ubilee Year of Mercy
May 22, 2016 • Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
The word mercy, Pope Francis declared in his
announcement of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, “reveals
the very mystery of the Most Holy Trinity”
(Misericordiae Vultus, 2). For mercy is how God
comes to meet us; mercy is the fundamental law
helping us recognize everyone as brothers and
sisters; mercy is the bridge connecting God and
humanity, opening our hearts to the hope of
being loved forever despite our sinfulness. God’s
self-revelation as a life-giving, love-sharing Trinity
of Persons draws us closer to God in friendship and
communion. Both Judaism and Islam consider mercy one
of God’s most important attributes. Israel unceasingly proclaims
God boundless in mercy. Islam addresses the Creator as “Merciful
and Kind,” believing divine mercy limitless, its doors always
open. May this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis prays, open
us to more fervent dialogue, deepen our mutual understanding,
eliminate all closed-minded disrespect, and drive out every form
of violence and discrimination.
Please congratulate and pray for our
newly confirmed adults, confirmed on
Pentecost, May 15, 2016.
May the gifts of the Holy Spirit
bear fruit in their lives.

JOURNEY OF FAITH
We are on a long and eventful journey. Today’s readings for
Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our
human travels.
The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading
from Proverbs. God’s plan filled with divine wisdom was born
before the earth was made. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of
his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will
return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate—the Spirit of
Truth—take us onward.
This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The
very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As Saint
Paul writes to the Romans, “We even boast of our afflictions,
knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance,
proven character, and proven character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity—a
family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all called
to emulate.

th Sunday Rosary
Our local Knights of Columbus are again asking the
Community to come together to pray the Rosary on the 5th
Sundays of the month at the Old Mission. The rosary will be
conducted May 29th, the upcoming 5th Sunday of the month,
immediately following all the Sunday masses.
This rosary service will again introduce the finger rosary for
those who would like to have one. Knights will have a limited
supply of finger rosaries and prayer booklets. The booklet
includes a section on how to use the finger rosary and the
prayers necessary for praying the rosary. Participants should
also bring their own rosaries to use during the service if we run
out of finger rosaries.
The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by the Venerable
Father Michael McGivney, a priest at St. Mary’s Church in
New Haven, Connecticut. With charity as its first principle, the
organization has grown to 1.88 million members worldwide. Our
devotion of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a key aspect of the Knights.

Care for Creation
From Pope Benedict in Caritas in Veritate “It is good
for people to realize that purchasing is always a moral –
and not simply economic – act. Hence the consumer has a
specific social responsibility.” (from Lent resource Caring
for our common home from Liturgical Press). Consider your
purchases and find ways to let your spending support your
care for others (like Fair Trade coffee, sustainability, local
food which has less of a carbon footprint, etc.).

Readings For This Week
EFLECTION OF THE WEEK
May 22, 2016
Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
While the term trinity is more
the result of early Christian
communities than it is scripture,
today’s Gospel helps us see the
interconnectedness of the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. This Gospel
reveals Jesus’ words at the Last
Supper. The disciples could not
understand the meaning of Jesus’
words because they had not yet
witnessed the resurrection. But
Jesus explained that everything he
had taught them and the witness
he bore was from the Father. He
assured them that he and the Spirit
were one and that the Spirit spoke
only what had been told by the
Father through Jesus. The Spirit
would remain with the community
until Jesus returned in glory.
Reflection question:
Adult: In what difficult situation
has the Holy Spirit helped you
see more clearly?
Child: What kind of decision can the
Holy Spirit help you with?
Reflection and questions from RCL Benziger.

A Prayer to Be Merciful
Keep me from measuring out my mercy.
when I am faced with injustice or hurt,
and want to strike back in anger.
Remind me of your words to Peter
or your prayers on the cross.
May your heart be mine when I face those
who have hurt or rejected me.
Let me too Lord, also see the pain,
the insecurity, the loneliness of others.
In seeing those things, I can forgive,
because it is you suffering
in them who melts my heart.
Keep me Lord from projecting my
own anger upon others and then accusing
them of unforgiveness.
You alone heal the hurt.
You alone read the heart.!
Lord, teach me to forgive as you forgive

LA VOZ LATINA
Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad
V
llamados a emular.

A
es cómo Dios viene a nuestro encuentro;
