroquia. Si no lo está,
tiene que registrarse inmediatamente,
familias no registradas y que no viven
en la área de San Clemente tendrán que
registrarse y esperar 6 meses para obtener la fecha de bautismo.
Si desean bautizar y ya están registrados, para pedir una fecha
tiene que venir a la Oficina Parroquial, por lo menos con un mes
de anticipación. El cupo para este Sacramento es limitado, por
favor comuníquense a tiempo.

“Jesús subió a una de
las barcas, que era de
Simón, y le pidió que
se apartara un poco
de la orilla; después se
sentó, y enseñaba a la
multitud desde la
barca. Cuando
terminó de hablar,
dijo a Simón:
«Navega mar
adentro, y echen
las redes»”
(Lucas 5,3-4)
Q uién pensaba que era Jesús? Simón era un pescador profesional. Su barco era su preciada posesión
y la fuente de sus ingresos y estabilidad. Había ido a
pescar durante toda la noche y no había capturado
nada. Quien era este extraño que surgió y caminó
hacia su barco y le ordenó echar sus redes. Pero
Simón hizo exactamente lo que le dijo — y atrapo
muchos peces que casi se rompieron las redes. Claramente era abrumador el poder de Jesús, especialmente en la primera experiencia
que tuvo la gente con él. Jesús
tenía la capacidad de caminar en
la vida de la gente de la manera
más íntima posible; en su espíritu.
Esta semana en nuestro Foro de Fe se compartió otro capítulo de la serie "Catolicismo" titulado "La
Comunión de los Santos". El Padre Barrón introdujo este capítulo haciendo referencia a la llamada de Simón en el Evangelio de Lucas. La expresión
que utiliza el Padre Barrón fue que Simón experimentó "una invasión de la
gracia". Pasó a desarrollar ese tema con los cuatro santos cuyas vidas manifiestan un cambio fundamental en dirección porque Jesús había invadido
sus vidas. Las invasiones no son eventos bien recibidos, ni son previstos o
no. La Europa nazi sabía que los aliados los invadirían y hacen todo lo posible para impedir su éxito pero no pudieron. Simón no tenía ninguna pista
de la gracia que invadiría su vida, pero la gracia lo hizo, Jesús lo hizo. Después, no sólo fue la vida de Simón que cambio radicalmente, sino fue todo
el curso de los acontecimientos mundiales.
La invasión de gracia continúa hoy a través de los Sacramentos,
Jesús continúa dirigiendo nuestras vidas, igual que lo hizo para Simón. Si
somos sorprendidos u oramos por ello, demos la bienvenida al Espíritu
Santo de Jesús en nuestras vidas con la abundancia infinita de su gracia.

Estamos aceptando inscripciones tempranas para nuestro programa de Formación de fe
para niños curso 2012-2013
Nuestro programa de Formación de fe para niños es para los niños que asisten a escuelas públicas o no católicas. Las
clases se llevan a cabo el día miércoles en los salones de la escuela parroquial. El programa en Ingles es de 3:30 a 4:45
p.m. de primer grado hasta el quinto grado escolar. El programa en español es de 6:00 a 7:30 p.m. de Primer grado hasta
el octavo grado escolar.
Podrá inscribir en la oficina parroquial durante los siguientes horarios; Lunes, martes y jueves de 9:00 a.m. a 5:00 p.m.
Miércoles de 1:00 a 8:00 p.m. en la oficina parroquial o en la del catecismo durante las clases. Y los domingos durante el
mes de Mayo y los primeros de Junio después de las misas de 9 am, 11 am, y 1:00 p.m. También puede inscribir y pagar
a través de nuestra página www.olfchurch.net

Domingo de Pentecostés
P
entecostés marca el final del tiempo de Pascua. Ésta es la
única fiesta del año en que la Iglesia enfoca su celebración en
la tercera persona de la Trinidad, Dios Espíritu Santo. Éste es un día
perfecto para recordar lo que Jesús dijo de sí mismo citando al profeta
Isaías (Isaías 61:1–2):
El espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido y me ha
enviado para anunciar la buena nueva a los pobres, a curar a los de
corazón quebrantado, a proclamar el perdón a los cautivos, y la libertad
a los prisioneros; a pregonar el año de gracia del Señor, el día de la
venganza de nuestro Dios.
El Espíritu Santo descendió sobre Jesús en su bautismo. Ese mismo Espíritu, que también
descendió sobre los discípulos en Pentecostés, el nacimiento de la Iglesia, es el Espíritu que
descendió a las aguas de nuestro Bautismo ungiéndonos con el santo óleo de la salvación. El Espíritu
descendió sobre nosotros para darnos una fuerza renovada en nuestra Confirmación ungiéndonos
como discípulos de Cristo. Es el Espíritu Santo que nos da una fuerza siempre nueva para enfrentar
los retos de la vida diaria, inspirándonos y fortaleciéndonos para vivir como discípulos de Jesús y
siempre en su amistad. Eso no quiere decir que el camino sea fácil o que siempre seremos
comprendidos, aceptados, ni exitosos. Sí quiere decir que si confiamos en el Espíritu Santo y sus
profundos susurros en nuestra conciencia siempre hablaremos y actuaremos con fe y verdad. No nos
