But first of all she has to discover what exactly that is. Which kind of person is she? Is she a normal person? What does it exactly means? That question goes deeper into her mind. After listing every requirement, she proposes to reach them all. In that journey she'll find her brother's help, Alex, a 25 years old boy who's mentally challenged and achieves every list requirements. She meets Borja as well, a boy obsessed with diets and losing weight. They will make a curious pact: she helps him live an active and healthy life, and he helps her achieve her goal: to become a ''normal person''. DIRECT O R’S ST AT EMENT I would like to ask you something: Are you a normal person? And, after this question, I would like to ask you: What is to be normal? Seeking the answer of these two questions, which I myself have very often asked, has been the engine to write and shoot this film. I think that nobody really feels “normal” and at the same time the most aspirations imposed by today’s society have to do with a supposed normality: having a house, a partner, a job, a social life, a family life, a hobby and, of course, being happy. Many of us have tried to meet the requirements to feel that we fit in, whether on the job, in the high school, in a party or on our relationships with others; at least this is something that I’ve felt several times in my life and that’s what happens to the main character in this story. In the film I have wanted to tell how often we try to be all that is expected of us, when we should all actually aspire to be ourselves, to accept the totally of our virtues, all our weaknesses and our own characteristics. I’ve wanted to get closer to the main character problems from the standpoint of humor and tenderness, from a naive position as a reflection of this Peter Pan syndrome that affects a lot of thirtysomethings of my generation. As for role models, I’ve been inspired by the freedom of Miranda July, the humorous and strange tone of Alice from Woody Allen, and the naturalistic style of some directors as Julie Delpy, Joe Swanberg or Noah Baumbach. Music plays a very important role in the film, enhancing this naïve and indie tone that surrounds the characters. The soundtrack has been composed by the Spanish singersongwriter Luthea Salom, who has an indie-pop and folk style, and almost all the songs we’ve used come under the name of SUBTERFUGE, an independent Spanish record producer. Shooting this film has been one of the most intense and prettiest professional experiences of my life and I’m very pleased to be able to share it with you.
