Thoughts of the Pastor
Pensamientos del Pastor
Dear Parishioners,
Queridos Feligreses,
Over the last few years, I have been thinking about having
our Parish Pastoral Council function more like councils
should function. Up until now, I have been setting the
agenda, sending out the agendas and running the meetings.
The council consisted of the leaders of each group,
ministry and movement. And for ten years, it worked well
for our purposes.
Before I left for sabbatical, I had decided that,
upon my return, I would start to move in the direction of
having members of the council take on a greater
leadership role regarding the functioning of the council.
Lo and behold, at the annual diocesan priest
convocation this past November, Bishop Barres rolled-out
a plan that for us would present a new model for the
council. What timing! Yet another Christincidence! The
bishop's wish is that every parish have a Parish Pastoral
Council, that the council be formed in a certain manner,
that it be composed of certain members and, most
importantly, that its focus flow out of the recognition that
the parish be a "school of prayer" for the New
Evangelization. The council's primary purpose is to drive
the pastoral work of the parish and it will be driven by
laity but always in close collaboration with the pastor. It
is to be in place by 1 November of this year.
On 10 January, during the Parish Pastoral
Council's previously scheduled meeting, I dissolved that
council. I am most grateful to all the members who have
served faithfully over the last decade.
Over the next months, we will work to form the
new council as the bishop envisions it in regard to both
the process of formation and the council itself. The next
step--as I understand it--is for me to attend a training
session. I am to appoint one person who will attend the
session with me. It will be our task to implement what we
learn at the training. I'll keep you abreast of the details as
I learn them.
This should prove to be an exciting time for our
parish and, indeed, the entire diocese. But it can also be a
bit intimidating when one understands the time and energy
involved as well as the responsibility that council
members will have. Let us never forget, however, that the
Holy Spirit will be the one moving us through this process
over the next several months. So we must pray: Come
Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in
us the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and we
shall be recreated and you shall renew the face of our
parish.
¡Justo
a tiempo!
God Bless you and your families,
Padre Orsulak

February Spiritual Work of Mercy: Admonish the Sinner and
Instruct the Ignorant. Our patrons this month are Teresa of
Avila (Admonish the Sinner) and Blessed Carlos
Rodriguez(Instruct the Ignorant).
Carlos Rodriquez, a layman from Puerto Rico, had a
tremendous zeal for his faith. He served for many years as a
catechist and promoted liturgical reform. He had a profound
insight into the Paschal Mystery and was fond of saying, "we
live for that night!" Let us be liked Blessed Carlos and try to
deepen our faith through the knowledge of our Church and its
profound mysteries.
Teresa of Avila lived in the 1500's in Spain. She was a
reformer of religious life and religious systems. She reformed
with determination and with humor. Teresa could admonish
others because was hard on herself. She lived during the
inquisition, a dark time in the Church. She could admonish not
just one sinner, but a whole system itself!
Our practice for February is to make a good Lenten
Confession and to learn something about our Catholic faith.
There will be a box of papers with truths about our faith. Please
pick one each week to deepen your understanding.
Beato Carlos y esforcémonos a profundizar nuestra fe y conocer
consigo misma.

Important Announcement
Aviso Importante
In our parish, we have seen the great gift of eternal
life in Baptism given to so many children. Our
Mother, the Catholic Church, rejoices in seeing
the parents and Godparents’ joyful faces at the
time of their children’s baptisms. The parents’
faith-filled interest in baptizing their children
gives witness to our world that we are still longing
to be part of God’s family. We as a parish have a
great respect for your interest in the faith, as well
as your love and concern for your child, that we
would like to offer you the best formation that we
can, so you will be well-prepared for your child’s
baptism. We offer an intense baptism workshop on
a Saturday morning (8:30-12:00 p.m.) every two
months. If you are interested in baptizing your
child, you will need to make appointment with
Sister Margaret to discuss your child’s baptism.
At that time, you will register for the workshop
(you and the godparents must be registered before
the workshop) and choose your baptism date.

priests will be available to register you on the second and fourth
weekends-Saturday and Sunday--after all Masses in Marciano
Hall. For other times please call the rectory (610-372-9652) to
arrange a face-to-face meeting. We are eager to meet you!
BAPTISMS: Celebrated the first and
second Sundays of the month after the
12:30 p. m. Mass and the fourth Sunday of
the month during the 12:30 p. m. Mass.
Please call Sr. Margaret to arrange for an
appointment before attending the Baptism
workshop. The godparents must be practicing Catholics that
attend Mass and give a good example to their godchild. They
must be fully initiated, that is to have received the Sacraments of
Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. The godparents
can be single, but if they are married, they must be married in the
Catholic Church. Children who are first grade and older must
attend Religious Education classes to prepare for baptism.
HOLY MATRIMONY: Couples that wish to marry must
contact the Parish House immediately after engagement to
arrange for the necessary preparation. Couples in a civil marriage
must receive the Sacrament of Marriage by the Church in order to
receive Communion again. For this, contact any of our priests.
HOMEBOUND: Call the Parish House to arrange visitations.
Visitations are made by Eucharistic ministers weekly. Visitations
are made once a month by the priests around
on the first Friday of the month.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK: It’s a
sacrament that should be received not only by
any catholic who is near death, but also by any
that is seriously ill or weak from old age. For
more information call the Parish House.
QUINCEAÑERA: There is only one monthly celebration for all
the young women who want to celebrate a Quinceañeras in our
parish in a particular month. The date is generally the third
Saturday of the month (at 1:00p.m.) and always determined by the
parish. As a community we celebrate the gift of life in our young
ladies and welcome them to be more actively involved in our
parish as they become Christian women. Contact the Parish office
at 610-372-9652 ext., 10 four months in advance to register and
start the process which includes mandatory participation in a
workshop.
