Mass Intentions
What is a Mass Intention? A Mass
Intention is when you have a Mass said
for someone who has passed away or for
something that is very important example: wedding anniversary, birthday.
Please call or stop by the Parish Office to
have a Mass said. Weekday Masses are
available as well as some weekend masses
for the remainder of the year.
Keep Us Informed!
Have you changed your name, address, or
phone number? Are you or someone you
know in the hospital or homebound? If
you answer yes to any one of these
questions, then please call our parish
office at 815-625-0640. It is vital that we
keep the census updated and minister to
your spiritual needs.
Opting for Life
In this new society we live in there might be a seemingly strong sense of freedom. Without any doubt, there are many options, whether you go into the supermarket to buy any
product or you want to choose a career in life. We may belief the illusion that we can do
whatever we want without any obstacles or limitations. It might seem that we are entitled to anything we desire and young people particularly may fall into this trap. And it is
a trap, because actions have consequences, and decisions re always moral: that is, they
always impact others in a positive or negative way.
Some of watch as the characters in a soap opera get married and
unmarried; easily rid themselves of obstacles or the consequence of
actions, such as having an abortion because having a baby at the
time is inconvenient. We watch rich girls who are not required to be
accountable for anything and for whom negative consequence are
simply removed. It may be possible that our children could fall for
such an illusion and we simply don’t discuss truth with them, considering perhaps that we don’t wish to crush their dreams, their initiative, or their freedom.
Freedom
Is to be
Released
From the
Bonds of
Evil.
Before all this, Jesus gives us a rather different concept of freedom: it is a healthy relationship with the people close to us. In other words, a right and healing relationship.
The point is to make decisions knowing that anything we do has consequences for
others. That is, choosing will always be a matter of love. The point is to choose true
life at each turn instead of choosing a fleeting moment of pleasure. A true freedom to
choose is inside every person and that is the greatest human strength a person can have.
It is superior to human laws since it is in keeping with a true obedience to the will of
God. It is, therefore, totally free. Freedom is to be untied from the bonds of evil and
darkness and from the bond that selfishness means. Selfishness always seeks its own
pleasure and comfort, and that is not to be truly free, but to be tied down to oneself. It
closes the person up and makes him or her wither inside. True freedom is to be at the
service of life. It is the only thing that can heal and bring salvation.
For Reflection
Have you ever considered if you were totally free? From what ties would you like to be
freed?

no existen.
¿Has considerado alguna vez si eres verdaderamente libre? ¿De qué ataduras te gustaría
librarte?
