From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our second reading at Mass today from chapter 13 of St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians is probably one of the best known or most popular texts of Scripture. It is a beautiful description of love. But, it
is also a demanding description. God wants us to love one another the way that He has loved us in His
Son Jesus. This is what defines us as Christians and we cannot just admire this reading, we have to
live it. We need to take this text and ask ourselves if we are fulfilling it. Let’s reread it and substitute the
word love with “I”.
I am patient, I am kind. I do not envy, I do not boast, I am not proud. I do not dishonor others, I am not self-seeking, I am not easily angered, I keep no record of wrongs. I do not delight in evil but rejoice with the truth. I always protect, always trust, always hope, always
persevere. I never fail.
From time to time we should do this as an examination of our lives to see if we are living up to the
name we bear as Christians. Let’s all strive to be the best Christians we can be by truly loving as we
are called to do.

Estimados Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
La segunda lectura de la Misa de hoy tomada del capítulo 13 de la primera carta de San Pablo a los
Coríntios es probablemente uno de los textos más conocidos de la Sagrada Escritura. Es una
descripción preciosa del amor pero también es una descripción exigente. Dios quiere que nos amemos
como él nos ha amado en su Hijo Jesús. Esto es lo que nos define como Cristianos y no podemos
simplemente admirar este texto, sino que tenemos que vivirlo. Vamos a leerlo de nuevo pero
cambiando la palabra amor por la palabra yo.
Yo soy paciente, yo soy benigno; yo no tengo envidia, yo no soy jactancioso, no me
envanezco; no hago nada indebido, no busco lo mio, no me irrito, no guardo rencor; no me
gozo de la injusticia, mas me gozo de la verdad. Todo lo sufro, todo lo creo, todo lo espero,
todo lo soporto. Nunca falto.
De vez en cuando debemos hacer esto como un examen de nuestra vida para ver si estamos viviendo
según el nombre que llevamos como cristianos. Intentemos ser lo mejor que podamos para amar de
verdad como debemos.

Next weekend is the annual Charity and Development Appeal. The CDA plays an important role in supporting
and nurturing the faith of all those in our Diocese. The CDA is
love and faith in action. A gift of $120 or $12 per month can help
feed a family of 4 for a week and provide an expectant mother a
first look at her baby through an ultrasound. The impact of your
gift can reach more people through CDA. Help support the more
than 70 programs and organizations across the Diocese. With
your gift to the CDA, you heed the Pope’s call to be an instrument of God’s mercy. More information can be found at

Mercy” then by joining the Covenant of Love Core
