God’s Love
“God so loved the world that He gave His one
and only Son, that who ever believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16,
NIV).
God’s Plan
[Christ speaking] “I came that they might have
life, and might have it abundantly” [that it
might be full and meaningful] (John 10:10).
Why is it that most people are not experiencing
the abundant life?

Therefore, he cannot know and experience
God’s love and plan for his life.
Man Is Sinful
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God” (Romans 3:23).
Man was created to have fellowship with God;
but, because of his own stubborn self-will, he
chose to go his own independent way and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will,
characterized by an attitude of active rebellion
or passive indifference, is an evidence of what
the Bible calls sin.

He Died In Our Place
“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us” (Romans 5:8).
He Rose from the Dead
“Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He
was raised on the third day, according to the
Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the
twelve. After that He appeared to more than
five hundred...” (1 Corinthians 15:3–6).

He Is the Only Way to God
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth,
and the life; no one comes to the Father but
through Me’” (John 14:6).

You Can Receive Christ Right Now
by Faith Through Prayer
(Prayer is talking with God)
God knows your heart and is not so concerned
with your words as He is with the attitude of
your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for
dying on the cross for my sins. I open the
door of my life and receive You as my
Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving
my sins and giving me eternal life. Take
control of the throne of my life. Make me
the kind of person You want me to be.
Does this prayer express the desire of your heart?
If it does, I invite you to pray this prayer right
now, and Christ will come into your life, as He
promised.

How to Know That Christ Is in Your Life
Did you receive Christ into your life? According to
His promise in Revelation 3:20, where is Christ right
now in relation to you? Christ said He would come
into your life. Would He mislead you? On what authority do you know God has answered your prayer?
(The trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word.)
The Bible Promises Eternal Life to
All Who Receive Christ
“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His
Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does
not have the Son of God does not have the life.
These things I have written to you who believe in
the name of the Son of God, in order that you may
know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11–13).
Thank God often that Christ is in your life and
that He will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5). You
can know on the basis of His promise that Christ
lives in you and that you have eternal life from the
very moment you invite Him in. He will not
deceive you.

An important reminder...
Do Not Depend on Feelings
The promise of God’s Word, the Bible—not our
feelings—is our authority. The Christian lives
by faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God
Himself and His Word. This train diagram illustrates the relationship among fact (God and His
Word), faith (our trust in God and His Word),
and feeling (the result of our faith and obedience). (Read John 14:21.)
The train will
run with or
without the
caboose. However, it would be useless to attempt to pull the
train by the caboose. In the same way, as Christians we do not depend on feelings or emotions,
but we place our faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God and the promises of His Word.

Now That You Have Received Christ
The moment you received Christ by faith, as an
act of the will, many things happened, including
the following:
Christ came into your life (Revelation 3:20;
Colossians 1:27).
Your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:14).
You became a child of God (John 1:12).
You received eternal life (John 5:24).
You began the great adventure for which God
created you (John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17;
1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Can you think of anything more wonderful that
could happen to you than receiving Christ?
Would you like to thank God in prayer right
now for what He has done for you? By thanking
God, you demonstrate your faith.
To enjoy your new life to the fullest ...

Suggestions for Christian Growth
Spiritual growth results from trusting Jesus
Christ. “The righteous man shall live by faith”
(Galatians 3:11). A life of faith will enable you
to trust God increasingly with every detail of
your life, and to practice the following:
G Go to God in prayer daily (John 15:7).
R Read God’s Word daily (Acts 17:11);
begin with the Gospel of John.
O Obey God moment by moment
(John 14:21).
W Witness for Christ by your life and words
(Matthew 4:19; John 15:8).
T Trust God for every detail of your life
(1 Peter 5:7).
H Holy Spirit—allow Him to control and
empower your daily life and witness
(Galatians 5:16,17; Acts 1:8).

Fellowship in a Good Church
God’s Word instructs us not to forsake “the
assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews
10:25). Several logs burn brightly together, but
put one aside on the cold hearth and the fire
goes out. So it is with your relationship with
other Christians.
If you do not belong to a church, do not wait to
be invited. Take the initiative; call the pastor of
a nearby church where Christ is honored and
His Word is preached. Start this week, and make
plans to attend regularly.

God’s Love

We Receive Christ Through Personal Invitation
[Christ speaking] “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My
voice and opens the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20).
Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self (repentance) and trusting
Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and to make us what He wants
us to be. Just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that
He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an
emotional experience. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.
These two circles represent two kinds of lives:
Self-Directed Life
Christ-Directed Life
S – Self is on the throne
✝ – Christ is outside the life
● – Interests are directed by self, often
✝ – Christ is in the life and on the throne
S – Self is yielding to Christ
● – Interests are directed by Christ,
resulting in discord and frustration

Recibimos a Cristo por medio de una invitación personal
Cristo dice: “He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo; si alguno oye mi voz y abre la
puerta, entraré a él...” (Apocalipsis 3:20). El recibir a Cristo significa volverse a
Dios, abandonando nuestra vida egocéntrica (arrepentimiento), confiando en

El hombre es pecador y está separado de
Dios, por lo tanto no puede conocer ni experimentar el amor y plan de Dios para su vida.

“Por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituídos de la gloria de Dios”
(Romanos 3:23).
El hombre fue creado para tener compañerismo con Dios; pero debido a su
voluntad terca y egoísta, escogió su propio camino y su relación con Dios se
interrumpió. Esta voluntad egoísta, caracterizada por una actitud de rebelión
activa o indiferencia pasiva, es una evidencia de lo que la Biblia llama pecado.

“Porque la paga del pecado es muerte” [o sea separación espiritual de Dios]
(Romanos 6:23).

“Mas Dios muestra su amor para con nosotros, en que siendo aún pecadores, Cristo murió por nosotros” (Romanos 5:8).

“Cristo murió por nuestros pecados... fue sepultado, y... resucitó al tercer

Debemos individualmente recibir a Jesucristo como
Salvador y Señor; sólo así podremos experimentar
el amor y el plan de Dios para nuestras vidas.
Debemos recibir a Cristo
“Mas a todos los que le recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dió
potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios” (San Juan 1:12).
Recibimos a Cristo mediante la fe
“Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues
es don de Dios; no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe” (Efesios 2:8,9).
Cuando recibimos a Cristo experimentamos un nuevo nacimiento

Recibimos a Cristo por medio de una invitación personal
Cristo dice: “He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo; si alguno oye mi voz y abre la
puerta, entraré a él...” (Apocalipsis 3:20). El recibir a Cristo significa volverse a
Dios, abandonando nuestra vida egocéntrica (arrepentimiento), confiando en
Cristo para que venga a nuestra vida y nos perdone nuestros pecados. De esa
manera podrá hacernos la clase de personas que El quiere que seamos. No es suficiente el solo estar de acuerdo intelectualmente que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios y
que murió en la cruz por nuestros pecados. Ni es suficiente el tener una experiencia
emocional. Se recibe a Cristo por fe, como un acto de nuestra voluntad.
Estos círculos representan dos clases de vidas:

Usted puede recibir a Cristo ahora mismo por fe, mediante
la oración (Orar es hablar con Dios)
Dios conoce su corazón y no tiene tanto interés en sus palabras, sino más
bien en la actitud de su corazón. La siguiente oración se sugiere como guía:
Señor Jesús, te necesito. Gracias por morir en la cruz por mis pecados. Te abro la puerta de mi vida y te recibo como mi Salvador y
Señor. Gracias por perdonar mis pecados y por darme vida eterna.
Toma control del trono de mi vida. Hazme la persona que Tú quieres
que yo sea.
¿Expresa esta oración el deseo de su corazón?
Si lo expresa, haga esta oración ahora mismo, y Cristo entrará a su vida tal 19
como El lo prometió.
Como sabe usted que Cristo está en su vida
¿Recibió a Cristo en su vida? De acuerdo con Su promesa en Apocalipsis 3:20,
¿Dónde está Cristo ahora mismo en relación a usted? Cristo dijo que entraría a
su vida. ¿Le engañaría El? ¿En base a que autoridad sabe usted que Dios le ha
contestado su oración? (Por la fidelidad de Dios mismo y Su Palabra.)
La Biblia promete vida eterna a todos los que reciben a Cristo
“Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna; y esta vida está en
Su Hijo. El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no
tiene la vida. Estas cosas os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en el nombre del
Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis vida eterna.” (1 Juan 5:11–13).
Agradézcale siempre porque Cristo está en su vida y que nunca le abandonará
(Hebreos 13:5). Usted puede estar seguro, en base de Sus promesas, que Cristo 21
vive en usted y de que tiene vida eterna desde el momento en que lo invitó a
entrar en su vida. El no le engañará.

No dependa de sus sentimientos

Sugerencias para el crecimiento Cristiano
El crecimiento espiritual es el resultado de cuando confiamos en Cristo Jesús.
“El justo por la fe vivirá” (Gálatas 3:11). Una vida de fe le capacitará para confiarle

Have You Made the
Wonderful Discovery
of the
Spirit-Filled
Life?
E
very day can be an exciting adventure for the Christian who
knows the reality of being filled with the Holy Spirit
and who lives constantly, ­moment by moment, under
His gracious direction.
The Bible tells us that there are three kinds of people:
1. Natural PERSON
(One who has not received Christ)
Self-Directed Life
– Self is on the throne
– Christ is outside the life
“A natural man does not – Interests are directed by
often resulting in
accept the things of the self,
discord and frustration
Spirit of God; for they
are foolishness to him,
and he cannot understand them, because they are ­spiritually
ap­praised” (1 Cor­inthians 2:14).
2. Spiritual PERSON
(One who is directed and
empowered by the Holy Spirit)
Christ-Directed Life
– Christ is in the life and
on the throne
– Self is yielding to Christ
– Interests are directed
by Christ, resulting in
harmony with God’s plan
“He who is spiritual
appraises all things...
We have the mind of
Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:15,16).
3. worldly (Carnal) person
(One who has received Christ, but who lives in defeat because he is trying to live
the Christian life in his own strength)
Self-Directed Life
– Self is on the throne
– Christ dethroned and not
allowed to direct the life
– Interests are directed by
self, often resulting in
discord and frustration
“Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as
worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid
food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still
not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy
and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you
not acting like mere men?” (1 Corinthians 3:1–3, NIV).
The following are four principles for living the Spirit-filled life.

God has provided for us an abundant and
fruitful Christian life.
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that
they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10, NKJ).
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me,
and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do
nothing” (John 15:5, NKJ).
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, selfcontrol; against such things there is no law” (Galatians
5:22,23).
“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come
upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part
of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
The following are some personal traits of the spiritual person
that result from ­trusting God:
Love
Joy
 Peace
 Patience
 Kindness
 Faithfulness
 Goodness
Life is Christ-centered
Empowered by Holy Spirit
 Introduces others to Christ
 Has effective prayer life
 Understands God's Word
 Trusts God
 Obeys God




The degree to which these traits are mani­fested in the
life depends on the extent to which the Christian trusts
the Lord with every detail of his life, and on his maturity
in Christ. One who is only beginning to understand the
ministry of the Holy Spirit should not be ­discouraged if
he is not as fruitful as more mature Christians who have
known and experienced this truth for a longer period.
Why is it that most Christians are not experiencing the abundant
life?

Worldly Christians cannot experience the
abundant and fruitful‑Christian life.
The worldly (carnal) person trusts in his own efforts to live
the Christian life:
u He is either uninformed about, or has forgotten, God’s
love, forgiveness, and power (Romans 5:8–10; Hebrews
10:1–25; 1 John 1; 2:1–3; 2 Peter 1:9; Acts 1:8).
Some or all of the following traits may characterize the
worldly person—the Christian who does not fully trust God:
Legalistic attitude
Impure thoughts
 Jealousy
 Guilt
 Worry
 Discouragement
 Critical spirit
 Frustration
 Aimlessness


Fear
Ignorance of his spiritual
heritage
 Unbelief
 Disobedience
 Loss of love for God and
for others
 Poor prayer life
 No desire for Bible study


u He has an up-and-down spiritual experience.
u He cannot understand himself—he wants to do what is
right, but ­cannot.
u He fails to draw on the power of the Holy Spirit to live
the Christian life (1 Corinthians 3:1–3; Romans 7:15–24;
8:7; Galatians 5:16–18).
(The individual who professes to be a Christian but who
continues to practice sin should realize that he may not be
a Christian at all, according to 1 John 2:3; 3:6–9; Ephesians
5:5.)
The third truth gives us the only solution to this problem . . .

Jesus promised the abundant and fruitful
life as the result of being filled (directed and
­empowered) by the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit-filled life is the Christ-directed life by which
Christ lives His life in and through us in the power of the
Holy Spirit ( John 15).
u One becomes a Christian through the ministry of the
Holy Spirit, according to John 3:1–8. From the moment
of spiritual birth, the Christian is indwelt by the Holy
Spirit at all times ( John 1:12; Colossians 2:9,10; John
14:16,17).
u The Holy Spirit is the source of the overflowing life
( John 7:37–39).
u The Holy Spirit came to glorify Christ ( John 16:1–15).
When one is filled with the Holy Spirit, he is a true
disciple of Christ.
u In His last command before His ascension, Christ
promised the power of the Holy Spirit to enable us to
be witnesses for Him (Acts 1:1–9).
How, then, can one be filled with the Holy Spirit?
Though all Christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, not all
Christians are filled (directed and empowered) by the Holy Spirit
on an ongoing basis.

We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith; then we
can experience the abundant and fruitful life that
Christ promised.
You can appropriate the filling of the Holy Spirit right
now if you:
u Sincerely desire to be directed and empowered by the
Holy Spirit (Matthew 5:6; John 7:37–39).
u Confess your sins. By faith, thank God that He has
forgiven all of your sins—past, ­present, and future—
because Christ died for you (Colossians 2:13–15; 1 John
1; 2:1–3; Hebrews 10:1–17).
u Present every area of your life to God (Romans 12:1,2).
u By faith claim the fullness of the Holy Spirit, according
to:
His command: Be filled with the Spirit.
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.
Instead, be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18, NIV).
His promise: He will always answer when we pray
according to His will.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears
us. And if we know that he hears us—what­ever we
ask—we know that we have what we asked of him”
(1 John 5:14,15, NIV).
Faith can be expressed through prayer . . .

How to Pray in Faith to be Filled
With the Holy Spirit
We are filled with the Holy Spirit by faith alone. However,
true prayer is one way of expressing our faith. The
following is a suggested prayer:
Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have
sinned against You by directing my own life. I thank
You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s
death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again
take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the
Holy Spirit as You ­commanded me to be filled, and
as You promised in Your Word that You would do if
I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. As an
expression of my faith, I now thank You for directing
my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit.
Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If so,
bow in prayer and trust God to fill you with the Holy Spirit
right now.

How to Know That You Are Filled
(Directed and Empowered) By the Holy Spirit
Did you ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit? Do you
know that you are now filled with the Holy Spirit? On what
authority? (On the trustworthiness of God Himself and His
Word: Hebrews 11:6; John 17:17.)
Do not depend on feelings. The promise of God’s Word,
not our feelings, is our authority. The Christian lives by
faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God Himself and His
Word. This train diagram illustrates the relationship among
fact (God and His Word), faith (our trust in God and His
Word), and feeling (the result of our faith and obedience)
(John 14:21).
The train will run
with or without the
caboose. However,
it would be futile to
attempt to pull the train by the caboose. In the same way,
we as Christians do not depend on feelings or emotions,
but we place our faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God
and the promises of His Word.

How to Walk in the Spirit
Faith (trust in God and His promises) is the only way a
Christian can live the Spirit-directed life. As you continue to
trust Christ moment by moment:
u Your life will demonstrate more and more of the fruit
of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23) and will be more and
more conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 12:2;
2 Corinthians 3:18).
u Your prayer life and study of God’s Word will become
more meaningful.
u You will experience His power in witnessing (Acts 1:8).
u You will be prepared for spiritual conflict against the
world (1 John 2:15–17); against the flesh (Galatians
5:16,17); and against Satan (1 Peter 5:7–9; Ephesians
6:10–13).
u You will experience His power to resist temptation and
sin (1 Corin­thi­ans 10:13; Philippians 4:13; Ephesians
1:19–23; 2 Timothy 1:7; Romans 6:1–16).

Spiritual Breathing
If you become aware of an area of your life (an attitude or
an action) that is displeasing to the Lord, even though you are
walking with Him and sincerely desiring to serve Him, simply
thank God that He has forgiven your sins—past, present, and
future—on the basis of Christ’s death on the cross. Claim His
love and forgiveness by faith and continue to have fellowship
with Him.
If you retake the throne of your life through sin—a
definite act of disobedience—breathe spiritually. Spiritual
Breathing (exhaling the impure and inhaling the pure) is an
exercise in faith that enables you to experience God’s love and
forgiveness.
1. Exhale: Confess your sin—agree with God concerning your
sin and thank Him for His forgiveness of it, according to
1 John 1:9 and Hebrews 10:1–25. Con­fession involves
repentance—a change in attitude and action.
2. Inhale: Surrender the control of your life to Christ, and
receive the fullness of the‑Holy Spirit by faith. Trust that He
now directs and empowers you, according to the command
of Ephesians 5:18 and the promise of 1 John 5:14,15.

Dear Friend,
Yes, you can know God personally, as presumptuous
as that might sound. God is so eager to establish a
personal, loving relationship with you that He has
already made all the arrangements. He is patiently
and lovingly waiting for you to respond to His
invitation. You can receive forgiveness of your sins
and assurance of eternal life through faith in His
only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The major barrier that prevents us from knowing
God personally is ignorance of who God is and what
He has done for us. Read and discover for yourself
the joyful reality of knowing God personally.
The following four principles will help you
discover how to know God personally and
experience the abundant life He promised.
God loves you and created you
to know Him personally.
God’s Love
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
God’s Plan
“Now this is eternal life: that they may know You,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You
have sent” (John 17:3, NIV).
. . . What prevents us from knowing God personally?
Man is sinful and separated from God,
so we cannot know Him personally
and experience His Love.
Man is Sinful
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God” (Romans 3:23).
Man was created to have fellowship with God; but,
because of his stubborn self-will, he chose to go
his own independent way, and fellowship with God
was broken. This self-will, characterized by an
attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference,
is evidence of what the Bible calls sin.
Man is Separated
“For the wages of sin is death” (spiritual
separation from God) (Romans 6:23).

Jesus Christ is God’s only provision
for man’s sin. Through Him alone
we can know God personally and
experience God’s love.
He Died in Our Place
“But God demonstrates His own love towards us,
in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us” (Romans 5:8).
He Rose From the Dead
“Christ died for our sins… He was buried…He
was raised on the third day, according to the
Scriptures…He appeared to Peter, then to the
twelve. After that He appeared to more than five
hundred” (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).
He Is the Only Way to God
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth,
and the life; no one comes to the Father, but
through Me’” (John 14:6).

We must individually receive

then we can know God personally
and experience His love.
We Must Receive Jesus Christ
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave
the right to become children of God, even to
those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
We Receive Christ Through Faith
“For by grace you have been saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
not a result of works, that no one should boast”
(Ephesians 2:8, 9).
When We Receive Christ,We Experience a New
Birth.
(Read John 3:1-8.)
We Receive Christ by Personal Invitation
(Christ is speaking): “Behold, I stand at the door and
knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20).
Receiving Christ involves turning to God from self
(repentance) and trusting Christ to come into our
lives to forgive our sins and to make us the kind of
people He wants us to be. Just to agree intellectually
that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died
on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it
enough to have an emotional experience. We receive
Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.
These two circles represent two kinds of lives:

You Can Receive Christ Right Now
By Faith Through Prayer
(Prayer is talking with God)
God knows your heart and is not so concerned with
your words as He is with the attitude of your heart.
The following is a suggested prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally.
Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I
open the door of my life and receive You as my
Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins
and giving me eternal life. Take control of the
throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You
want me to be.”
Does this prayer express the desire of your heart?
If it does, pray this prayer right now, and Christ
will come into your life, as He promised.

How to Know That Christ Is in Your Life
Did you receive Christ into your life? According to His
promise in Revelation 3:20, where is Christ right now
in relation to you? Christ said that He would come
into your life and be your friend so you can know Him
personally. Would He mislead you? On what authority
do you know that God has answered your prayer?
(The trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word.)
The Bible Promises Eternal Life
to All Who Receive Christ
“And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal
life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has
the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not
have the life. These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you
may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13).
Thank God often that Christ is in your life and that He
will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5). You can know on
the basis of His promise that Christ lives in you and
that you have eternal life, from the very moment you
invite Him in. He will not deceive you.

An important reminder . . .
Do Not Depend on Feelings
The promise of God’s Word, the Bible—not our
feelings—is our authority. The Christian lives by faith
(trust) in the trustworthiness of God Himself and His
Word. This train diagram illustrates the relationship
between fact (God and His Word), faith (our trust in God
and His Word), and feeling (the result of our faith and
obedience) (John 14:21).
The train will run with or without the caboose.
However, it would be useless to attempt to pull the train
by the caboose. In the same way, we, as Christians,
do not depend on feelings or emotions, but we place
our faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God and the
promise of His Word.

Now that You Have Entered into a
Personal Relationship with Christ
The moment that you received Christ by faith, as an
act of the will, many things happened, including the
following:
1. Christ came into your life (Revelation 3:20 and Colossians 1:27).
2. Your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:14).
3. You became a child of God (John 1:12).
4. You received eternal life (John 5:24).
5. You began the great adventure for which God created you (John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17 and
1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Can you think of anything more wonderful that
could happen to you than entering into a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ? Would you like to
thank God in prayer right now for what He has done
for you? By thanking God, you demonstrate your faith.

Suggestions for Christian Growth
Spiritual growth results from trusting Jesus Christ.
“The righteous man shall live by faith” (Galatians
3:11). A life of faith will enable you to trust God
increasingly with every detail of your life and to
practice the following:

Read God’s Word daily (Acts 17:11). Begin with the
Gospel of John.

Obey God moment by moment (John 14:21).

Witness for Christ by your life and words (Matthew

Holy Spirit—Allow Him to control and empower your

Fellowship in a Good Church
God’s Word admonishes us not to forsake “the
assembling of ourselves together…” (Hebrews 10:25).
Several logs burn brightly together; but put one aside on
the cold hearth and the fire goes out. So it is with your
relationship with other Christians. If you do not belong
to a church, do not wait to be invited. Take the initiative;
call the pastor of a nearby church where Christ is
honored and His Word is preached. Start this week, and
make plans to attend regularly.

Sí, usted puede conocer a Dios personalmente,
aunque decir esto parezca presuntuoso. Dios
desea tanto establecer una relación personal y
afectuosa con usted, que ya ha hecho todos los

El plan de Dios
“Y esta es la vida eterna: que te conozcan a ti, el
único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien has
enviado” (San Juan 17:3).
¿Qué nos impide conocer a Dios personalmente?
El hombre es pecador y está
separado de Dios, por lo lanto no
podemos conocerle personalmente ni
experimentar Su amor.

El hombre es perador
“Por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de
la gloria de Dios” (Romanos 3:23).
El hombre fue creado para tener compañerismo
con Dios; pero debido a su voluntad terca y egoísta,
escogió su propio camino y su relación con Dios se
interrumpió. Esta voluntad egoísta, caracterizada
por una actitud de rebelión activa o indiferencia
pasiva, es una evidencia de lo que la Biblia llama
pecado.
El hombre está separado
“Porque la paga del pecado es muerte” (o sea
separación espiritual de Dios) (Romanos 6:23).
Este diagrama ilustra que Dios es santo y que
el hombre es pecador. Un
gran abismo los separa.

“Mas Dios muestra su amor para con nosotros,
en que siendo aún pecadores, Cristo murió por
nosotros” (Romanos 5:8).
El resucitó de entre los muertos e Rose
“Cristo murió por nuestros pecados... fue
sepultado, y... resucitó al tercer día conforme
a las Escrituras; ...apareció a Cefas, y después
a los doce. Después apareció a más de
quinientos...” (1 Corintios 15:3-6).
El es el único camino a Dios
“Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad,
y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por Mi”
(San Juan 14:6).

We Debemos individualmente
recibir a Jesucristo como Salvador
y Señor; sólo así podremos
conocer a Dios personalmente y
experimentar Su amor.
Debemos recibir a Cristo
“Mas a todos los que le recibieron, a los que
creen en su nombre, les dio potestad de ser
hechos hijos de Dios” (San Juan 1:12).
Recibimos a Cristo mediante la fe
“Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la
fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios;
no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe” (Efesios
2:8,9).
Cuando recibimos a Cristo experimentamos
un nuevo narimiento
(Lea San Juan 3:1-8).
Recibimos a Cristo por medio de una
invitarión personal (Cristo dice: “He aquí, yo estoy a la
puerta y llamo; si alguno oye mi voz y abre la puerta, entraré
a él...” (Apocalipsis 3:20)
El recibir a Cristo significa volverse a Dios, abandonando
nuestra vida egocéntrica (arrepentimiento), confiando en
Cristo para que venga a nuestra vida y nos perdone nuestros
pecados. De esa manera podrá hacernos la clase de personas
que El quiere que seamos. El hecho de sólo estar de acuerdo
íntelectualmente de que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios y de que
murió en la cruz por nuestros pecados, no es suficiente. Ni
es suficiente el tener una experiencia emocional. Se recibe a
Cristo por fe, como un acto de nuestra voluntad.
Estos círculos representan dos clases de vidas:

¿Cuál círculo le gustaría que representara su vida?
A continuación se explica cómo puede usted recibir a
Cristo:
Usted puede recinir a Cristo
ahora mismo por fe, mediante
la oración. (Orar es hablar con Dios)
Dios conoce su corazón y no tiene tanto interés en
sus palabras, sino más bien en la actitud de su corazón.
La siguiente oración se sugiere como guía:
“Señor Jesús, te quiero conocer personalmente.
Gracias por morir en la cruz por mis pecados. Te abro
la puerta de mi vida y te recibo como mi Salvador y
Señor. Gracias por perdonar mis pecados y por darme
vida eterna. Toma control del trono de mi vida. Hazme
la persona que Tú quieres que yo sea.”
¿ Expresa esta oración el deseo de su corazón?
Si lo expresa, haga esta Oración ahora mismo, y
Cristo entrará a su vida tal como lo prometió.

¿Comu sabe usted que Cristo está en su vida?
¿Recibió a Cristo en su vida? De acuerdo con Su
promesa en Apocalipsis 3:20, ¿Dónde está Cristo ahora
mismo en relación a usted? Cristo dijo que entraría a
su vida y que sería su amigo para que lo pueda conocer
personalmente. ¿Le engañaría El? ¿Cómo sabe usted que
Dios ha contestado su oración? (Por la fidelidad de Dios
mismo y Su Palabra.)
La Biblia promete vida eterna a todos los
que reciben a Cristo
“Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida
eterna; y esta vida está en Su Hijo. El que tiene al Hijo,
tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la
vida. Estas cosas os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en
el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis
vida eterna, y para que creáis en el nombre del Hijode
Dios” (I Juan 5:11-13).
Agradézcale siempre porque Cristo está en su vida
y que nunca le abandonará (Hebreos 13:5). Puede
estar seguro que el Cristo vivo mora en usted y que
tiene vida eterna desde el mismo momento en que lo
invitó a entrar confiando en Su promesa. El nunca le
engañaría.

Un importante recordatorio...
No dependa de sus sentimientos
La promesa de la Palabra de Dios, la Biblia, y no
nuestros sentimientos, es nuestra autoridad. El
cristiano vive por fe (confianza) en la fidelidad de Dios
mismo y Su Palabra. El diagrama del tren ilustra la
relación entre el hecho (Dios y Su Palabra), la fe (nuestra
confianza en Dios y Su Palabra), y los sentimientos (el
resultado de la fe y la obediencia) (San Juan 14:21).
El tren corre con o sin el vagón. Sin embargo, sería
inútil tratar de que el vagón haga correr al tren.
Del mismo modo, nosotros, como cristianos, no
dependemos de los sentimientos o emociones, sino que
ponemos nuestra fe (confianza) en la fidelidad de Dios y
en las promesas de Su Palabra.

Ahora que ha comenzado una relación personal
con Cristo
En el momento en que usted por fe, como un acto
de su voluntad, recibió a Cristo, muchas cosas
ocurrieron, incluyendo las siguientes:
1. Cristo entró en su vida (Apocalipsis 3:20 y Colosenses 1:27).
2. Sus pecados le fueron perdonados (Colosenses 1:14).
3. Usted ha llegado a ser un hijo de Dios (San Juan 1:12).
4. Tiene ahora vida eterna (San Juan 5:24).

Sugerencias para el crecimiento cristiano
El crecimiento espiritual es el resultado de
permanecer confiando en Cristo Jesús. “El justo
por la fe vivirá” (Gálatas 3:11). Una vida de fe le
capacitará para confiarle a Dios, cada vez más, todo
detalle de su vida y para practicar lo siguiente:

Converse con Dios diariamente en oración
(San Juan 15:7)

Recurra a la Biblia, estudiándola cada día (Hechos
17:11). Principie con el evangelio de San Juan.

Insista en confiar a Dios cada aspecto de su vida

Sea lleno del Espíritu de Cristo. Permítale vivir Su

To be transported by a jet, we must place our faith in
the trustworthiness of the aircraft and the pilot who
flies it. Our feelings of confidence or fear do not affect
the ability of the jet to transport us, though they do
affect how much we enjoy the trip. In the same way,
we as Christians do not depend on feelings or

emotions, but we place our faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God and the promises of His Word.
Now That You Have Entered Into a
Personal Relationship With Christ
The moment you received Christ by faith, as an act
of your will, many things happened, including the
following:
• Christ came into your life (Revelation 3:20 and
Colossians 1:27).
• Your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:14).
•You became a child of God (John 1:12).
• You received eternal life (John 5:24).
•You began the great adventure for which God ­created you
(John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18).

entering into a personal relationship

Suggestions For Christian Growth
Spiritual growth results from trusting Jesus Christ. “…
The righteous will live by faith” (Galatians 3:11). A life
of faith will enable you to trust God increasingly with
every detail of your life, and to practice the following:

R Read God’s Word daily (Acts 17:11)—begin with the
Gospel of John.
OObey God moment by moment (John 14:21).
WWitness for Christ by your life and words (Matthew 4:19; John 15:8).

Remember
Your walk with Christ depends on what you allow Him to
do in and through you empowered by the Holy Spirit, not
what you do for Him through self effort.

Fellowship in a Good Church
God’s Word admonishes us, “Let us not give up meeting
together…” (Hebrews 10:25). Several logs burn brightly
together; but put one aside on the cold hearth and the fire
goes out. So it is with your relationship with other Christians.
If you do not belong to a church, do not wait to be invited.
Take the initiative; call the pastor of a nearby church where
Christ is honored and His Word is preached. Start this week,
and make plans to attend regularly.

Do you desire more? Jesus said, “If anyone is thirsty,
let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in
me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water
will flow from within him” (John 7:37, 38).
What did Jesus mean? John, the biblical author,
went on to explain, “By this he meant the Spirit,
whom those who believed in him were later to
receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been
given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified”
(John 7:39).
Jesus promised that God’s Holy Spirit would satisfy
the thirst, or deepest longings, of all who believe
in Jesus Christ. However, many Christians do not
understand the Holy Spirit or how to experience
Him in their daily lives.

The Holy Spirit is the source of our deepest
satisfaction.
The Holy Spirit is God’s permanent presence
with us.
Jesus said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give
you another Counselor to be with you forever—
the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16, 17).
The Holy Spirit enables us to understand and
experience all God has given us.
“We have not received the spirit of the world
but the Spirit who is from God, that we may
understand what God has freely given us”
(1 Corinthians 2:12).
The Holy Spirit enables us to experience many things:
• A genuine new spiritual life (John 3:1–8).
• The assurance of being a child of God (Romans 8:15, 16).
• The infinite love of God (Romans 5:5; Ephesians 3:18, 19).

“Are you so foolish? After beginning with the
Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal
by human effort?” (Galatians 3:3).
We cannot enjoy all God desires for us if we
live by our self-centered desires.
“For the sinful nature desires what is contrary
to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to
the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each
other, so that you do not do what you want”
(Galatians 5:17).

intimacy with God and
enjoy all He has for us.
Walking in the Spirit moment by moment is a lifestyle. It is
learning to depend upon the Holy Spirit for His abundant
resources as a way of life.
As we walk in the Spirit, we have the ability to
live a life pleasing to God.
“So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not
gratify the desires of the sinful nature…Since
we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit” (Galatians 5:16, 25).
As we walk in the Spirit, we experience
intimacy with God and all He has for us.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22, 23).
The Christ-centered Life

Faith
Faith (trust in God and His promises) is the only way a
Christian can live by the Spirit.
Spiritual breathing is a powerful word picture which
can help you experience moment-by-moment
dependence upon the Spirit.
Exhale: Confess your sin the moment you become
aware of it—agree with God concerning it and thank
Him for His forgiveness, according to 1 John 1:9 and
Hebrews 10:1–25. Confession requires repentance—a
change in attitude and action.
Inhale: Surrender control of your life to Christ, and
rely upon the Holy Spirit to fill you with His presence
and power by faith, according to His command
(Ephesians 5:18) and promise (1 John 5:14, 15).

The essence of the Christian life is what God does in
and through us, not what we do for God. Christ’s life
is reproduced in the believer by the power of the Holy
Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit is to be directed and
empowered by Him.
By faith, we experience God’s power through the
Holy Spirit.
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may
strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your
inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts
through faith” (Ephesians 3:16, 17).
Three important questions to ask yourself:
1.Am I ready now to surrender control of my life to our Lord Jesus Christ? (Romans 12:1, 2)

2.Am I ready now to confess my sins? (1 John 1:9) Sin grieves God’s Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). But God in His love has forgiven all of your sins—past, present, and future—because Christ has died for you.
3.Do I sincerely desire to be directed and
empowered by the Holy Spirit? (John 7:37–39)
By faith claim the fullness of the Spirit according to
His command and promise:
God COMMANDS us to be filled with the Spirit.
“…be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18).
God PROMISES He will always answer when we
pray according to His will.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching
God: that if we ask anything according to his
will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears
us—whatever we ask—we know that we have
what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14, 15).

Turning
Point
Turning point: time when a
decisive change occurs
We are filled with the Holy
Spirit by faith alone.
Sincere prayer is one way of expressing our faith. The
following is a suggested prayer:
Dear Father, I need You. I acknowledge that I have
sinned against You by directing my own life. I thank
You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ’s
death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to
again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill
me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to
be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You
would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name
of Jesus. I now thank You for filling me with the Holy
Spirit and directing my life.
Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If
so, you can pray right now and trust God to fill you
with His Holy Spirit.

How to know that you are filled by the Holy Spirit
•Did you ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit?
•Do you know that you are now filled with the Holy Spirit?
• On what authority? (On the trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word: Hebrews 11:6; Romans 14:22, 23.)
As you continue to depend on God’s Spirit moment by
moment you will experience and enjoy intimacy with God
and all He has for you—a truly rich and satisfying life.
An important reminder…
Do Not Depend on Feelings
The promise of God’s Word, the Bible—not our feelings—is
our authority. The Christian lives by faith (trust) in the
trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word. Flying in an
airplane can illustrate the relationship among fact (God and
His Word), faith (our trust in God and His Word), and feeling
(the result of our faith and obedience) (John 14:21).

the Bible calls sin.

We Receive Christ by Personal Invitation
[Christ is speaking] “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in
to him.” (Revelation 3:20)
Receiving Christ involves:
• Recognizing our need for Christ.
• Turning to Christ and away from self (repentance).
• T rusting Christ to come into our lives, forgive our sins,
and make us what He wants us to be.
Just
to agree that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He
died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to
have an emotional experience. We receive Jesus Christ by faith
as a decision of our will. This illustration represents two types

Prayer is talking with God. God knows your heart and
is not so concerned with your words as He is with the
attitude of your heart. Here is a suggested prayer.
Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross in my place
for my sins. I believe in You, and I open the door of my life and receive
You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving me of my sins and
giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life and make me
the kind of person You want me to be.

change from time to time. However the promises of God’s
Word, the Bible—not our feelings—is the basis of our
confidence. The Christian lives by faith (trust) in God Himself
and His Word.

But, what are we saved from? We’re saved from going
to the devil’s place, and from a lonely life separated from
God.
When We Receive Jesus, We Experience A New Birth
“Jesus replied, 'What I’m about to tell you is
true. No one can see God’s kingdom without
being born again.'” John 3:3, NIVrv
I Receive Jesus By Inviting Him Through The Door
Of My Heart
Jesus speaking, “Here I am! I stand at the door
and knock. If any of you hears my voice and
opens the door, I will come in…” Revelation 3:20,
NIVrv
Receiving Jesus means turning to God and being sorry
for our sins. It means trusting Jesus to come into our
hearts and lives, to forgive our sins, and to make us what
He wants us to be. Just to agree in our heads that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God and that He died for our sins
is not enough. Nor is it enough to just have happy and
good feelings about Him. We must make a DECISION
to receive Jesus by faith. We must CHOOSE to believe,
and then show that we believe by obeying Him and living
10 everyday for Him. These two girls show two kinds of lives.

Here’s how you can know Jesus:
You can know and receive Jesus RIGHT NOW by faith,
through prayer. (Prayer is talking to God.)
God understands you, and wants you to open your
heart to Him. Read the following prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the
cross for my sins. I want to open the door of my heart
and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for
forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life with You in
Heaven. Show me the wonderful plan You have for my
life, and make me the kind of person You want me to
be. Amen.
Does this prayer say
the words you want
to pray to God? If it
does, please go back
to it now and pray it
to Him. Jesus will
come into your
heart and life just
as He promised.

How To Know That Jesus Is
In Your Heart And Life.
Did you receive Jesus into your heart? According to
Revelation 3:20 on page 10, who did Jesus come in
to? Would Jesus lie to you? Of course not! God has
answered your prayer and you can trust Him!
The Bible Promises Eternal Life To All
Who Receive Jesus Christ.
(Eternal life is living forever in Heaven with God after
our bodies die on earth.)
“Here is God’s witness. He has given us eternal
life. That life is found in His Son. Those who
belong to the Son have life. Those who do not
belong to the Son of God do not have life.”
1 John 5:11-13
Thank God for sending Jesus to be your Savior, and
thank Him that Jesus will NEVER leave you. He lives
in you, and you now have eternal life since the very
moment you invited Him in. You can trust that God
will never lie to you.

Always remember…
Do Not Depend On Your Feelings.
God’s Word, the Bible, ALWAYS tells the truth. As a
Christian, you can always trust God and the Bible.

We feel good when we are trusting in God, and are
obeying Him.

Have you ever watched a train? The engine pulls all
the cars. The train depends on the engine in order to
run. But the train can run with or without the caboose
– or good or happy feelings. But, if the caboose tried to
pull the train, it couldn’t, because it has no engine. That
means that even if we are sad, or have problems, God is
still in charge, loving us, and caring for us. And He will
never, ever leave us.

Now That You Have Received Jesus
As Your Savior . . .
The moment you received Jesus into your heart and
life, many things happened, including the following:
• Jesus came into your heart and life.
(Revelation 3:20; Colossians 1:27)
• Your sins were forgiven. (Colossians 1:14)
• You became God’s child. (John 1:12)
• You received eternal life. (John 5:24)
• You began the great adventure of the wonderful
life God has planned for you.
(John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Can you think of anything more exciting that could
happen to you than receiving Jesus? Would you like
to talk to God right now and thank Him for what He
has done for you? By thanking God, you are showing
your faith in Him.
Pray: Thank You, God, for sending Your Son so that
I can be forgiven and have eternal life with You in
Heaven!

It’s Time To Grow.
You have been “born again.” You must start to grow to
be the person God wants you to be. Here’s how:
GGo to God and talk to Him in prayer every day.
(Read John 15:7)
RRead your Bible everyday, beginning with the book
of John. (Read Acts 17:11)
O Obey God all day and every day. (Read John 14:21)
WWitness for Jesus by telling others He loves them
and wants to come into their hearts too.
(Read Matthew 4:19 and John 15:8)
TTrust God and ask for His help concerning every
little and big thing in your life. (Read 1 Peter 5:7)
HHoly Spirit – allow God’s Holy Spirit to help you
obey God and live a life that’s pleasing to Him.
(Read John 14:26)

And…Go to church. God
tells us in the Bible that we
should go to church regularly. Knowing other people
who love Jesus will help you
to grow in faith. If you can’t
go with your family, find
a friend or relative who

will take you.
It’s Important To Go To Church.
The Bible tells us that a child of God needs to
go to church. (Hebrews 10:25)
Have you ever watched a fire burning in a fireplace?
Several logs together burn brightly. But, what happens
to a log if you pull it out of the flames? It gets cold
and its fire goes out.
That’s like what happens in God’s family. When God’s
children spend time together, their love for Jesus burns
stronger. You can spend time with other Christians by
going to church. If you don’t belong
to a church, ask someone to help
you find one that teaches
about Jesus.
