MENDOZA VINEYARDS AND LANSCAPES
Son muchos los vínculos que me unen con
éste maravilloso paisaje mendocino, pasé mi primera infancia en Godoy Cruz y recuerdo particularmente la enorme parra que tenía la casa, cuyas
uvas fueron el origen de mis primeras experiencias
intentando fabricar mi vino…
Cada fin de semana íbamos de pic-nic por
las montañas a Potrerillos, Uspallata o algún lugar
cercano al Río Mendoza. Las enormes alamedas
completamente doradas en el otoño mendocino,
contrastando con el imponente Cordón del Plata,
los extensos viñedos, las acequias y las galerías de
árboles únicas de la ciudad de Mendoza son
imágenes que están muy presentes en mi interior y
he querido volver sobre ellas plásticamente a raíz
de una serie de fotografías que tomé hace 2 años
en la bodega Salentein y sus alrededores.
Primero trabajé con las fotos digitales interviniendo dramáticamente sus colores cambiando los
valores locales casi por sus opuestos o negativos,
todo esto fue inspirador de una forma distinta de
abordar el paisaje, mas cercana a mi pintura, donde
las imágenes se transfieren como la memoria de la
memoria y se desarrollan en una estética en la cual
intento despojar la anécdota para tratar de sumergirme plenamente en una solución plástica que en
mi caso tiene que ver con los límites de la figuración
y abstracción, el movimiento, la materia y el color.
I have been connected with this marvellous
Mendoza landscape through various links: I lived
my early childhood in Godoy Cruz and have a vivid
recollection of an enormous vine in the house,
whose grapes were the source of my first experiences trying to make my own wine...
We used to go on pic-nics over the weekends
to Potrerillos, Uspallata or some other place close to
Río Mendoza. The enormous poplar groves, entirely
gold-tinted in the Mendoza fall, against the magnificent Cordon del Plata, the extensive vineyards, the
irrigation ditches and the unique galleries of trees
typical of Mendoza city—these are all images that I
have treasured deep inside me, and I have wanted
to revisit them through plastic art, following a series
of pictures I took two years ago at the Salentein
winery and its surroundings.
I worked first with the digital photos, dramatically intervening their colors, changing local values
to almost their opposites or negatives. All of this
inspired a different way of addressing the landscape, closer to my painting style, in which images are
transferred as a memory of memory, and evolve into
an aesthetics in which I try to strip off the anecdote
to try and submerge fully in a plastic solution that in
my case has to do with the limits of figuration and
abstraction, movement, matter, and color.

Nació en Argentina en 1965, estudió escenografía e iluminación en
el Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires y recibió una beca para estudiar
dibujo y pintura en el taller del Maestro Roberto Páez. Actualmente
vive en Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Sergio Boccaccio was born in Argentina in 1965. He pursued
scenography and lighting studies at Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires
and was awarded a grant to study drawing and painting in the
atelier of Master Roberto Paez. He lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
