Knowing, Living and Sharing Our Faith
5th Sunday in Ordinary Time—Year C
Today we are the “catch” that makes the Good News visible
when we allow God to work in and through us.
After fishing all night and catching nothing, Peter obeys Jesus,
putting out his boat and nets once again. He makes a great
catch of fish. Even more, he comes to a great insight about
himself. Encounter with Jesus leads Peter to see himself as he
really is (“I am a sinful man”), and to become what he is not
yet: a follower of Jesus participating in his saving mission.
Jesus “caught” Peter. He will “catch” us, too. All we need to do
is heed Jesus’ word.

Arise! IV: New Heart, New Spirit
Beginning the week of February 14th
It’s that time again!
Join us for Arise! Season IV: New Heart, New Spirit
The Arise! Program begins the week of February 14th and will continue for six consecutive
weeks through the week of March 20th.
Season IV: New Heart, New Spirit will take us on a journey guided by the message
proclaimed and celebrated in the liturgies of Lent and Holy Week.
The themes each week will prepare us for the wonderful celebration of the Easter Vigil, while
also taking time to reflect on the times we are exposed to temptation and can fall into sin.
Please join us this Lenten Season “and ARISE” as we are renewed and strive to live as the
children of light.
If you are in a group please confirm Season IV with your Facilitator.
For those interested in joining a group there is a sign-up in Commons Area for
the next three weeks.

Church Regulations
regarding Fast and
Abstinence during Lent
Reglamento Iglesia respecto
Ayuno y Abstinencia durante
la Cuaresma
Abstinence from meat (beast
or fowl) is to be observed by
all Catholics 14 years old
and older on Ash Wednesday
and on all Fridays of Lent.
This obligation prohibits the
eating of meat, but not eggs,
milk products, or condiments
of any kind, even though
made from animal fat.
La abstinencia de carne (animal o
ave) debe ser observada por todos
los católicos de 14 o más años de
edad el Miércoles de Ceniza y todos
los viernes de Cuaresma. Esta
obligación prohíbe el consumo de
carne, pero no los huevos,
productos lácteos, o condimentos
de cualquier tipo, a pesar de que
tengan grasa animal.
Fasting means limiting
oneself to one full meal on a
given fast day. Catholics who
are 18 years of age but not
yet 59, are obliged to fast on
Ash Wednesday and Good
Friday. On fast days, two
additional smaller meals are
permitted if necessary to
maintain strength. However,
the two smaller meals
together may not equal one
full meal. Moreover, eating
solid foods between meals
on fast days is not permitted.
Ayuno significa limitarse a una
comida completa en un día de
ayuno. Católicos de 18 a 59 años
de edad, están obligados a ayunar
el Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes
Santo. En los días de ayuno, dos
refrigerios pequeños están
permitidos si es necesario para
mantener la fuerza. Sin embargo,
estos refrigerios en conjunto no
pueden ser iguales a una comida
completa. Además, comer
alimentos sólidos entre comidas no
está permitido en los días de
ayuno.
