Journalist and editor Guillermo Altares wil call upon of his experience as the editor of
“Babelia”, the high-profile weekly cultural supplement of Spain’s major daily EL PAÍS, to
offer an insight into the role that such supplements play in promoting, defining,
exposing and criticising the arts – and its exponents – in Spanish society today.

Guillermo Altares (Madrid, 1968) is currently the editor of elpais.com and is in charge of the integration between the digital
newsroom and the paper newsroom of EL PAÍS. From 2007-2010 he was the editor of “Babelia. Prior to this, he spent six years
working in the International section as a correspondent and expert on Europe, covering a number of wars and travelling
widely in Western and Central Europe and in the Balkans. He is the author of Esto es un infierno. Los personajes del cine bélico
(Alianza Editorial), and a member of staff in the School of Journalism of EL PAÍS/UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid).
Guillermo Altares will also be participating in a collaborative event on the topic “War, Politics and the Media”
on 9 Sept at 5.30pm at RMIT, Swanston St, Building 8, Level 11 Lecture theatre 68.
