Bienvenidos a la primera edición de Son
Gual Golf Magazine, una revista que tiene por objetivo dar a conocer más a fondo
nuestro club de golf, del que todos nos sentimos tan orgullosos.
Es cierto que en muy poco tiempo Son Gual
se ha establecido claramente como el destino número de golf en Mallorca. Con unos
estándares de calidad al nivel de los mejores (estar dentro del Top 100 europeo nos
“obliga” a ello), la exigencia de nuestros
miembros hace que siempre estemos enfocados en ofrecer los mejores servicios,
tanto en el cuidado del campo como en el
resto de instalaciones: clubhouse, proshop,
campo de prácticas, restaurante, etc.
También los torneos en los que participan
miembros y diferentes patrocinadores son
una seña de identidad de Son Gual, combinando deporte y diversión con relaciones
públicas y agradables fiestas.
En el primer número de nuestra publicación el lector podrá conocer a través de las
palabras del fundador, Adam Pamer, los
inicios del proyecto y las claves del éxito
de Son Gual; informarse sobre los torneos
más relevantes acontecidos esta temporada; conocer a algunos de los profesionales
que trabajan en Son Gual; saber un poco
más acerca de la maravillosa isla de Mallorca; y, desde luego, información para llegar a
formar parte del selecto club de Miembros
de Son Gual.
Deseo que la lectura de esta revista, ya sea
Miembro de Son Gual, futuro Miembro o
sencillamente aficionado al golf, concite
su interés. Esta es nuestra intención que
a buen seguro iremos mejorando número
a número, siempre con la ayuda de sus comentarios y contribuciones.
Welcome to the first issue of the Son Gual
Golf Magazine, a publication that aims to
enable people to get to know our golf club,
which we are all extremely proud of, better.
It is true that Son Gual has clearly established itself as the number one golf destination on Mallorca in a very short space
of time. With standards of quality on a
par with the very best (being amongst the
Top 100 in Europe “forces” us to maintain
them), the exigency of our members means
we always centre on offering the best services, both in terms of care of the course
and with regard to the rest of the facilities
- clubhouse, pro shop, practice course, restaurant, etc.
And the tournaments, in which members
and different sponsors take part, are also a
seal of the identity of Son Gual, combining
sport and entertainment with public relations and delightful parties.
In this first issue of the magazine readers
will be able to find out about the beginnings of the project and the keys to the
success of Son Gual, through the words of
the founder, Adam Pamer. They will also be
able to learn about the most relevant tournaments that have taken place this season;
meet some of the professionals who work
at Son Gual; discover a little more about the
wonderful island of Mallorca; and, naturally, obtain information on how to form part
of the select club of Members of Son Gual.
I sincerely hope that reading this magazine arouses your interest, whether you are a
member of Son Gual already, a future member, or simply a golf enthusiast. This is our
aim, and we are certain we will manage to
improve with every issue, always with the
help of your observations and contributions.
Herzlich Willkommen zu ersten Ausgabe des Son Gual Golf Magazine! Mit dieser Zeitschrift wollen wir unseren Club,
auf den wir alle sehr stolz sind, detailliert
vorstellen.
Der Platz Son Gual hat sich innerhalb
kürzester Zeit zur beliebtesten Golf-Reisedestination Mallorcas entwickelt. Uns
zeichnen höchste Qualitätstandards aus,
schließlich gehört Son Gual zu den Top
100 Europas und diese Ehre verpflichtet.
Um den Anforderungen unserer Mitglieder gerecht zu werden, sind wir stets um
besten Service sowohl auf dem Platz als
auch in den Einrichtungen des Golfclubs
(Clubhouse, Geschäft, Übungsplatz, Restaurant) bemüht.
Ein weiteres Merkmal der Identität von Son
Gual sind die Turniere, an denen Mitglieder und zahlreiche Sponsoren teilnehmen;

Gual arbeiten. Informationen zur wunderschönen Insel Mallorca und natürlich rund

Ich hoffe, die Lektüre dieses Magazins ist für
Sie, egal ob als Mitglied, künftiges Mitglied
oder Golffan, interessant und unterhaltsam.

¿Cúal es el principio de la historia de
Son Gual, cómo y cuándo decidió construir el campo?
Decidí construir mi propio campo de golf
en 1995, cuando Mallorca era muy popular
como destino turístico para los amantes del
golf. Entonces todos los campos estaban
siempre al completo de jugadores invitados
de toda Europa. También fui miembro de
varios clubes de golf en Mallorca, pero no
estaba contento al pagar un elevado precio
por la tarifa de miembro, y encima no podía
jugar en temporada alta ya que el club quería tener ingresos de los jugadores greenfee,
además de la cuota de los miembros. Yo creo
que se debe tratar de manera especial a los
miembros de un club. Aparte, la calidad de
los campos de golf de aquí tampoco era muy
satisfactoria, así que pensé que no podía ser
muy complicado hacerlo mejor.
¿Por qué Mallorca?
Mallorca es para mí es uno de los lugares
más bellos de Europa. El clima mediterráneo, 300 días de sol, el mar, las montañas
y todas las posibilidades que tiene esta
pequeña isla. También un punto fuerte son
las conexiones de vuelos cada día desde el
aeropuerto de Palma a todos los destinos
importantes en Europa.
Usted vive en Mallorca. ¿Qué es lo que
más le gusta de la isla y qué le gusta hacer cuando está aquí?
La razón principal por la que me gusta vivir
en Mallorca es el clima y la buena comida
internacional que se puede encontrar aquí.
En cuanto a lo que me más me gusta hacer:
jugar al golf en mi propio campo.
¿Cuáles fueron sus objetivos a la hora de
construir Son Gual Golf?
Siempre quise tener el campo de mejor calidad de golf. Hemos invertido una enorme
cantidad de dinero para ofrecer a nuestros
clientes lo mejor que puede conseguir en
Europa. Quería construir una cancha de
How did the Son Gual story begin; when
and how did you decide to build the
course?
I decided to build my own golf course in
1995, when Mallorca had become extremely popular as a tourist destination for
golf fans. At the time all the courses were
always full of guest players from all over
Europe. I was a member of several golf
clubs on Mallorca, but I wasn’t happy about
paying a high membership fee and then not
being able to play in peak season because
the club wanted the income from greenfee
players as well as the members’ fees. I feel
that the members of a club should be given
special treatment. As well as this, the quality of the golf courses here was not very
satisfactory, so I thought it wouldn’t be too
difficult to do things better.
Why Mallorca?
For me Mallorca is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. The Mediterranean
climate, 300 days of sun a year, the sea,
the mountains and all the possibilities this
small island has to offer. Another strong
point is the daily flight connections from
Palma airport to all the important destinations in Europe.
You live on Mallorca. What do you like
most about the island and what do you
like to do when you are here?
The main reason I love living on Mallorca is
the climate and the good international food
you can find here. As for what I like to do
best: play golf on my own course.
What were your goals when you constructed Son Gual Golf?
I always wanted to have the course with
the best quality golf. We have invested a
huge amount of money to offer our clients
the best there is available in Europe. I wanted to build a championship course, where
everyone could play in conditions of perfect maintenance.
Erzählen Sie uns von den Anfängen von
Son Gual, wann haben Sie sich für den
Bau entschieden?
Die Entscheidung für den Bau eines eigenen Golfplatzes fiel 1995, als Mallorca als
Reiseziel unter Golfern immer beliebter
wurde. Sämtliche Golfplätze waren von
den europäischen Gästen ausgebucht. Ich
war Mitglied in verschiedenen Clubs auf
der Insel, aber ich mochte nicht die hohen
Beiträge zahlen und dann in der Hochsaison nicht spielen können, weil die Clubs
nicht auf die Einkünfte durch die Greenfee-Spieler verzichten wollten. Ich glaube,
die Mitglieder eines Clubs verdienen eine
besondere Betreuung. Auch hat mich die
Qualität der Plätze nicht zufriedengestellt
und so kam ich zu dem Schluss, dass es ja
nicht so schwer sein könnte, es besser zu
machen.
Warum Mallorca?
Für mich ist die Insel einer der schönsten
Orte Europas. Das mediterrane Klima, 300
Sonnentage pro Jahr, das Meer, die Berge
und all die Möglichkeiten, die Mallorca bietet. Ein weiterer Vorteil sind die täglichen
exzellenten Flugverbindungen von Palma
zu den wichtigsten Zielen Europas.
Sie leben auf Mallorca. Was gefällt Ihnen
am meisten an der Insel, was tun Sie am
liebsten, wenn Sie hier sind?
An Mallorca schätze ich das Klima und die
gute internationale Küche, die man hier
findet. Was ich am liebsten mache? Natürlich Golf spielen auf meinem eigenen
Platz!
Mit welchem Ziel haben Sie den Golfclub
Son Gual gebaut?
Ich wollte den besten Golfplatz haben. Deswegen haben wir viel investiert, um unseren Kunden das Beste zu bieten, was es in
Europa gibt. Ich wollte einen Platz bauen,
auf dem jeder unter perfekten Bedingungen spielen kann.

Como jugador, ¿qué le hace disfrutar
más cuando juega en Son Gual?
Un punto que hace Son Gual más atractivo
que los demás es la calidad y el tamaño de
nuestros greens. No se pueden encontrar
muchos campos como éste, en unas condiciones tan perfectas. También el diseño de
los hoyos, todos son diferentes, pero cada
uno de ellos supone un enorme reto.
¿Cómo se siente al estar en el Top 100 de
los mejores campos de golf de Europa?
Bueno, este era el objetivo mínimo en el que
nos centramos desde el primer momento.
Estamos muy orgullosos de que los comités
independientes lo confirmen. Nuestra misión es mejorar cada año para seguir estando lo más arriba en el Top 100 de Europa.
Además de campo de golf, ¿qué es lo que
más le gusta de Son Gual?
Me encanta ver crecer nuestros propios viñedos, y estoy deseando ya este mismo año
ofrecer a nuestros clientes el primer vino
Son Gual en nuestro restaurante. También
me encanta sentarme en nuestra terraza y
disfrutar de las vistas de la bahía de Palma.
Por último, ¿Cuáles son tus objetivos en
el corto-medio plazo?
En su día pensamos en instalar un pequeño hotel en el interior del antiguo palacio
de Son Gual, que pudiera ser utilizado por
clientes de golf y también por los miembros de Son Gual. En estos momentos estamos planeando un campo de seis hoyos
para el juego corto al lado de nuestro campo de prácticas.
As a player, what do you enjoy most
about playing on Son Gual?
One factor that makes Son Gual more attractive than the rest is the quality and size
of our greens. There aren’t many courses
like this, in such perfect conditions. And
the design of the holes, too; they’re all different, but each one of them implies a
huge challenge.
How do you feel about being in the Top
100 best golf courses in Europe?
Well, this was the minimum goal we set
our sights on from the very first moment.
We are very proud that the independent
committees have confirmed it. Our mission is to improve every year in order to
continue rising further up in the European
Top 100.
Besides the golf course, what do you like
best about Son Gual?
I love watching our own vines grow, and
I can’t wait to offer our guests the first
Son Gual wine in our restaurant as early
as this year. And of course I love to sit on
our terrace and enjoy the views of the bay
of Palma.
Finally, what are your goals for the short
and medium term?
When the time is right we intend to install
a small hotel inside the former Son Gual palace, which could be used by golfing customers and by the members of Son Gual, too.
But this is only one idea amongst many.
There are no serious short and medium
term plans for the palace. At the moment
we are planning a six-hole course for short
games beside our practice course, in order
to improve the training area.

Was reizt Sie als Spieler, wenn Sie auf
Son Gual spielen?
Was Son Gual so attraktiv im Vergleich
mit anderen Plätzen macht, sind die Qualitätsstandards und die Größe der Greens.
Man findet nicht so leicht einen Platz wie
Son Gual, der durch seine Perfektion besticht. Und erst das Design der Löcher, jedes
Loch ist anders, jedes eine große Herausforderung.
Was bedeutet es für Sie, zu den Top 100
der Golfplätze Europas zu gehören?
Das war unser mindestes Ziel und wir haben
seit dem ersten Augenblick daran gearbeitet. Wir sind stolz darauf, dass die unabhängige Jury uns darin bestätigt hat. Wir wollen
von Jahr zu Jahr besser werden und einen
Spitzenplatz in den Top 100 erreichen.
Was gefällt Ihnen an Son Gual noch,
außer dem Golfplatz?
Es ist schön, unseren eigenen Wein wachsen zu sehen und ich hoffe, wir können
noch in diesem Jahr unseren Mitgliedern
und Gästen im Clubrestaurant unseren ersten Son Gual Wein anbieten. Ich genieße es
auch, auf der Clubterrasse zu sitzen und
über die Bucht von Palma zu schauen.
Letzte Frage: Was haben Sie in der nächsten Zeit geplant?
Wir denken darüber nach, das alte Herrenhaus auf Son Gual zu einem kleinen Hotel
für Mitglieder und Gäste umzubauen. Das
ist nur eine Idee von vielen, aber es gibt
kurz- oder mittelfrstig keine ernsthaften
Pläne für das Projekt. Derzeit planen wir
den Bau eines Sechs-Loch-Platzes neben
unserem Übungsplatz. Damit soll der Trainingsbereich weiter verbessert werden.

En este primer número de la revista queremos recordar el que sin duda
fue uno de los principales eventos de golf en España el pasado año. El Golf
Son Gual fue el escenario del Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open, celebrado entre los
días 6 y 10 de mayo. Una cita que reunió a los mejores jugadores de este circuito
de ilustres veteranos, entre ellos Mark James, Sam Torrance e Ian Woosnam.
El triunfo final fue para el inglés Mark James, que venció al irlandés Eamonn
Darcy en el tercer hoyo de desempate del hoyo 18, en un final emocionantísimo que puso la guinda a una competición y a unas jornadas fantásticas.
Del alto nivel de los jugadores da fe el hecho que ambos finalistas participaron en la Ryder Cup de 1977 y 1981. Además James capitaneó al equipo
europeo de la Ryder en el Country Club de Brookline, Massachusetts.
Sendos finalistas sumaron 206 golpes, Mark James con vueltas de 70+70+66
y Eamonn Darcy con 71+70+65. En el tercer hoyo de desempate, Mark James ejecutó un tercer golpe que dejó la bola a 5 metros del hoyo. El birdie
posterior le valió para alzarse con el triunfo, el primero para él desde septiembre de 2005, que le valió un premio de 45.000 euros, además de pasar
a encabezar la Orden de Mérito del Tour Senior.
Todos los jugadores, acompañantes y demás personas que pasaron por Son
Gual Golf quedaron maravillados del campo y de las instalaciones, con el
deseo de regresar muy pronto a disfrutar de su exclusivo recorrido.

In this first issue of the magazine, we would like to remind you of what
was without doubt one of the main golfing events in Spain last year. Golf
Son Gual was the venue for the Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open, held from 6th
to 10th May. An event that brought together the best players on this circuit of
illustrious veterans, including Mark James, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam
The ultimate victory went to Englishman Mark James, who beat Irishman
Eamonn Darcy on the third tie-breaking hole, number 18, in a thrilling final
that was the cherry on top of a fantastic competition and a wonderful few
days. The high level of the players is confirmed by the fact that both finalists
took part in the Ryder Cup in 1977 and 1981. And James was captain of the
European Ryder team in the Brookline Country Club in Massachusetts.
Between them the two finalists hit 206 strokes, Mark James with rounds of
70+70+66 and Eamonn Darcy with 71+70+65. On the third tie-breaking hole,
Mark James hit a third stoke that left the ball 5 metres from the hole. His subsequent birdie enabled him to claim victory since September 2005, earning
him a prize of 45,000 Euros, as well as the honour of heading the Order of
Merit of the Senior Tour.
All the players, those accompanying them and other people who went to Son
Gual Golf were delighted with the course and the installations, and were left
with the hope of returning to enjoy its exclusive fairways very soon.
In der ersten Ausgabe dieser Zeitschrift möchten wir an ein Golfturnier
erinnern, das im vergangenen Jahr zweifelsohne zu den bedeutendsten
Wettstreiten Spaniens im Golfsport gehörte. Vom 6. bis 10. Mai war der Golfclub Son Gual Gastgeber der Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open, das mit berühmten
Golffüchsen wie Mark James, Sam Torrance oder Ian Woosnam aufwartete.
Der Brite Mark James besiegte seinen irischen Gegenspieler Eamonn Darcy
beim Stechen im dritten Loch der 18 Löcher, ein Finale, das die Stimmung in
diesem phantastischen Turnier wahrlich zum Brodeln brachte. Beide ehemalige
Spieler hatten 1977 und 1981 am Ryders Cup teilgenommen. James war später
Kapitän des Ryder-Europateams im Country Club Brookline, Massachusetts.
Beide Finalisten hatten je 206 Schläge für sich verbucht (Mark James:
70+70+66; Eamonn Darcy: 71+70+65). Beim Stechen im dritten Loch schlug
Mark James den Ball fünf Meter vor das Loch, der anschließende Birdie verhalf ihm zum Triumph, sein erster seit September 2005, der ihm ein Preisgeld
von 45.000 Euro einbrachte und außerdem den Ehrenorden der Senior-Tour.
Alle Teilnehmer und Besucher zeigten sich äußerst beeindruckt von den
Anlagen auf dem Golfplatz Son Gual und versprachen einmütig bald wiederzukommen, um auf dem exklusiven Platz zu spielen.

Pinmar
Pinmar, una de las compañías de pintura para yates
más importantes del mundo, celebró a principios de
mayo en el Golf de Son Gual un torneo en en el que
el buen ambiente fue la nota predominante. En el mismo
participaron clientes, invitados y socios de Pinmar, así
como también del musical de Hollywood “Come fly with
me”, todos ellos jugadores aficionados adscritos a la Federación Española de Golf.
Este torneo ha sido el aperitivo del que sin duda será uno
de los eventos más importantes del año, y que Pinmar celebra desde hace 22 años: su torneo anual que este año se
celebra en Son Gual entre el 21 y el 22 de octubre, y que
atrae a clientes de Pinmar y personas relacionadas con la
náutica desde todas partes del mundo. En total participarán 88 equipos formados por cuatro personas cada uno.
Habrá premios tan espectaculares como el regalo de un
Audi para el que haga un hoyo en un solo golpe. 100 voluntarios y 80 patrocinadores dan idea de lo que significa
este torneo, que se cierra con una cena de gala y subasta.
Todo el dinero recaudado durante los días de celebración
del torneo se destina a obras de caridad.

a tournament in Golf de Son Gual in which the good
atmosphere that reigned was the predominant factor.
Clients, guests and members of Pinmar took part, as well
as members of the Hollywood musical “Come fly with

This tournament was the appetizer for what will doubtless
be one of the most important events of the autumn, and
one which Pinmar has been holding for 22 years now: its
annual tournament due to be held in Son Gual from 21st to
22rd October this year, drawing Pinmar clients and people
related to the nautical industry from all over the world. A
total of 88 teams will take part, comprised of four people
each. The prizes will be spectacular, such as an Audi for the
player who gets a hole in one. 100 volunteers and 80 sponsors give an idea of what this tournament, which ends with
a gala dinner and auction, means. All the money raised over
the days when the tournament is held is donated to charity.

Anfang Mai auf dem Golfplatz Son Gual. An dem Event
nahmen Kunden, Gäste und Partner der im Yachtsektor
tätigen Firma teil. Anwesend waren auch Vertreter und
Gäste des Hollywooder Musicals „Come fly with me“.
Das Turnier war zweifelsohne ein würdiger Auftakt zum
prestigeträchtigen Jahresturnier, das die Unternehmensgruppe seit 22 Jahren im Herbst abhält und das Kunden
und Besucher aus der ganzen Welt anzieht. In diesem
Jahr findet das PINMAR-Herbstturnier findet am 21. +
22. Oktober auf dem Golfplatz Son Gual statt, mit allen
Zutaten, die einem Wettstreit der Extraklasse gebühren:
88 Mannschaften zu je vier Spielern werden teilnehmen.
Wer es schafft, ein Hole-In-One zu spielen, kann einen
AUDI gewinnen. Rund 80 Sponsoren haben ihr Kommen
zugesagt, 100 freiwillige Helfer werden sich um die Organisation kümmern.
Traditionell wird das Turnier mit einem Galadinner und

y el Golf Son Gual se unieron por segundo año consecutivo
para celebrar, el 29 de mayo, uno de los torneos más distinguidos y afamados, el Torneo Rolex Golf. Entre los participantes
se encontraban muchos de los clientes de la Relojería Alemana y de Rolex, además de público general, aspirantes al trofeo
para el ganador absoluto, un reloj Rolex. Para el ganador strach se concedió un reloj Tudor, y para los primeros clasificados
una serie de premios interesantes relacionados con el equipo
de golf, además de premios especiales como cenas en exquisitos restaurantes de la isla y distintos detalles de Relojería
Alemana. Los premios fueron concedidos directamente por la
familia Fuster, propietaria de la Relojería Alemana. Al acabar
el torneo y para ir abriendo boca, se recibió a los jugadores
con una copa de Moët&Chandon y un apetitoso cocktail para
pasar después a la barra Beefeater especialmente organizada
para los asistentes.
La marca Rolex lleva años apostando por este deporte y la Relojería Alemana está muy vinculada al entorno del golf, por ello, y
después del éxito conseguido cada vez que se ha celebrado el torneo, es muy probable que el año siguiente los amantes de dicho
deporte puedan disfrutar de tan señalado evento.
The prestigious Relojería Alemana, the famous brand Rolex
and Golf Son Gual joined forces for the second consecutive
year to hold one of the most distinguished and reputed tournaments, the Rolex Golf Tournament, on 29th May. Those participating included many of the customers of the Relojería Alemana
and clients of Rolex, as well as the general public, all of whom
aspired to winning the trophy for overall winner, a Rolex watch.
The scratch winner was awarded a Tudor watch, and for the first
classified players there was an interesting series of prizes related
to golfing equipment, as well as special prizes such as dinners in
exquisite restaurants on the island and various gift items from
the Relojería Alemana. The prizes were awarded directly by the
Fuster family, the owners of the Relojería Alemana. After the
tournament, by way of an appetizer, the players were welcomed
with a glass of Moët&Chandon and a delicious cocktail before
moving on to the Beefeater bar that was organised especially for
those who attended.
The Rolex brand has been backing this sport for years and the
Relojería Alemana is closely connected to the world of golf and
therefore, after the success achieved every time the tournament
has been held, it is more than likely that next year golf enthusiasts will be able to enjoy this special event once again.

A principios de junio de este año se celebró la segunda edición del torneo organizado por Mallorca
Golf Challenge a beneficio de Dolphin Aid, un torneo
celebrado en el Golf Son Gual para la recaudación de fondos destinados a obras de caridad. Dolphin Aid se dedica a la creación de diferentes programas de terapias con
delfines para la ayuda al desarrollo de niños con discapacidades, así que los fondos recaudados en este torneo
se destinan de manera íntegra para dicho fin.
Los organizadores, Patrick y Sandra Lohfink, tienen
claro lo que este torneo supone cada año: además de
un bonito encuentro entre aficionados del golf, significa una interesante oportunidad para ofrecer una espléndida gala benéfica celebrada después del torneo,
en la que todos los patrocinadores son gratamente recibidos. La pasada edición, en la que participaron 80
golfistas y 145 invitados, fue una noche de lo más entretenida y del todo provechosa para la recaudación de
fondos, alcanzando la cifra de 31.500 euros gracias a la
desinteresada colaboración de los diferentes patrocinadores. Garantía que invita a repetir el torneo para el
próximo año el 4 de junio.
The beginning of June this year saw the announcement of the second tournament organised by
Mallorca Golf Challenge in aid of Dolphin Aid, a
tournament held at Golf Son Gual to raise funds to be
donated to works of charity. Dolphin Aid is dedicated
to the creation of different therapy programmes that
use dolphins to help the development of children with
disabilities, so all of the funds raised through the tournament are used for this purpose.
The organisers, Patrick and Sandra Lohfink, are clear
about what this tournament signifies every year: as
well as a delightful gathering of amateur golfers, it
makes for an interesting opportunity to offer a splendid charity gala after the tournament, when all the
sponsors are given a pleasant reception. Last year,
when 80 golfers and 145 guests took part, it was an
extremely entertaining evening, and a highly beneficial
one in terms of fundraising, reaching a total of 31,500
Euros thanks to the selfless collaboration of the different sponsors. A guarantee that constitutes an invitation to repeat the tournament next year 4th of June.
Im zweiten Jahr in Folge fand Anfang Juni das Turnier Mallorca Golf Challenge im Golfclub Son Gual
statt. Das Turnier wird zugunsten des Vereins Dolphin
Aid veranstaltet, die Einnahmen werden ausschließlich
für karitative Zwecke verwendet. Dolphin Aid führt seit
Jahren Delphintherapien für behinderte Kinder durch.

El Mallorca Golf Grand Slam es un torneo público que
se ha celebrado en cinco clubs de golf, entre ellos en
el Golf Son Gual. El organizador, el Sr. Wolfram Seifert,
director durante 30 años de la Mallorca Magazin, es el
responsable de la celebración de este especial torneo que
destina todos los fondos recaudados a obras de caridad y
ofrece grandes regalos para los ganadores.
Esta edición fue del todo peculiar, ya que algunos famosos
quisieron aportar su granito de arena. Por un lado Heidi
Lübke, propietaria de Billy’s, la exclusiva cadena de tiendas de ropa de primeras marcas, fue a recaudar fondos
para la cadena de televisión alemana RTL. Y por otro lado
Martina Eberl, la golfista femenina más famosa de Alemania, vino a Mallorca especialmente para participar en el
evento y recaudar fondos.

The latest edition of the tournament was somewhat peculiar, as certain celebrities wanted to do their bit to help.
First there was Heidi Lübke, the owner of Billy’s, the exclusive first-brand clothes boutique chain, who came to raise
funds for the German TV channel RTL. And then there was
Martina Eberl, Germany’s most famous woman golfer, who
came to Mallorca especially to take part in the event and
raise funding.

unter anderem auf dem Platz Son Gual. Wolfram Seifert,
der 30 Jahre lang das Mallorca Magazin als Chefredakteur
leitete, ist der Organisator dieses besonderen Golfevents,
bei dem es für die Gewinner tolle Preisgeschenke gibt.
In diesem Jahr trugen zahlreiche Berühmtheiten aktiv zum
ausgezeichneten Gelingen des Turniers bei. So sammelte

El torneo ALL WHITE ha cumplido este año su 3ª edición, organizado y celebrado el 31 de julio pasado en las instalaciones de Son Gual. El éxito que
el evento consigue se traduce cada año en un aforo completo y en la necesidad
de reservar plazas con mucho tiempo de antelación. Se trata de un precioso
torneo de verano cuyos participantes son clientes asiduos de Son Gual, colaboradores de los patrocinadores y público en general.
Para esta edición hubo agradables sorpresas como la participación del tenista
campeón Rafa Nadal, que jugó como invitado especial. Los premios para los
ganadores, a cargo de los patrocinadores, fueron inmejorables: desde bolsas
con palos de golf hasta ordenadores portátiles. El requisito que sigue vigente
y que es una apuesta segura para próximos años es acudir al torneo y a la cena
de la noche vestido estrictamente con prendas de color blanco, condición que
convierte la velada en una hermosa estampa veraniega.
The ALL WHITE tournament reached its 3th year in 2010, and was organised and held on 31st July in the Son Gual installations. The event is
so successful that it fills up every year, and places need to be reserved well in
advance. The participants in this delightful summer tournament are regular
clients of Son Gual, collaborators of the sponsors and the general public.
This year there were some pleasant surprises, such as the participation of
champion tennis player Rafa Nadal, who played as special guest. The prizes
for the winners, donated by the sponsors, were unbeatable, ranging from bags
of golf clubs to laptops. The one requisite, which is sure to remain in place in
coming years, is that players must come to the tournament and the dinner at
night dressed strictly in white garments, a condition that turns the evening into
a beautiful, summery occasion.
Das Turnier ALL WHITE, das am 31. Juli auf dem Golfplatz Son Gual
stattfand, feiert in diesem Jahr sein 3-jähriges Bestehen. Jedes Jahr ist
das Turnier voll ausgebucht, Plätze müssen weit im voraus reserviert werden,
was für den Erfolg des Events spricht. Das ALL WHITE ist ein Sommerturnier,
hierher kommen viele Stammgäste des Golfclubs Son Gual sowie Förderer und
zahlreiche interessierte Besucher. In diesem Jahr wartete das ALL WHITE mit
dem berühmten Weltklasse-Tennisspieler Rafal Nadal als special guest auf.
Auch die von den Sponsoren gestifteten Preise für die Gewinner waren eine
besondere Überraschung; unter anderem waren hochwertige Golftaschen und
–schläger oder Laptops zu gewinnen.
Erwähnenswert sind auch die strengen Kleidervorschriften des Turniers: die

Nacido en Gran Bretaña hace 33 años, Gareth Anwel se ha formado como greenkeeper
en colegios y en algunos de los mejores cursos en Portugal, Alemania y Estados Unidos.
Hasta que llegó a Mallorca…
Yo estaba particularmente involucrado en
la construcción del campo de Son Gual.
Luego me fui a Killeen Castle, en Irlanda, un
tiempo. Pero la climatología de allí no me
gustaba demasiado. Cuando me enteré que
Son Gual buscaba un Jefe de Greenkeeper
no lo pensé dos veces, regresé a la isla para
hacer una entrevista. Y, bueno, aquí estoy
desde hace cuatro años.
¿En qué consiste exactamente tu trabajo?
Hago muchas cosas, como coordinar a los
28 trabajadores fijos que cuidan a diario el
campo y el resto de instalaciones, a la vez
que me encargo de su formación. Luego llevo el control del abono, de los insecticidas y
el riego de las 45 hectáreas que ocupan los
terrenos del Golf Son Gual, incluyendo los
olivos, las viñas… Mimamos cada centímetro del campo. Así es como hemos llegado
a estar en el Top 100 europeo, y seguimos
continuamente progresando.
¿Cuál es el secreto para que el Golf Son
Gual luzca tan bien?
Además del maravilloso diseño del campo,
una gran parte del mérito es de los profesionales que trabajan aquí, apasionados de este
deporte y con ganas de mejorar sus propias
carreras y el Golf Son Gual. Aunque somos
un campo muy joven todavía, mi intención a
medio plazo es situar a Son Gual en el Top 3
de España, algo que creo que podemos conseguir en los próximos cinco años.
Usted que lo cuida cada día, ¿Cómo definiría el campo?
Se trata de un fantástico diseño único por
Thomas Himmel. La gente, cuando dice que
es un diseño muy americano, se refiere a los
drenajes de agua, a los hoyos que ofrecen
un desafío individual y a los cientos de árboles maduros e indígenas incorporados en
la naturaleza de forma natural para que los
jugadores disfruten en el Golf Son Gual.

college and on some of the finest courses in
Portugal, Germany and the US.
Until coming to Mallorca…
I was actually partly involved in the construction of the Son Gual course. Then I went
to Killeen Castle in Ireland for a while, but
the Irish climate wasn’t really to my liking.
When I heard Son Gual was looking for a Head
Greenkeeper I didn’t need to think twice about
it; I returned back to the island for an interview and now consider Mallorca my home.
What exactly does your work at Son Gual
consist of?
I have many duties, such as coordinating
the 28 permanent employees who look after the course and the rest of the installations every day, and at the same time I train
them. And I am also in charge of the applications of fertilizers, chemicals and the
watering of the 45 hectares of land Golf Son
Gual covers, including the olive trees, the
vineyards… We pamper every single centimetre of the course. This is how we have
managed to reach the Top 100 in Europe
and continue to progressively improve.
What is the secret to making Golf Son
Gual look so good?
Aside from the wonderful design of the
course, a large part of the merit should go
to the professionals who work here all of
whom are passionate and eager to improve
themselves and Golf Son Gual. Even though
we are still a very young course, my aim for
the medium-term is to position Son Gual in
the Top 3 in Spain, something I believe we
can achieve over the next five years.
As someone who looks after it day in, day
out, how would you define the course?
It is a fantastic unique design by Thomas Himmel, people refer to it being quite American
due to the expenses of water, but with each
hole offering its individual challenge and
hundreds of mature indigenous trees incorporated into the layout players cannot fail to
enjoy memorable rounds at Golf Son Gual.

Ich kam, um am Bau des Golfplatzes Son
Gual mitzuwirken. Danach ging ich für einige
Zeit nach Irland, auf Schloss Killeen, aber das
Wetter sagte mir nicht zu. Als ich erfuhr, dass
für Son Gual ein Greenkeeper-Chef gesucht
wurde, habe ich nicht zwei Mal überlegt und
bin sofort auf die Insel zu einem Gespräch
gereist. Nun bin ich hier, seit vier Jahren.
Wie sieht Ihre Arbeit auf Son Gual aus?
Ich mache viele Dinge, zum Beispiel übernehme ich die Koordinierung und Ausbildung
der 28 festangestellten Mitarbeiter, die sich
täglich um den Golfplatz und die Anlagen
kümmern. Dann bin ich für die Kontrolle
der Düngung, Bewässerung und Insektenbekämpfung der 45 Hektar großen Fläche
von Son Gual zuständig, einschließlich der
Olivenbäume und Weinreben. Wir achten
liebevoll und aufmerksam auf jeden Zentimeter. So sind wir in die Top 100 Europas
gekommen und wir steigen weiter auf.
Was steckt hinter der Brillianz von Son Gual?
Zum einen das hervorragende Design des
Platzes, zum anderen das Verdienst des
Personals, das diesen Sport leidenschaftlich
liebt und immer nach Verbesserung strebt,
sowohl was das eigene Golfspiel als auch
den Platz Son Gual angeht. Wir sind zwar
ein junger Golfplatz, aber ich will Son Gual
mittelfristig in die Top 3 Spaniens bringen.
Und ich glaube, wir können das in den kommenden fünf Jahren schaffen.
Sie kümmern sich täglich um den Platz.
Wie würden Sie Son Gual definieren?
Das Design von Thomas Himmel ist einfach
phantastisch. Für viele Golfer ist der Platz
sehr amerikanisch, die Wasserdränagen,
die Löcher, die eine wahre Herausforderung sind, die hunderte von einheimischen
Bäumen, die sich perfekt in die Natur einfügen. Das alles können die Spieler genießen.

cada vez más avances, como lo será la caseta de video que estamos construyendo, en
las que instalaremos cámaras de video fijas
para filmar las prácticas. Al estar a cubierto, podremos hacer clases en un ambiente
protegido todo el año.
¿Cuál es su sistema de enseñanza?
Depende del nivel de juego por parte del
estudiante, siempre intento adaptarme al
conocimiento con el que se me presenta
el alumno. Para mí, personalmente, es importante que el movimiento sea adaptado a cada cuerpo. Poder jugar con menos
fuerza, utilizando las articulaciones y los
músculos de forma adecuada para protegerlos. Hay modos infinitos de enseñar y
de aprender. Con los principiantes hace
falta el trabajo de desarrollo metódico, los
handicap altos requieren muchas veces la
mejora de la técnica básica que está causando fallos.
En sus clases, usted combina las prácticas con salidas al campo de golf.
Sí, pues además de ser más divertido, los
alumnos también comprueban por qué es
tan importante machacar bolas en el campo de prácticas, que no es lo mismo cuando
vas al campo de golf pues los golpes siempre serán diferentes.
¿Cuál diría que es su especialidad?
Entre otras cosas, hace cuatro años que me
he especializado en clases de putt, para jugadores de alto nivel y profesionales. En
la Harold Swash Escuela de Putt de Excelencia utilizo el Sam Puttlab, un sistema de
ultrasonido que analiza los movimientos
del palo a una décima de grados. Al mismo
tiempo, dos cámaras de video captan los
movimientos del cuerpo. Así evalúo al jugador de manera muy exhaustiva.

What is the Son Gual Golf Academy like?
At the Academy we are including more and
more advances, such as the video house we
are building, where we will install fixed video cameras to capture golf swings. Since

What teaching system do you use?
It depends on the students level; I always
adapt to the abilities of the pupil. For me,
personally, it is important for the swing
to be suited to each body. To play with
less strength, using muscles and joints
correctly in order to protect them. There
are countless methods of teaching and
of learning. With beginners you need to
work on methodical development, whereas with handicap golfer you quite often
find yourself working on improving basics
that causes faults.
In your lessons you combine sessions on
the practice tee and on-course playing
lessons.
Yes, because as well as being more enjoyable, the pupils also see why it is so important to hit ball after ball on the range, and
that it isn’t the same when you are on the
golf course because the strokes will always
be different. The quality of the result is based on the quality of your swing.
What would you say is your speciality?
Four years ago I specialised in Putting Instruction, especially on low handicaps and
Professionals. At the Harold Swash Putting School of Excellence we use the Sam
Puttlab, an ultrasound system that analyses the movements of the club to a tenth
of a degree. At the same time, two video
cameras capture the movements of the
body. That allows me to analyse the golfer
into great detail.

das sich derzeit noch in der Bauphase befindet. Hier werden Kameras installiert, die
die Übungen filmen. Da das Zentrum überdacht ist, können wir das ganze Jahr über
trainieren.
Nach welchem System lehren Sie?
Das hängt vom Spielniveau des Schülers ab,
ich versuche immer, mich an dessen Fähigkeiten anzupassen.
Individuell wichtig ist mir jedoch, dass
der Golfschwung jedem Körper angepasst
wird. Kraftloser spielen können, spezielle
Gelenke und Muskeln sollen zur Schonung
richtig eingesetzt werden. Es gibt unendlich viele Arten zu lehren and zu lernen.
Bei Einsteigern ist es Aufbauarbeit.
Sie kombinieren Übungen mit Ausflügen auf den Golfplatz.
Ja, das macht einfach mehr Spaß. Außerdem verstehen die Schüler dann besser,
warum es so wichtig ist, das Schlagen auf
dem Übungsplatz immer wieder zu üben.
Auf dem Golfplatz sind die Schläge nämlich
ganz anders. Man muss wirklich viele Stunden auf dem Übungsplatz verbringen, damit
man auf dem Platz erfolgreich spielen kann.
Welches ist Ihr Spezialgebiet?
Unter anderem habe ich mich vor vier
Jahren auf den Unterricht im Putten für
Spieler mit hohem Niveau und Profis
spezialisiert. In der Harold Swash Putting
School of Excellence benutze ich das Sam
Puttlab, ein Ultraschall-System, welches
die Bewegungen des Schlägers auf Zehntelgrade analysiert. Zwei Videokameras
halten gleichzeitig die Körperbewegungen
fest. So kann ich den Spieler sehr genau
und detailliert bewerten.

Mi ocupación es diversa, por un lado soy
un emprendedor propietario de su propia
compañía, Logical Golf, con otros dos socios, Robert & Peter Baker. Por otro lado
ejerzo de profesor apasionado. He podido
conocer a grandes deportistas y entrenar
a ambiciosos y jóvenes jugadores. Nuestra
metodología, Logical Golf, está basada en la
lógica del juego del golf de los mejores jugadores del mundo. El fundador y presidente
es Robert Baker, considerado uno de los 10
mejores entrenadores del mundo, quien ha
trabajado con cinco números uno durante
20 años.
¿Cuál es tu relación con el Golf Son Gual?
Mi relación con Golf Son Gual es nueva y
emocionante para mí. Poder trabajar aquí
dando clases es un gran placer con la que

¿Cómo describiría usted Son Gual?
Como jugador de golf creo que es el campo que supone un mayor desafío en toda
Mallorca. Cada hoyo supone un reto nuevo
y divertido y la atmósfera del club te transmite una sensación muy especial. Nuestros
clientes, tras pasar un día en Son Gual, responden con grandes elogios hacia el Club.
¿Cuál es el secreto de un buen profesor?
Tener la habilidad de comunicar qué es lo
que realmente necesita el alumno en cada
momento es algo que puede ayudar a reducir la cantidad de información y, por lo
tanto, no confundir a los alumnos. Debe
saber cuándo hay que cambiar y mejorar
o simplemente entrenar y ayudar a que el
alumno encuentre la confianza en sí mismo.
¿Se puede aprender a jugar incluso sin
tener demasiadas habilidades?
Todo el mundo puede aprender a jugar al
golf, los límites y capacidades no son lo más
importante. La verdadera belleza del juego para el golfista amateur reside en que
el golf ofrece muchas más cualidades de la
vida, conocer gente nueva, relajarte en hermosos paisajes, el poder viajar, etc.

My occupation is diverse I am on one side
a entrepreneur who owns his own company with two partners Robert & Peter

What is your relationship with Golf Son
Gual?
My relationship to Son Gual is new and exciting for me. To be able to work there with
our company is a great pleasure and I really enjoy being able to teach and bring our
clients to this beautiful place.
How would you describe the Club?
For me personally as a Golfer, the golf course is without a doubt the best test and challenge in Mallorca. Every hole you play is a
challenge and therefore much fun. All our
customers that we have spent a day with in
Son Gual have responded with great praise
for the Golf course and Club.
What is the secret of being a good teacher?
To have the ability to communicate that
what really matters at the right moment,
supplying to much information can confuse
students, you must know when to change
and improve, or just coach and help the student find confidence with what he or she has.
Is the ability to play innate, or can one
learn even if one has no skill?
Everybody can learn to play Golf. The real
beauty of the game for the amateur golfer
lies not in having to play well although this
is obviously more fun, golf provides you with
many more qualities of life, from meeting
new people, relaxing in great surroundings,
being able to travel to great destinations, etc.

Ich beschäftige mich mit verschiedenen
Dingen. Einserseits bin ich aktiver Unternehmer der eigenen Firma, Logical Golf,
zusammen mit den zwei Partnern Robert
& Peter Baker. Andererseits bin ich mit
Leidenschaft Trainer. Ich habe berühmte Sportler kennengelernt, habe junge,
ehrgeizige Spieler trainiert. Die Methode
von Logical Golf basiert auf der Logik des
Spiels der besten Golfprofis der Welt. Robert Baker, Firmengründer und –präsident,
gehört zu den zehn besten Trainern der
Welt, er hat 20 Jahre lang mit fünf Nummer

In welcher Beziehung stehen Sie zum
Golf Son Gual?
Die Beziehung zum Golf Son Gual ist neu
und spannend für mich. Hier arbeiten und
trainieren zu können ist ein Vergnügen, das
ich genieße.
Wie würden Sie Son Gual beschreiben?
Als Golfspieler würde ich sagen, Son Gual
ist der Platz auf Mallorca, der die größte Herausforderung für die Spieler darstellt. Jedes
Loch ist eine neue „Kampfansage“ und das
Ambiente im Club gibt einem das Gefühl des
Besonderen. Unsere Kunden sind nach einem Tag auf Son Gual immer voll des Lobes.
Welches ist Ihr Geheimrezept für einen
guten Trainer?
Vor allem Kommunikationsfähigkeit, die
brauchen die Schüler immer. Das richtige Maß an Informationen, um sie nicht zu
verwirren. Der Trainer muss wissen, wann
der Moment ist, etwas zu verändern und zu
verbessern und wann der Augenblick, nur
zu trainieren und dem Schüler Selbstvertrauen zu vermitteln.
Kann man Golfen auch lernen, wenn
man kein herausragendes Talent hat?
Für den Amateur besteht die Schönheit des
Golfsports darin, dass Golfen das Lebensgefühl verbessert. Man lernt Leute kennen,
kann in wunderschöner Landschaft relaxen
und viel reisen.
¿Cuál es su relación con el Golf Son Gual?
Desde hace muchos años mantengo una
profunda amistad con la familia Pamer. En
las instalaciones de Son Gual trabajo como
profesor de golf.
¿Cómo describiría Son Gual Golf?
Sin duda, Son Gual es uno de los campos
más ejemplares de Europa, que además
ha cogido mucho prestigio como anfitrión
del Torneo Europeo Senior. El ambiente
en el club es muy familiar, armónico y
agradable.
¿Qué métodos utiliza en sus clases?
No se pueden generalizar mis métodos,
dado que me adapto individualmente a
cada uno de mis alumnos, con el objetivo
de mejorar a la larga su juego. Muchos de
mis alumnos son clientes habituales desde hace años, los conozco de mi trabajo
en Alemania y durante el invierno ellos
suelen entrenar en Mallorca. No obstante,
enseño y ayudo a todos los alumnos que
vengan, no importa su edad ni su nacionalidad.
¿Cuántas horas de clase necesite alguien
que nunca ha jugado antes?
Tampoco puede decirse de forma general.
Hay alumnos que disponen de buena coordinación y que aprenden el juego rápidamente. Sin embargo, todos son capaces
de hacerlo y hasta el momento, todos han
conseguido aprender este maravilloso deporte.
¿Cuál es el secreto de un buen profesor?
El secreto está en la individualidad. Cada
alumno es un mundo, cada uno se comporta y aprende de diferente manera. Por este
mismo motivo un profesor debe adaptarse
siempre a los conocimientos y facultades
de cada alumno. Además, el profesor debe
destacar siempre por su ejemplar actitud y
la puntualidad.
¿Es la habilidad de jugar innata, o se
puede aprender sin tenerla?
No, por desgracia el talento innato no existe en el golf. Algunos tienen un don, una
predisposición, pero sin entrenamiento
nadie tendrá éxito.

For many years now I have had a very good
friendship with the Pamer family. I work at
Son Gual as golf coach.
How would you describe Son Gual Golf?
Without a doubt Son Gual is one of the finest
courses in Europe, and it has also gained a
great deal of prestige as the venue for the
European Senior Tour. The atmosphere at
the club is very friendly, cordial and pleasant.
What methods do you use in your lessons?
You can’t generalise about my methods,
since I adapt individually to each of my pupils, in order to improve their game in the
long term. Many of my pupils have been
regular customers for years now, I know
them through my work in Germany and
in the winter they usually train in Mallorca. However, I teach and help all the pupils
who come to me, whatever their age or nationality.
How many hours of lessons does someone who has never played before need?
You can’t give a sweeping answer to this,
either. Some pupils have good coordination
and learn the game fast. But all of them
have the ability to play and so far, all of
them have managed to learn this marvellous sport.
What is the secret to being a good teacher?
The secret is in individuality. Every pupil
is different, every one of them behaves
and learns differently. And for this same
reason a coach must always adapt to the
knowledge and skills of each pupil. Moreover, the coach should always stand out
for his exemplary attitude and punctuality.
Is the ability to play innate, or can one
learn without it?
No, unfortunately there is no such thing as
innate talent in golf. Some people have a
flair, a predisposition if you will, but without
training no-one will be successful.

Mich verbindet mit Golf Son Gual eine tiefe,
langjährige Freundschaft mit der Familie
Pamer. Ich arbeite hier in Son Gual als Golflehrer.
Was würden Sie an Son Gual hervorheben,
wie würden Sie den Club beschreiben?
Son Gual ist einer der Vorzeigeplätze in Europa. Des Weiteren hat der Club als Ausrichter
eines European Senior Turniers weiter an Reputationen gesammelt. Den Club selber kann
man als sehr familiär bezeichnen, wodurch
eine harmonische und freundliche Atmosphäre herrscht.
Erzählen Sie uns von Ihrer Arbeit als Golflehrer, Ihren Methoden und den Schülern.
Meine Trainingsmethoden lassen sich nicht
verallgemeinern, da ich mich auf jeden meiner
Schüler individuell einstelle um so sein Spiel
nachhaltig verbessern zu können. Viele meiner
Schüler sind langjährige Stammkunden, die
ich aus meiner Arbeit aus Deutschland habe
und die ihr „Winterlager“ auf Mallorca aufgebaut haben. Nichtsdestotrotz unterrichte ich
selbstverständlich alle Schüler die bei mir Hilfe suchen, egal welches Alter oder Nationalität.
Wie lange braucht ein absoluter Neuling,
um das Golfspiel zu erlernen?
Dies kann man nicht verallgemeinern. Es gibt
Schüler, die aufgrund koordinativer Veranlagung schneller Golf lernen als andere. Jedoch
kann jeder unseren schönen Sport erlernen
und hat es auch immer geschafft.
Was ist das Geheimnis eines guten Lehrers?
Das Geheimnis ist die Individualität. Jeder
Schüler ist anders, verhält sich anders und
lernt auch anders. Deswegen muss ein guter
Lehrer sich immer wieder auch neu auf seinen Schüler einstellen. Weiterhin sollte ein
guter Golflehrer ein anständiges Auftreten
haben und immer pünktlich sein.
Ist das Talent angeboren und kann man das
Golfen auch ohne Fachkenntnis lernen?
Angeboren ist beim Golfsport leider nichts.
Manche haben zwar eine Veranlagung, aber
ohne das nötige Training wird kein Spieler
erfolgreich sein.
