GOOD SEEDS
Today Jesus continues to speak to his followers
using parables. What a rich treasure we are
given today in three parables about the kingdom of heaven! The kingdom is likened to a
man sowing good seed in his field, a mustard
seed, and yeast mixed with flour. As they did last week,
today the disciples press Jesus for an interpretation of
one of the parables—the parable of the man sowing
good seed. Lest we think that these parables are simply
amusing little anecdotes, Jesus’ interpretation should be
seen for what it is—a warning. Wailing and grinding of
teeth in a fiery furnace await those who are children of
the evil one. This parable points to the struggle for today’s believer. Sometimes, through sin, we sow weeds
and prevent the love of Christ from blossoming. Let today’s Gospel help put us back on track. Let us recommit
ourselves to prepare for the last days, the harvest, by
blossoming as the good seeds we were created in love

BUENAS SEMILLAS
Hoy Jesús continua hablando en parábolas con
sus seguidores. ¡Qué rico tesoro nos regalan las
tres parábolas sobre el Reino de los cielos! El
Reino se parece: a un hombre que siembra
buena semilla en su campo, a una semilla de
mostaza y a la levadura que se mezcla en la harina. Al
igual que la semana pasada, hoy los discípulo piden que
Jesús les interprete una de las parábolas –la parábola
del hombre que siembra Buena semilla. Para que no
pensemos que estas parábolas son simples anécdotas
entretenidas, la interpretación de Jesús debe considerarse como lo que es –una advertencia. Llanto y desesperación esperan a los hijos del maligno. Esta parábola
señala la lucha del creyente de hoy. A veces, por el pecado, sembramos cizaña y evitamos que el amor de
Cristo florezca. Que el Evangelio de hoy nos ayude a retornar al buen camino. Comprometámonos a prepararnos para los días finales, para el tiempo de cosecha, floreciendo como buenas semillas creadas por el amor.

The American Red Cross has just issued an appeal for blood
donors due to a critical blood shortage across our nation.
Over the past three months, the Red Cross has responded to
more than 40 major disasters in over 30 states – delivering
help and hope to people affected by floods, tornadoes and
wildfires. But there’s another, more personal, kind of disaster
which can happen to any of us at any time if we need blood
and it’s not available.
All types are needed, but especially type O negative. Type
O-negative blood is the universal blood type. This means type
O negative blood can be transfused to anyone who needs
blood, regardless of their own blood type. Type O negative
blood may be used during emergencies, when there is no
time to cross-match a person’s blood type. That’s why it’s
especially important that people with type O
negative blood donate as frequently as they
can.
While it is a regular recurring event on our
parish’s calendar, the Blood Drive next Sunday, July 24th (hosted by the Ave Maria
Council of t he Knights of Columbus in collaboration with the American Red Cross) is very timely. The
drive will be from 8:00 AM through Noon in Nicholson Hall.
Members of the Knights will be at a table in the church vestibule this weekend after most of the Masses to solicit signups. You can also call during the week to make a reservation
with Timothy McClaughry @ 228-8875 (Work) or 327-8998
(Home) or our Parish Office @ 795-1633.
Low-gluten hosts are available
Debido a la crítica escasez de sangre en toda
la nación, la Cruz Roja Americana acaba de
iniciar una campaña para obtener donadores
de sangre. En los últimos tres meses, la
Cruz Roja ha respondido a más de 40 tremendos desastres en más de 30 estados –
entregando ayuda y esperanza a personas
afectadas por inundaciones, tornados e incendios forestales.
Pero existen otra clase de desastres, más personales, que
nos pueden suceder a cualquiera de nosotros, a cualquier
hora, si necesitamos sangre y ésta no está disponible.
Se necesitan de todos los tipos, pero especialmente el tipo
O negativo. La sangre tipo O negativo es el tipo de sangre
universal. Esto significa que la sangre tipo O negativo se
puede transferir a cualquier persona que necesite sangre, sin
importar su tipo de sangre. La sangre tipo O negativo se
puede usar durante emergencias, cuando no hay tiempo de
encontrar un tipo de sangre específico. Por eso es que es
especialmente importante que las personas con sangre tipo
O negativo, donen con tanta frecuencia como les sea posible.
Aunque este evento es normal en el calendario de la parroquia, la Campaña de Sangre del próximo domingo 24 de julio, (patrocinado por el Concejo Ave María de los Caballeros
de Colón, en colaboración con la Cruz Roja), está muy a
tiempo. La campaña se llevará a cabo en el Salón Nicholson
de 8:00 AM hasta el mediodía. Este fin de semana, los
miembros de los Caballeros de Colón estarán en la mesa del
vestíbulo de la iglesia después de la mayoría de las Misas,
para solicitar inscripciones. Ustedes también pueden llamar

People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley. This is
problematic for Catholics who have this disease
since in order for the bread that is used at Mass to
be a valid substance for the sacrament it must include wheat. In recent years, the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri (the
motherhouse of the Benedictine sisters here in Tucson) have developed a low-gluten host. Many who
suffer from this disease have been able to consume these
hosts without any ill effects. These altar breads have been
approved by the Vatican as meeting the standards required
for the host to be considered valid substance for the sacrament.
If you suffer from celiac disease, and would like to be
able to received the Body of Christ at communion, please let
us know in the Parish Office. If there is a need in our parish,
we will make the necessary arrangements to make reception
of the communion under this species available to you.

Esto es problemático para católicos que lo padecen,
pues para que el sacramento sea de una substancia

Comportamiento en Misa
Being at table with family and friends is often a cherished
time together, and one that may not happen as often as in
the past due to busy schedules. However, planning one’s
schedule so as to allow sufficient time to be at the Table of
The Lord should be a priority in a Catholic Christian’s life.
El estar a la mesa reunidos con familia y amigos, a menudo
es un tiempo muy preciado, y un evento que por falta de
tiempo, puede no suceder tan seguido como en el pasado.
Sin embargo, en la vida de un Católico Cristiano, el planear
un horario que permita tiempo suficiente para estar a la Mesa
del Señor, debería ser una prioridad. Sabemos que a veces,
nuestro horario se sale de control y uno necesita salir de Misa
antes de que esta termine; pero esto debería de ser una excepción, y no una costumbre. Sin embargo, cuando nos paramos por fuera de la iglesia, uno rápidamente se da cuenta
que algunos Católicos usan regularmente el siguiente patrón
para la Procesión a Comulgar – caminan hacia el altar para
comulgar y de allí se salen de Misa. (Esto equivale a dejar la
cena familiar antes de que todos hayan terminado de comer
– lo cual es de muy mala educación.) Nuestra devoción hacia
el Señor no termina hasta que el sacerdote despide a la
Asamblea y le otorga la bendición final. Nosotros debemos
demostrar al Señor, que nos recibe en el banquete Eucarístico, el respeto apropiado, planeando nuestro tiempo de modo
que nos permita permanecer con Él y su congregación, hasta
que la Misa se de por terminada.
Leaving Mass
Sometimes, admittedly, our schedule is beyond our control
and one needs to leave Mass before it is ended. But this
should be an exception and not the norm. Yet, when one
stands outside if church, one quickly recognizes that some
Catholics regularly use the following pattern for the Communion Procession - walking up to the altar for communion and
then out the door. (This is equivalent to leaving the family
dinner table before everyone has finished eating - which is
poor etiquette.) Our worship of the Lord does not end until
the priests sends the assembly forth with the final blessing
and dismissal. May we all show the Lord, who is our host at
the Eucharistic banquet, appropriate respect by planning our
timing so as to allow ourselves to remain with Him and his
People until the Mass is the ended.
To have a baby baptized at St. Cyril Parish
In our parish, the baptism of an infant or young child
(up to the age of 7 years old) is celebrated monthly
(except during Advent & Lent). The sacrament is celebrated in English on a designated Sunday at 3:00 PM
or in Spanish on a designated Saturday at 12:00 PM.
Periodically during the Liturgical Year, baptisms may
be celebrated at a Sunday Mass.
Prior to the celebration, parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Series which is only offered 5
times each year and not just prior to a celebration of baptism.
Thus, parents need to prepare ahead of time, making plans to
attend the preparation sessions in a timely manner (even during the pregnancy). The preparation series are held on Sundays from 9:15 to 10:45 AM. The following are the dates for
these preparation sessions this fall.
August - No Sessions
September 11th, 18th, 25th
October- No Sessions
November 6th, 13th, 20th
December - No Sessions

Bautizo de Infantes en la Parroquia
de San Cirilo de Alejandria
En nuestra parroquia, el bautizo de un bebé o de un niño
(hasta de 7 años de edad), se celebra mensualmente
(con excepción de las épocas de Adviento y Cuaresma).
El sacramento se celebra en español en un sábado determinado a las 12:00 PM o en inglés en un domingo determinado a las 3:00 PM. En ocasiones, durante el año litúrgico, los bautizos se pueden celebrar durante la misa del
domingo.
Antes de dicha celebración, se requiere que los padres asistan a una Serie de reuniones de Preparación para el Bautizo
que se ofrecen 5 veces al año. Por lo tanto, los padres necesitan prepararse con anticipación, planeando asistir a tiempo a
las sesiones de preparación (aún durante el embarazo). Las
series de preparación se efectúan los martes de 6:00 a 8:00
PM. En este otoño, las sesiones de preparación serán en las
siguientes fechas:
Agosto - no pláticas
6, 13, 20 de septiembre
Octubre - no pláticas
