‘Studying with the University of
London International Programmes
has been an exceptional and highly
recommended experience.’
María Belén Bastone, Argentina
‘I would definitely recommend the University of London degrees because
they combine top-notch quality with the flexibility that comes with being
able to study from your own country in your own particular situation. I feel
my University of London degree has given, and still gives, a great advantage
at work because I learned most of the things I use on my everyday job,
and a great part of these tools were not available at local universities.’
Juan Soler, BSc Banking and Finance graduate, Uruguay
Juan studied for his University of London degree while also
doing a degree at the University of Montevideo. Partway
through his studies he gained a job at one of the top Swiss
wealth management groups, where he still works today.

The University of London –
a trusted name in global education
A degree from the University of London is a mark of excellence,
respected by employers and universities worldwide.
A history of academic excellence
The University of London is one of the oldest
and most prestigious universities in the UK.
Founded in 1836, the University of London is a
federal university, made up of 18 Colleges and
10 specialist research Institutes. Among these
Colleges are some of the best universities in
the United Kingdom, including University
College London (UCL), King’s College London
and the London School of Economics and
Political Science (LSE). In 1858, the University
of London established the University of
London International Programmes to
give students around the world access
to top British education. This makes the
International Programmes the world’s oldest
provider of distance and flexible learning.
Nobel Prize winning alumni
The International Programmes now has
over 54,000 students and 100,000 alumni
in more than 180 countries. Our alumni
include many people who have shaped the
world we live in, such as leaders of business
and industry, judges, authors, scientists
and politicians. Seven past students have
also won Nobel Prizes, including Nelson
Mandela, British economist Ronald Coase,
the eminent Caribbean writer Derek Walcott,
and Hong Kong-born Charles Kao, who is a
pioneer in the development of fibre optics.
Gain a competitive edge
Studying for a University of London degree
alongside your South American degree
allows you to get the best of both British
and local systems of education. Having
a British degree in addition to a degree
from a local university will set you apart
when applying for jobs, and give you the
knowledge and skills needed to succeed
in an increasingly global world. British
qualifications are particularly useful when
doing business with international companies.
‘Studying with the University of London
International Programmes has been an
exceptional and highly recommended
experience. It offered me the opportunity
to achieve an LLB degree while having
a job and continuing my studies to get
another degree in my own country.
During my studies, I developed analytical
skills and argumentative abilities from
a new perspective. It has been a mindopening experience for me, which
certainly enriched
me both personally
and professionally.’
María Belén Bastone
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
graduate, Argentina
Maria Belén completed
her LLB in 2013 and is now
finishing her local law
degree while working

was delivered by the QAA.
‘Our daughter Mariana graduated in BSc
Banking and Finance from the University
of London in 2007. She had an amazing
opportunity to study in a university
with an excellent reputation without
leaving Uruguay, our home country. It
was also a unique chance to gain deeper
knowledge in the topics that interested
her most, banking and finance, and to
complement her local studies in BSc
Economics and BSc Accounting.
Her degree from University of London
was a huge step in Mariana’s career
and opened many doors. After
graduating, she worked at Merrill
Lynch. She finished her MBA at London
Business School last year and is now
working in Brazil at McKinsey.’

promotions or begun new careers at
top international organisations. This

as Deloitte and PwC, financial institutions
including Santander and Merryll Lynch,
multinational consumer goods companies
such as Unilever, and NGOs such as
the World Health Organisation.
‘I am proud to be a
graduate of University of
London with an LLB; this
is not just because of the
prestige it carries, but
because of the person
it helped me to become. Throughout
the course of my studies I was forced
to develop skills to be humble, manage
my time effectively, work independently,
and it has generally prepared me for
challenges in the legal profession.
As a result of my studies with the
University of London, I was held at
very high esteem and was able to
secure my present employment at the
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
Chambers. In addition, I am pursuing
my Legal Practitioner Course to become
an Attorney-at-Law for Guyana.’

Develop transferable skills

issues in a wider international context.

wish to continue to professional accreditation
may be able to get exemptions for certain
modules from six professional bodies,
including the Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants
(CIMA), Institute of Chartered Accountants
in England and Wales (ICAEW) and ifs
School of Finance. This means that if you
pass the required combination of courses
on your degree, you will be able gain your
professional accreditation more quickly.

(LLB) is recognised for entry into the legal
profession in England, Wales and many
other Common Law jurisdictions worldwide,

completed a BSc degree directed by LSE and
have also been accepted for postgraduate
study at LSE. To qualify, students will normally
have, or expect to have, a First Class degree.
Transferring to a UK university
After your first year of study, you may be able
to transfer to the second year of a similar
degree as an on-campus student at one of
the Colleges of the University of London or
another university in the UK. However, there
is a great deal of competition, so you will
need to achieve good marks. You should
contact the admissions department of your
desired university for more information.
‘Gaining the degree has helped me
obtain positions at international
banks. There are certain qualities
developed during the course, which
are strongly considered by employers
such as discipline and being able to
work off-site, which is very important
in today’s globalized world. I would
sincerely recommend my experience
to anyone in Latin America who would
like to broaden their frontiers without
incurring the unnecessary economic
and family sacrifices of moving abroad.’
Jorge Marizcurrena, BSc
Banking and Finance graduate,
Uruguay and Brazil
Jorge was still studying for his
University of London degree when he
was offered a job at an international
bank for Private Wealth Management
across Latin America. He has
since completed an MBA
at the prestigious London
Business School and is now
working in the corporate
sector at a top bank in Brazil.

especializados. Algunos de estos colegios,
como London School of Economics (LSE), King’s
College London y University College London
(UCL), estan entre las mejores universidades del
Reino Unido.

Internacionales. Eso ayuda a garantizar que
los títulos de la Universidad de Londres
tengan el mismo nivel académico elevado,
independientemente de cómo se obtengan.
Títulos valorados por
organizaciones y empresas
Los títulos de la Universidad de Londres
cuentan con reconocimiento internacional
y abren las puertas a carreras lucrativas. Los
graduados de los Programas Internacionales
han obtenido ascensos o abordado nuevas
carreras en las principales organizaciones
internacionales, entre ellas firmas de
servicios profesionales, como Deloitte y
PwC; bancos como Santander y Citibank;
empresas multinacionales de productos de
consumo masivo, como Unilever; y ONGs,
como la Organización Mundial de la Salud.
Una puerta a estudios de posgrado
Los graduados de la Universidad de Londres
han continuado sus estudios en maestrías
o doctorados de algunas de las mejores
universidades del mundo. Entre ellas se
encuentran Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL y
Dartmouth, University of Melbourne, National
University of Singapore, Peking University y
Lynch. El año pasado terminó una Maestría
en Administración de Empresas (Master
in Business Administration, MBA) de
la Facultad de Negocios de Londres y
ahora trabaja en McKinsey de Brasil.’
