AN AMAZING WAY OF LOOKING
Daniela Mejia's paintings are testimony to an amazing way of
looking. Faces, objects and landscapes come to the canvas without
concessions, perfect in form and highly detailed, thanks to an
impeccable technique, evoking the expert and delicate strokes of the
ancient Flemish. Mejia does not intend to express an inner vision, or
make a poetic interpretation of the world around her; it is evident that
in her way of looking at things, reality is more wonderful than any fantasy of a personal nature.
What is landscape without a human perception? Does landscape exist without an observer? Incorporating
people as part of her landscapes and the interaction of both become the central theme of Mejia's latest exhibit. In her
paintings she shows how human presence is so powerful that it becomes the focal point of her compositions. In this
new artistic series, landscape is no longer the main character; it is now the backdrop for human presence. In the end,
the artist concludes that landscape and people coexist, and give each other meaning.
Daniela Mejia is a painter and illustrator specializing in landscape. She has exhibited her work in galleries and
Museums in Colombia, including Beatriz Esguerra Art and the Museum of Modern Art in Bogota. Japan, Italy, and the
US have also seen her work exhibited.
