The meeting was called to order at 9:27am. Ms. Orozco, ELAC President, welcomed everyone.
Ms. Donis lead the pledge of allegiance. Ms. Hernandez read the mission and vision. Ms. Beltran called roll. There
is a quorum, so the meeting is official. Ms. Navarro read the minutes from the last meeting. There were no
corrections. Ms. Chavarria moved to accept the minutes as read. Ms. Navarro seconded the motion.
Ms. Navarro moved to change the agenda to have the student presentation before the principal’s report. Ms.
Chavarria seconded the motion.
Two 6th grade girls spoke about the problems of graffiti and the insects and rodents around the cafeteria. They
recommend that the trash bins be moved to a location away from the cafeteria. They also recommended that the
school purchase cameras to observe who is marking up the school and throwing trash on the ground. They would
like to form a group to make the students aware of these problems. They will make a flyer and they would like the
parents to assist them.
Ms. Chavarria moved to change the agenda to have Ms. Beebe present before the principal’s report. Ms. Navarro
seconded the motion.
Ms. Beebe spoke about the Assurances and Justifications for the 2012-2013 budget. We already approved the first
part of the budget for the district to approve. She explained how we are going to spend the funds in each area. She
needs the committee to approve how the funds will be spent. A parent asked if the school has a list of qualifications
that a substitute teacher has to have and Ms. Beebe responded that the district is in charge of hiring substitutes. Ms.
Chavarria moved to accept the Assurances and Justifications as presented, since there were no changes or
suggestions. Ms. Navarro seconded the motion. Ms. Galeano moved to extend Ms. Beebe’s time by 5 minutes. Ms.
Navarro seconded the motion. Ms. Beebe explained that funds have become available from unused salary of a TA
and suggested they be divided between: 1) tutoring program, 2) day-to-day substitutes so the teachers can evaluate
portfolios, 3) staff training rate, and 4) Advisory Committee Expenses for the Parent Resource Fair on June 9 and
the Reclassification Ceremony on June 6. Ms. Chavarria moved to accept the budget transfers as presented. Ms.
Navarro seconded the motion.
Ms. Edwards, the principal, spoke about the tests which begin in May and asked that the students attend school
every day and don’t miss class, because many parents are taking their students out of class. She suggested that when
parents make doctor or dentist appointments, that they be after school and not during class. She also thanked all the
parent volunteers that come to help. We are happy to have a budget for ELAC for another year. For next year, we
will lose at least 8 teacher positions from Title I. We will also have 200 fewer students. She also said that students
are throwing trash on the ground and when you see it, please tell them to pick it up.
Ms. Galeano, Local District Representative, said that Superintendent McKenna thanked everyone for coming and
that we are in the last days of Local District 7. He said that as parents we need to speak up and vote. He also said
that parents can call Superintendent Deasy at 213-241-7000. Call this number to ask them not to take Local District
7.
Ms. Linares thanked all the parent volunteers. She also said that parents are able to get chairs for children 1-5 years
old. Ms. Watson thanked the parent volunteers and said they are invited to the Friday workshops that take place in
the Parent Center. She also wished everyone Happy Mothers’ Day. Ms. Chavarria asked for help with the Parent
Fair on June 9 to welcome the 6th grade students. She has 6 people helping with the Festival of Books on April 21Last printed 11/11/12 3:20 PM

22. Parents are invited to attend the workshop on domestic violence this Friday in the Parent Center. She also
thanked the parent volunteers.
Ms. Powell spoke about a campaign working to promote respect in the school. They are using the color red, for
example the words that are being painted by the parents to promote these ideas of respecting all cultures at the
Cultural Fair. There will be workshops on this day and we need parent volunteers from 8:30-11:30.
To close the meeting, Ms. Orozco thanked everyone and the meeting was adjourned at 11:27am. Thanks to all the
parents for coming to the meeting and we hope to see you at the next meeting.

La junta comenzo a las 9:27am. La bienvenida fue hecha por la presidenta Ms. Orozco.
El juramento fue hecha por la Sra. Donis. La visión y misión fue hecha por la Sra. Hernandez. Paso lista la Sra.
Beltran. Esta junta es oficial porque asistieron 6 miembros. Las minutas fueron leidas por la Sra. Navarro.
La Sra. Chavarria hizo la moción para pasar las minutas como fueron leidas. No hubieron correcciones. La secundo
la Sra. Orozco.
La Sra. Navarro hizo una moción para cambiar a la directora y para que hablaran dos niñas del 6 grado. La secundo
Ms. Echeverria.
Las niñas hablaron sobre el problema de grafitis y también hablaron sobre la cucarachas y las ratas de la cafetería.
Dieron una recomendación que muevan los botes de basura que los pasen a otro lado mas lejos de la cafetería.
También dieron la recomendación que compren cámaras para mirar quiene son los que manchan y tiran la basura en
el suelo. Dijieron que quieren tener un grupo para que los demás alumnos sepan sobre este problema. Ellas van a ser
una noticia y necesitan la ayuda de todos los padres.
La Sra. Chavarria hizo una moción para pasar a la Srta. Beebe por la directora porque en este momento no se
encuntra la directora. La secundo Ms. Navarro.
La Srta. Beebe hablo sobre las Aseguranzas y Justificaciones para el 2012-2013. Hicieron la primera parte de
aprobar el presupuesto para presentar al distrito. Explico como vamos a gastar el dinero en cada area. Esta buscando
la aprobación para los gastos como lo van a usar. Un padre tiene una pregunta si tiene una lista de calificados la
escuela para los maestros sustitutos y la Srta. Beebe le respondió que el distrito es el que se encarga de mandar a los
suplentes. La Sra. Chavarria hizo una moción para aprobar el presupuesto tal y como esta no hubieron cambios ni
sugerencias. La secundo la Sra. Navarro. La Sra. Galeano hizo una moción para darle 5 minutos mas a la Srta.
Beebe. La secundo Ms.Navarro. Ella explico que tenemos fondos a causa que el salario de un asistente que no
usaron y nos di la sugerencia a mover el dinero a: 1) programa de tutoria, 2) sustitutos para los maestros pueden
evaluar portafolios, 3) entrenamiento apoyan la implementación, y 4) gastos comité asesor para la feria que se
llebara a cabo el 9 de junio y la ceremonia de reclasificacion el 6 de junio. La Sra. Chavarria hizo una moción para
aceptar el presupuesto como esta. La secundo la Sra. Navarro.
La Sra. Edwards, la directora, hablo sobre los exámenes que van a comensar en mayo y que vengan los niños y no
falten a clases porque muchos papas traen temprano a los niños y los sacan a las horas de clases. Ella sujerio que
cuando hagan una cita para el doctor o el dentista, las hagan las citas después de escuela y no durante clases.
También dio las gracias por todos los padres voluntarios que vienen a ayudar. Estamos alegres de ELAC para el otro
año ya tenemos presupuesto. Para el próximo año nos van a recortar 8 maestros del presupuesto de Titulo 1.
También nos van a quitar 200 estudiantes. Hablo que hay alumnos que tieran la basura en el suelo y cuando ustedes
miren a los niños tirando la basura en el suelo porfavor díganles que la recojan.
La Sra. Galeano hablo sobre el reporte del distrito. Ella dijo que el Superintendente Local McKenna agradeció a
todos por que ya estamos llegando a los últimos meses del Distrito 7. Dijo que como padres hablemos y esperamos
nuestra voz y voto. Tambien dijo que se puede llamar por teléfono al Superintendente Deasy a 213-241-7000. Este
teléfono es para que no quiten el Distrito 7.

La Sra. Linares agradeció a todos los padres voluntarios y también hablo que van a regalar sillas para los niños de 1
a 5 anos. La Sra. Watson dio las gracias a todos los padres voluntarios y dijo que estan invitados a los talleres los
dias viernes que se llevan a cabo en el Centro de Padres. Tambien dijo que tiene feliz dia de las madres. La Sra.
Echeverria dijo que necesita ayuda de los padres para la feria que se efectuara el dia 9 de junio para la bienvenida a
los estudiantes del 6 grado. Ya tiene 6 personas que le ayudaran para la Feria de Libros el 21-22 de abril. Los padres
stan invitados a los talleres de violencia domestica el dia viernes en el Centro de Padres. Y ella le dio las gracias a
todos los padres voluntarios.
La Sra. Powell hablo sobre una campaña trabajando para promover respeto en la escuela. Usan el color rojo como
las palabras que estan pintando que hacen los padres para promover ideas para la feria de las culturas que respeten
cada cultura. Ese dia va a ver talleres y necesitamos padres voluntarios de 8:30 a 11:30.
Para terminar la junta dio las gracias la Sra. Orozco y se finalizo la junta a las 11:27 A.M. Gracias a todos los padres
por haber venido a esta junta y los esperamos para la siguiente junta.
