ABOUT THE SHOALHAVEN, NSW, AUSTRALIA
THE RACE
The AR World Championship 2016, hosted by the XPD Expedition Race,
will take teams representing over 30 countries on a 600km journey
through the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
The winning team is estimated to complete the non stop, unsupported
course of trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and navigation in 4.5
days. The event will be a straight out linear race, no mandatory stops,
no dark zones, no optional controls - pure adventure racing at it’s best!
Dates will be set for mid November 2016.
WHO CAN ENTER?
It has been a long tradition of Adventure Racing that elite and novice
teams race shoulder to shoulder on the same course and this will be
embraced by the ARWC 2016. The course will remain open for 8 days,
with only one short course option at the end of the race, giving most
teams the opportunity to finish.
Entries open on 24th of February 2016. 30 Qualifying spots for the
ARWS, 40 spots allocated on a first in first, 10 spots for special interest
teams. Entry fee is $7,990 AUD (approx $5,700 USD/ 5,000 Euro). Entries
are expected to sell out quickly.

The Shoalhaven is a dream
playground for an adventure racer.
A staggering 70% of the region is
national park or native forest. There
are over 19 major water catchments
including rivers, bays and lakes.
Scattered along 165kms of coast line
are 109 pristine beaches.
Jervis Bay in the Shoalhaven is home
to the whitest beach in the world and
its clear turquoise waters are amongst
the most beautiful in the country.
In November Jervis Bay is one of the
best places to witness the majestic
humpback whales on their annual
migration as they take time out to rest
and play with their calves in the calm
waters.
The Shoalhaven is teeming with iconic
Australian wildlife. From kangaroos
on the beach to wombats in the forests
- you are guaranteed to encounter
these famous creatures.
Back from the coast is the grand
Morton National Park, which is one of
the largest national parks in NSW. It
is a spectacular wilderness labyrinth
of sandstone cliffs, canyons and
beautiful natural forest.
Nowra, the largest town in the region,
is a world renowned rock climbing
mecca and home to some of the
countries toughest sport climbs.
The weather should be ideal for the
event with average daily minimum
temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius
and average maximums of 24 degrees.
Be sure to sample the regions local
food and wine including freshly
shucked Sydney Rock oysters and dine
in award-winning restaurants such as
Bannisters in Mollymook and Cupitt’s
Kitchen.

up with a local volunteer. They will
be ready to help you with those tasks
which can be difficult in a new country
such as shopping for race food and
finding that last minute piece of
equipment.

AIRPORT TRANSFER.
There will be an optional transfer for
international teams from the Sydney
International Airport to the Event
Headquarters in the Shoalhaven.
International teams may also choose
to hire a car and drive themselves the 2
hours along the scenic coast road to the
event.

LA CARRERA
En el Campeonato Mundial de Aventura 2016, organizado por la XPD Expedition Race, participarán equipos
en representación de más de 30 países en un viaje de 600 km a través de la región de Shoalhaven, Nueva
Gales del Sur (NGS), Australia. Se estima que el equipo ganador realizará un recorrido sin paradas ni
ayuda combinando trekking, mountain bike, kayak y navegación en 4,5 días. El evento consiste en una
carrera en línea recta, sin paradas obligatorias, ni zonas vetadas, ni controles opcionales... ¡aventura en
estado puro! Está programado que se celebre a mediados de noviembre de 2016.
¿QUIÉN PUEDE INSCRIBIRSE?
Es una tradición que en el Mundial de Aventura los equipos de élite y los novatos compitan hombro con
hombro en la misma carrera, y así se hará también en el Mundial de Aventura 2016. La competición
permanecerá abierta durante 8 días, y solo existirá la opción de un recorrido más corto al final de la carrera,
lo que dará a la mayoría de equipos la posibilidad de terminarla.
Inscripciones abiertas a partir del 24 de febrero de 2016. 30 puestos clasificatorios para el Mundial de
Aventura, 40 puestos asignados por orden de inscripción, 10 plazas para equipos con un interés
especial. Precio de inscripción de 7 990 AUD (aprox. 5 700 USD /5 000 euros). Se espera que las

Shoalhaven es un terreno de juegos de ensueño para un competidor de aventura. Un sorprendente 70
% de la región es parque nacional o bosque virgen. Hay más de 19 importantes puntos de agua,
incluyendo ríos, bahías y lagos. Tenemos 109 prístinas playas repartidas a lo largo de 165 km de costa.
La Bahía de Jervis, en Shoalhaven, alberga la playa de arenas más blancas del mundo y sus aguas
transparentes de color turquesa están entre las más bellas del país.
En noviembre, la Bahía de Jervis es uno de los mejores lugares para observar a las majestuosas
ballenas jorobadas en su migración anual, ya que descansan y juegan con sus crías en sus aguas
tranquilas.
Shoalhaven cuenta con buena parte de la fauna australiana más emblemática. Desde canguros en la playa
a wombats en los bosques... te garantizamos que aquí encontrarás todas estas famosas especies. Algo
apartado de la costa está el gran Parque Nacional de Morton, que es uno de los más grandes de Nueva
Gales de Sur. Se trata de un espectacular laberinto natural formado por paredes de arenisca, cañones y
bellos bosques naturales.
Nowra, la ciudad más importante de la región, es una meca de la escalada conocida mundialmente y
alberga algunas de las rutas de escalada deportiva más duras del país.
El tiempo seguramente será ideal para la carrera, con temperaturas mínimas de unos 15 grados y máximas
de unos 24.
No olvides probar la comida local y el vino de la región, incluyendo las ostras frescas de Sydney Rock, y
comer en restaurantes que han sido premiados como Bannisters, en Mollymook, y Cupitt's Kitchen.
CÓMO LLEGAR
AVIÓN Los equipos pueden llegar en avión al Aeropuerto Internacional de Sídney. Hay vuelos diarios
desde todos los lugares del mundo.
CARRETERA Shoalhaven está a 2 horas por carretera al sur de Sídney. Puedes tomar el
