FabienCastanierGalleryisproudtopresenttheexhibition“MediosSinFin,”whichfeaturespaintingsandinstallationsfrom
CharlieAndersonandCamiloMatiz.Theshowtakesalookintohoweachofthesetwoartistsapproachconceptsofmassculture
andmedia.
CamiloMatizisaColombianartist,whohasspenthislifeinbetweentherealandthemanufactured.Hisartisticcareerhasranged
frombeingafilmandT.V.directortoafineartist,givinghimaspecialawarenessabouttherollofthespectator,acknowledging
its constant presence. With this idea being the seed from which his pieces emerge, Matiz creates scenarios that awaken an
introspectiveexaminationupontheviewer.Hisinstallationsarebuiltuponmirrorsandneonlightsthatspellphraseswhich
comment on media. He plays with trompe‐l’oeil strategies; by setting up background curtains that play with space and
perception, accomplishing a fabricated reality that allows the spectator to observe, analyze and question themselves. “The
mirrorisatooltoconfrontourselvesinathree‐dimensionalemotionalspace:thatwhichcanberead,thatwhichisreflected,
and,mostimportantly,ourimageinthiscontext,”explainsCamiloMatiz.
CharlieAndersonisaBritishartist,wholivesandworksinLondon.Herepresentsthenatureofcontemporaryculturethrough
painting,creatingworksthatarecomposedofimageryfrommagazines,billboards,propagandaandadvertisements.Bypainting
imageontopofimageandfragmentingthediscernibletextandforms,Andersondrawsparallelstothefleetingnatureoflife.
Theprocessofmanuallyreproducingimagesfrommassmediaechoesthehistoryofpaintingasaformofdocumentation,and
hisuseofthefemaleformrecallsthetraditionoffigurativepaintinginart.Hisworkportraysspecificelementsofhistoryand
society,wherehedocumentsurbanlife,focusingonsubtledetailsthatmaybeoverlookedduetothespeedinwhichinformation
is transmitted. His style can be consideredas documentary, pop,satirical, postmodernand pictorial. He exploresthe limits
betweenartandentertainmentandthechangingrollofartinsociety.

demasasylosmediosdecomunicación.
Camilo Matiz es un artista colombiano, que pasa su vida entre la realidad y lo fabricado. En su trayectoria artística se ha
desarrolladocomodirectordecineytelevisión.Cuentaconunaperspectivaparticularsobrelomediático,dondesiempreesta
presente el espectador. Siendo ésta la peculiaridad de donde emergen sus imágenes, creando escenarios que suscitan una

reflexiónintrospectiva.Susinstalacionesestánconstruidasapartirdeespejosyneonesquealumbranfrasesquecomentanen
torno al fenómeno mediático. Matiz le da vida a trampantojos, telones que engañan la vista jugando con el entorno y la
perspectiva, consiguiendo que el espectador pueda observarse, analizarse y cuestionarse a sí mismo. “El espejo es una
herramientaparaconfrontarnosenunespacioemocionaldetresdimensiones:loqueselee,loquesevereflejado,ylomás
importante,nuestraimagenenestecontexto”,aseveraelartista.
Charlie Anderson es un artista de origen Ingles, quien vive y trabaja en Londres, representa la naturaleza de la cultura
contemporáneaatravésdelapintura,concomposicionescreadasapartirdeimágenescuyafuentesonrevistas,panfletos,
publicidadypropaganda.Alpintarimágenessobreimágenesyfragmentarlostextosdiscerniblesylasformas.Elprocesode
reproducir manualmente imágenes de la cultura de masas, hace un eco con la historia de la pintura como una manera de
documentar,alavezquesumaneradeusarlafigurafemeninanosrecuerdalatradiciónfigurativaenlahistoriadelarte.El
trabajo de Anderson ejemplifica elementos de la historia y la sociedad para documentar la vida urbana, enfocándose en los
detallessutilesqueladuracióndenuestraatenciónsedesvíalaserincapazdeapreciarporlavelocidaddelatransmisióndela
información.Suestilopuedeconsiderarsedocumental,pop,satírico,posmoderno,pictórico.Alexplorarparalelosentreelarte
yelentretenimiento,yelrolcambiantedelarteenlasociedad,suspesquisascelebranlasobrecogedoranaturalezadelacultura
contemporánea
