Dear Parents and Guardians, I`m thrilled to be back at Zilker this year

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I’m thrilled to be back at Zilker this year as the counselor for our pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students.
We had a lot of fun and learned a lot last year and I’m excited to continue to build a positive climate of social
and emotional learning this year.
I will visit all classrooms once a month to build community and expand on the problem solving and conflict
resolution skills that your child’s teacher is working on using the SEL Second Step curriculum. In addition, I
will facilitate classroom activities revolving around career development, stranger and internet safety, personal
safety, bullying, being an upstander, and conflict resolution strategies, to name a few.
And finally, more exciting news to share!! I’m happy to introduce Cash, a new (canine)
addition to the Zilker family. Cash is a certified therapy dog, and my pet, with whom I
am lucky to be able to work this year. Cash is certified to work with children through
Austin Dog Alliance. In order to obtain these certifications, Cash had to pass several
temperament tests and be deemed predictable in his behavior in environments such as
schools, hospitals, libraries and natural disaster relief.
At Zilker, Cash will accompany me during classroom visits 1-3 days a week and help build relationships during
small groups and individual counseling sessions. Research has shown that Therapy Dogs help with emotional
regulation and tend to create a comfortable, warm setting. Some students will
also have a chance to read to Cash, which has been shown in various research
studies to build fluency and confidence in reading aloud. While it seems that
many students are ecstatic about having a dog at school, it’s likely that others
will be more hesitant, or even afraid. Please be aware that no student is
obligated to interact with Cash. I will ask students to wash their hands after
petting Cash to avoid the spread of hair and dander; however, under rare
circumstances, students with severe allergies may need different accommodations. If your child has allergies,
or you do not wish to have your child to interact with Cash for any reason, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

lesson describes the structure and procedures we will be following to ensure
everyone has a positive experience with Cash!

Estoy encantado de estar de vuelta en Zilker este año como el orientador de su Pre K a través
de los estudiantes de quinto grado. Teníamos un montón de diversión y aprendí mucho el año pasado y
tengo ganas de seguir construyendo un clima positivo de sociales y emocionales de aprendizaje en el
nuevo año escolar.
Este año visitaré todas las aulas dos veces al mes para construir comunidad y ampliar el
problema de problemas y conflictos resolución las habilidades que el maestro de su hijo está trabajando
en el diario. Como escuela, continuaremos a usar el currículo paso 2 para enseñar específicos,
habilidades apropiadas destinadas a ayudar a su niño a alcanzar el éxito académico, social y emocional
de la edad. Además, se facilitará actividades giran en torno a desarrollo de carrera, extraño y
seguridad en internet y salud personal. Para estudiantes que necesitan apoyo adicional, estoy
disponible para reunirse con los estudiantes en pequeños grupos e individualmente. También estoy feliz
de consultar con los padres acerca de los cambios familiares, factores estresantes u otras
preocupaciones que pueden estar afectando el desempeño de su hijo en la escuela.
Me complace presentar a Cash, una nueva adición (canina) a la familia Zilker. Cash es un perro
de terapia certificada y mi mascota, que soy afortunado de poder trabajar con este año. Cash está
registrada con Austin Dog Alliance. Para obtener estas certificaciones, Cash tenía que pasar varias
pruebas de temperamento y considerará "predecible" en su comportamiento en ambientes tales como
escuelas, hospitales y mitigación de los desastres naturales.
A Zilker, Cash me acompañará durante el aula visitas y ayudar a construir relaciones durante
sesiones de consejería individual y pequeños grupos. Algunos estudiantes también tendrán la
