Reaching Young Children through Art
Storytelling: A Workshop Series at the Yale University Art Gallery
Young children’s literacy development is closely linked to their visual experiences. Even as adults, when we
read and tell stories, we hold an image in our heads that illustrates all the story’s components. With the help
of picture books, young children begin to understand the concept and construction of story: a sequence of
events, characters and their interactions, and setting. All of these are critical foundations to early literacy
development.
Join us for two special evenings at the Yale University Art Gallery as we examine how the visual arts can also
help to develop storytelling with young children. Each session includes fun, hands-on activities.
Session 1: Thursday, April 23. Stories and Art
Session 2: Thursday, May 14. The Art of Storytelling
Both sessions run 5:45-7:45 pm at
Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street, New Haven 06510
These events are for adults ONLY. Please do not bring children. Light dinner will be provided.

Llegando a los Niños a través del Arte
Cuenta Cuentos: Una serie de talleres en la Yale University Art Gallery
El desarrollo de la lectoescritura en los niños pequeños se vincula de cerca con sus experiencias visuales. Incluso los
adultos, cuando leemos y contamos cuentos, mantenemos una imagen en la cabeza que ilustra todos los componentes
