Abstract
A French research centre, with expertise of diabete treatment, is looking for SMEs partners with experience in the field of coagulation and antithrombotic
blood factors, Low Molecular Weight Heparins (LMWH) for a EuroTransBio (ETB) project. The objective is to develop a system allowing the oral
administration of Heparin, based on the experiences acquired in the development of oral insulin and the know-how of in vitro and in vivo models to
evaluate drugs biodisponibility and toxicity.
Description
Heparin is a highly prescribed anticoagulant, largely used in clinical practice. Low Molecular Weight Heparins (LMWH) have been developed to reduce
haemorrhagic complications. Unfortunately, up to now, Heparin and LMWH can only be delivered via the parenteral way.
The objective of the project is as such, to develop a system to deliver LMWH orally. The new designed vector would reduce healthcare cost and improve
patients’ compliance.
Today, the research centre has accumulated more than 10 years years of experience in the development of oral insulin and is in a pre-industrialisation
step. They have also developed animal models to deal with functionality and toxicity analysis. In vitro models have been developed as well in order to
gather references data before going to in vivo studies and so comply with the animal welfare requirements.
The objective of the project is to transfer the knowledge acquired in the field of diabetes in another health area.
Target partner expertise sought:

their experience in biodisponibility and functionality of anticoagulant drugs.
