Children who have an involved father are more likely to
be emotionally secure, more confident, have better social
connections and greater career success. They are also less likely
to get in trouble at home, school or in the neighborhood. With
a little help, most fathers can be well equipped to provide the
love and care that children need to blossom and reach their full
potential.
In most cases, children thrive when they bond with their father
from a young age and know he is there to love them, guide
them and help them along life’s journey. Some men think that
this will happen naturally once their child is born. But the truth
is, parenting — for both moms and dads — takes work. It’s
natural that some parents may want or need assistance to help
them improve their parenting skills and give their child the best
possible start in life.
This guide, compiled by First 5 LA, is intended to help fathers and
male role models find the programs in Los Angeles County
that can help them do that. In the pages that follow, we’ve
outlined and briefly described a variety of organizations,
programs and services to assist you along your journey
through fatherhood:

About First 5 LA
First 5 LA oversees the L.A. County
allocation of funds from Proposition
10, which added a 50-cent tax
