GO AND DO LIKEWISE
Miss Collins, the dean of students at Olympic High School, was past the
point of scolding Matt, though she liked him very much. “Four detentions in
two weeks are too many.”
Still Matt wouldn’t tell. It was only after Miss Collins went on a morning
neighborhood patrol that she found out the real reason for Matt’s tardiness.
Thump, thump, thump, came the wheelchair down the stairs. It was Matt,
steadying Shawnetta as he helped lower her down the stairs and then push her
to the corner bus stop.
“She’s a girl in my parish youth group,” Matt explained to Miss Collins.
There are many ways to describe Matt’s actions—a random act of kindness,
making a difference one person at a time. Jesus would understand. When the
lawyer correctly identified the good Samaritan as the one who had treated the
injured man with compassion, Jesus said simply, “Go and do likewise” (Luke
10:37).
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — Heed the voice of the LORD. It is something very near to
you, already in your hearts; you only need to carry it out (Deuteronomy 30:10
-14).
Psalm — Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live (Psalm 69) or
Psalm 19.
Second Reading — All things were created through and for Christ Jesus
(Colossians 1:15-20).
Gospel — To be a neighbor, show love by treating others with mercy, as did
the Good Samaritan
(Luke 10:25-37).

An Invitation from the Office of the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute
Is God Calling You to Serve as a Lay Ecclesial Minister in
His Church?
Pray & Reflect – July 10, 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time:
Today’s readings surely test our comfort zone! In the first
reading, we hear that no one is going to go up to the sky or
across the sea to get it for us – “it” being our obedience to
God – rather, we are told, “it is something very near to you,
already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to
carry it out.” The parable of the Good Samaritan reiterates
that it is up to us to imitate Jesus. We have only to look into
our hearts. We know what we must do. Ask yourself: A m I
willing to step out of my “comfort zone” to enhance my spirituality and grow in my faith formation? Why or why not?
The LPMI program provides preparation and formation appropriate to the level of responsibilities that are assigned to
lay leaders including; human, spiritual, pastoral, and theological dimensions. (USCCB’s, Co-Workers in the Vineyard)
New classes begin September 10, 2016. To speak with
someone about the LPMI program, contact Dale Brown at
[email protected] or call 727-344-1611, ext. 5458. Program brochures and registration forms are available online at the

¿A quién? A Todos. Jesús no dice
