Antonio qualified as a Spanish lawyer in 1999. He is a member of the Madrid Bar
Association and a partner at Avante. Before joining Avante, Antonio worked for
more than ten years for the Spanish law firm Uría Menéndez and for more than
four years for the English law firms Stephenson Harwood and DLA Piper. Likewise,
in 2010 and 2011, Antonio was a visiting lawyer with Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and
worked from their New York office.Antonio specialises in maritime and insurance
(both marine and non-marine) law. His practice covers transactional (e.g., M&A,
acquisition and financing of assets, etc.) and litigation/arbitration work within the
transport and insurance sectors. He also advises on the international sale of goods
and related financing, payment and insurance instruments.
Throughout his career, Antonio has handled marine casualties, disputes under
shipbuilding contracts, cargo claims under all types of transport agreements,
penalty and detentions proceedings brought by Spanish maritime authorities, ship
arrests, mortgage enforcement proceedings and all other type of proceedings
related to the maritime and transport activities. A substantial part of this worked is
referred to Antonio by foreign clients, mainly, shipowners and operators, international law firms, P&I Clubs and insurance companies.
Antonio's practice also extends, beyond the maritime and insurance sectors, to general
commercial litigation and to proceedings for the recognition and enforcement of
foreign judgements and arbitral awards in Spain.
Antonio is regularly recognised as a leading maritime and transport lawyer in
leading international legal publications and directories including the Chambers
