Wells Fargo Matches Hispanic Austin Leadership Alumni Donation

Wells Fargo will match $10,000 in funds raised
by the Hispanic Austin Leadership Alumni
(HALA) for the Greater Austin Chamber of
Commerce Foundation Capital Campaign.
This initiative is led by Hispanic Austin Leadership graduate,
Theresa Alvarez. Theresa is the Community Development Officer for Wells Fargo and has been instrumental in “rallying”
HALA members from Wells Fargo. She is now reaching out to
Alumni from classes dating back to 1999.
Theresa is asking Alumni to donate $500 and Wells Fargo will
match the $500 for each participant. All Alumni participating will be inducted as members of El Milenio, a prestigious
group of donors assisting the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation with the purchase of its own
building.
The Foundation also funds the chamber’s three initiatives –
Hispanic Austin Leadership/Alumni, Education and Health &
Wellness. The Foundation plays a vital role in our community
through its initiatives by supporting programs such as STEM
mentoring at Dobie and Martin Middle Schools, Bilingual
Toastmasters and “Health & Hot Sauce/Salud Y Salsa” Learning Lunch Series. The Foundation also supports other nonprofit organizations like Con Mi Madre, the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium and the American Heart Association. For

CASA of Travis County Hosts CASA Kids Golf Classic!

When you’re a kid, life should be all about
hit the ball, chase the ball, have fun, hole
in one! But for a lot of kids, life isn’t so easy.
You can help children in our community
who’ve been abused or neglected by sponsoring or playing in
the 2012 CASA Kids Golf Classic on May 6th and 7th at The Hills
Country Club. CASA of Travis County’s 12th annual tournament
offers Austin area golfers an excellent day of golf with great
company, fun activities, tasty food and drinks and lots of prizes. The night before the tournament enjoy our PAR-TEE at the
beautiful University of Texas Alumni Center with great music,
delicious food and exciting live and silent auctions.

abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system. When the state
steps in to protect a child’s safety, a judge appoints a trained
CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations in the child’s best interest.

Austin Bilingual Toastmasters Offer Tools for Effective Communication

Beginning this spring, Toastmasters International is inviting
individuals in Greater Austin to join the first ever bilingual
club in the area. Membership with the organization offers
individuals the opportunity to gain exposure to public
speaking in a structured setting that helps to develop presentation, communication and leadership skills. Members of
this group will have the unique experience of learning and
practicing these techniques in both English and Spanish.

Internacional invita a la gente a participar en el primer club

communication. The meetings present a setting in which
members can expand their professional network and learn
from one another by providing feedback as peers attempt
to express themselves in a professional way. Bilingual Toastmasters is an opportunity for growth, providing individuals
with the skills necessary to become the kinds of leaders and
representatives that our community so greatly needs.

BiGAUSTIN Launches Call for Business Plans & Concepts

Business Investment Growth (BiGAUSTIN), Central Texas’ leading small business development resource, has launched a CALL
FOR BUSINESS PLANS and CONCEPTS! BiGAUSTIN is hosting
its 12TH annual Business Plan and Business Concept Competition in conjunction with the annual BiG|idea day Awards and
Luncheon on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to an
established entrepreneur currently in business for 6 months or
more. $1,000 will be awarded to a budding youth entrepreneur
(grades 9th-12th) currently enrolled at a Central Texas area high
school. Finalists from both categories will compete LIVE at BiGAUSTIN’s BiG|idea day on Friday, April 20, 2012. After viewing
presentations of the finalists, the audience will select a Grand
Prize Winner from each category LIVE by ballot at the event.
