ABOUT THE GREEN LIGHT DISTRICT:
The El Puente Green Light District is a strategic ten-year initiative to sustain, grow,
green, and celebrate Williamsburg’s Southside community! At a time when communities across New York City are facing rapid changes that threaten to destabilize our
neighborhoods, the Green Light District seeks to flip the disempowerment of gentrification and put the power of transformation in the hands of its residents and stakeholders. The Green Light District focuses its work in Arts & Culture, Affordable Living, Education, Greening Spaces & Environmental Justice, and Health & Wellness. Green Light

ABOUT EL PUENTE:
El Puente is a community human rights institution that promotes leadership for peace
and justice through the engagement of members (youth and adult) in the arts, education, scientific research, wellness and environmental action. Founded in 1982 by Luis
Garden Acosta, El Puente currently integrates the diverse activities and community
campaigns of its Center for Arts and Culture and its Green Light District & Community
Wellness Program within its four neighborhood Leadership Centers, and its nationally
recognized public high school, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. Organizing in North Brooklyn and beyond, El Puente remains at the forefront of community/
youth learning and development issues and as such, initiates and impacts social policy
both locally and nationally.
ABOUT SOUTHSIDE MERCHANTS:
Southside Merchants is an organization creating a strong partnership between local
businesses, property owners and the community on and around Broadway and Havemeyer Streets in Southside Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We welcome local merchants, property owners and the community to join us at our regular gatherings to meet your
neighborhood entrepreneurs and leaders, learn how to grow your business and navigate city government, and work together to improve physical conditions and the quality of life and work in the Southside community. Southside Merchants is coordinated
by James Dean Ellis and supported by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and NYC
Department of Small Business Services.
