©Alejandra Platt-Torres ©Alejandra Platt-Torres And now the present is different. A new projects comes to my life… on September 11, 2001 the borders of United States start a new change… and that change becomes my next obsession: about what is happening in the border between the Republic of México and the United Sates of America… A WORLD SEPARATED BY BORDERS… 2009-2014 UN MUNDO SEPARADO POR FRONTERAS Another why in my daily life… every time that I was coming in to Tucson to shop, to visit my friends, to see photo exhibits, to take workshops in photography, to have fun with many of my friends I noticed that the border starts making a lot of changes… And my next journey begins in my mind… and between 2009 and 2010 a new project began; THE DIVERSITY OF IMMIGRATION. There are 44 different languages spoken in Tucson that are from many countries of the world and this people lives in this microcosmos... the city of Tucson… At the same time in 2010, new SB1070 law began a new difficult situation for our relations between United States and México… the border crossing of the migrants... And the project continues. I find more situations and more difficulties experienced by the migrants… And difficulties not only for migrants… also for the desert… the human repatriation, history of families, dreamers, new migratory reform and the ecological impact that these difficulties bring to our borders… That is why I divide my time between my hometown Hermosillo and Tucson. I am a third generation migrant from United States to México… that is another reason why I am here… Since I was a child I’ve come to Arizona with my parents and family going back and forth to see friends and to shop. For me coming to United States is normal. I do not think of borders in my world. But when I realized that is not the norm, I become involved. ©Alejandra Platt-Torres ! In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
