El Neues Museum, proyectado y construido por F.A. Stüler a mediados del S.XIX, quedó prácticamente en
ruinas tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La propuesta de David Chipperfield, ganadora del concurso para su
reconstrucción, plantea re-completar el volumen original, creando una continuidad, pero sin competir con
la estructura existente, y restaurar lo que permanece sin imitar lo que ha desaparecido, manteniendo las
huellas de la historia. También se pretende restablecer la escena urbana previa a la guerra.
The Neues Museum, designed and built by F.A. Stüler in the middle of the 19th century, was practically
in ruins after World War II. The winning proposal from the contest for its reconstruction was one from
David Chipperfield, and it considers the filling of the original volume, which will bring a continuity without
competing with the existing structure. It also considers the restoration of the remains without imitating what
has disappeared, thus keeping the marks of history. It also aspires to restore the pre-war urban scene.

l Neues Museum (Museo Nuevo), en la Isla de los Museos
de Berlín, fue proyectado por Friedrich August Stüler y construido entre 1841 y 1859. El bombardeo masivo durante
la Segunda Guerra Mundial dejó al edificio en ruinas, con sectores
enteros completamente desaparecidos y otros seriamente dañados.
Se hicieron pocos intentos de reparación después de la guerra, y
la estructura se quedó expuesta a la naturaleza. En 1997, David
Chipperfield Architects -con Julian Harrap- ganaron el concurso internacional para la reconstrucción del Neues Museum.

SITE PLAN
The Neues Museum (New Museum), on Berlin’s Museum Island,
was designed by Friedrich August Stüler and built between 1841
and 1859. Extensive bombing during the Second World War left
the building in ruins, with entire sections missing completely and
others severely damaged. Few attempts at repair were made after
the war, and the structure was left exposed to nature. In 1997,
David Chipperfield Architects -with Julian Harrap- won the international competition for the rebuilding of the Neues Museum.
