UBUNTU! Welcome to South Africa! The World Social Forum on Migration, for its 6th edition, opens its doors for the very first time in Africa! This Forum wants to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the passing of the Father of the “Rainbow Nation”. To welcome this Forum in South Africa is highly symbolic. This is a country that opened itself to migrants and to the world after the end of the apartheid, with an asylum policy based on the Charter of Freedom. This Forum is a key event to reinforce the “Rainbow Nation”. It will lead us to rethink cultural diversity as an asset and will highlight social cohesion as a major cause for mobilization, in South Africa and beyond. This Forum will build bridges. Bridges between Africa and the rest of the world, especially Latin America, two continents linked by a common migration history that dates back to slavery. Bridges between the social movements of SADC, ECOWAS, UNASUR, ASEAN, EU, that are striving to alert their governments on the fundamental right to mobility. Bridges between migrants from all over the world! UBUNTU ! Bienvenue en Afrique du Sud ! Le 6ème Forum Social Mondial des Migrations ouvre ses portes, pour la toute première fois sur le continent africain ! Il se veut être un hommage à Nelson Mandela, à l’occasion du premier anniversaire de la disparition du père de la Nation arc‐en‐ciel. Accueillir ce Forum en Afrique du Sud, ce pays, qui après la chute de l’apartheid, s’est ouvert au monde et aux migrants, avec une politique d’asile fondée sur la charte des libertés, est particulièrement symbolique. Ce Forum est un événement clé pour donner corps à cette société «arc‐en‐ciel » qui se cherche encore, pour faire de la diversité culturelle une chance, et de la cohésion sociale un enjeu majeur de mobilisation. Ce Forum se veut être un pont : un pont jeté entre l’Afrique et le reste du monde, notamment l’Amérique latine, deux continents liés par une histoire migratoire qui remonte à la traite négrière et à l’esclavage ; un pont entre des mouvements sociaux de la SADC, de la CEDEAO, de l’UNASUR, de l’ASEAN ou de l’Espace Schengen qui alertent leurs gouvernements sur le droit fondamental à la mobilité ; un pont entre des migrants du monde entier ! UBUNTU! Bienvenidos en África del Sur! El sexto Foro Social Mundial de Migraciones abre sus puertas, por la primera vez en África! Este Foro es un homenaje a Nelson Mandela, a la ocasión del primer aniversario de la desaparición del padre de la nación « Arco‐iris ». Acoger este Foro en África del Sur, en este país, que se abro, después de la caída del Apartheid, al resto del mundo y a los migrantes, con una política de asilo fundada sobre la Carta de las Libertades, es muy simbólico. Este Foro es un evento mayor para consolidar este « nación arco‐iris » quien todavía se busca, para construir la diversidad cultural como suerte y la cohesión social como objeto mayor de movilización.
