GAHCC Web Site Makes its Debut in Spanish
GAHCC lanza su página web en español
Traducción de Carolina Modesto
By Josh Garza, Internet Media and Education
As the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC)
moves forward in 2010, we are excited to announce the launch
of our new Spanish web site. As GAHCC members move into the
new decade, the GAHCC will continue to offer communications
that provide important information, ensuring all business needs
are met. Central Texas is a diverse region with a large population
of Spanish speakers. A 2007 Pew Hispanic Center study found
that 80% of Hispanics in Central Texas speak a language other
than English at home. In order to ensure that we meet the needs
of our Spanish speaking members, we aspire to give them top
quality information and tools to remain successful in Central
Texas.
The GAHCC also realizes the global community that we all live in.
With our new Spanish web site, we are promoting an international
presence in foreign countries that want to do business in Central
Texas. Please take the opportunity to visit www.gahcc.org and
start exploring the new bilingual web site.

Don’t Let the Flu Leave You Blue
By Julia Winston, Health and Wellness Committee
Traducción de Carolina Modesto
Seldom do employees want to “waste” a personal day for sick
time, or feel that they cannot afford to miss a day of work. When
someone comes to work sick there is a high likelihood that their
illness will spread to others, including their coworkers and
customers. Flu spreads easily and quickly, and the best way to
keep your business running smoothly through flu season is to
encourage people to stay home when they are sick.
Please take advantage of the City’s flu web site,
www.austinflu.com to learn more about how to limit the spread
of flu, and to be prepared in the event that you need to stay
home. This web site has useful and creative information for you
and your family about flu symptoms and facts. Also, for those
individuals with small children, there is useful information about
how to tell when a child is sick, and when it is not okay to go to
school or child care.
Take care of yourself, your family, your employees and their
families this flu season. Get vaccinated and get informed. Stay
home until you or your loved ones are well. Rest is best for the flu
and for you!
gripa… y usted.

Access to Capital News: Startup Business Financed!
“Access to Capital” ofrece financiamiento a empresas en sus etapas iniciales
By Adeline Rem, Celtic Bank, Access to Capital Committee Member
Our latest success at the GAHCC, Alberto S. Cohen, CPA, was able to secure financing thanks to the Access to Capital committee. Cole
Harmonson of Far West Capital, and Chair of the Access to Capital Committee, was able to guide Alberto S. Cohen, CPA into the right
hands resulting in a successful transaction.
The purpose of the committee is to help small businesses have access to capital. The process starts by completing a simple one page
form on the web site at www.gahcc.org. Click on Economic Development and then Access to Capital Triage. This information that is
entered is then forwarded to a team of lending professionals who understand small business needs. At this point, a member of the
committee helps ascertain if the prospect is packaged correctly for financing and what type of financing would best fit.
In addition to the online intake form, the committee is also available on Wednesday afternoons at the Emerging Enterprises Incubator
Building located at 1144 Airport Blvd., Suite 260. If you are interested in obtaining more information, you can e-mail Nayeli Gallegos at

Emerging Enterprises Graduate: Alberto Cohen, CPA
Alberto Cohen, CPA, graduando de Emerging Enterprices
By Monica Willey, HTIA Program Administrator
Alberto Cohen is a CPA with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree
in Taxation. He has practiced public accounting for more than 18 years while serving clients
with integrity, passion and commitment to help them realize their financial goals.
Alberto knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur because he wanted to be in control of his own
future, feel the satisfaction of building something of his own and gain financial independence.
The thought of creating a company based on his own practices, visions and goals drove him to
seek guidance in the form of Emerging Enterprises, where he began the Business Management
classes in October 2009.
Alberto said his biggest fear was resigning from his job and giving up the financial security of a steady paycheck. The incubator helped
relieve this fear by translating his vision and ideas into tangible financial projections. He plans on using his financial projections as a way
to map his necessary steps for future growth. On January 21, 2010 Alberto Cohen
successfully launched his own CPA practice.
When asked if he would recommend the Emerging Enterprises Business Incubator program, Alberto responded, “Definitely! It is a great
tool to motivate entrepreneurs to take the challenge and materialize their ideas and goals”.
If you are interested in Alberto’s CPA services, he can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]. If you would like to learn more
about Emerging Enterprises, please contact Heberto Ochoa at [email protected].
