! Roadrunners Rock!! Counselor News Rosemont Elementary November 2016 INOK—Bullying/Cyber-bullying, It’s Not Okay Rosemont Roadrunners’ INOK theme for the month of November is Bullying/Cyber-bullying. Bullying is a widespread and serious problem that can happen anywhere, anytime, anyplace. It is not a phase children have to go through, it is not just “boys being boys”, it is not a “rite of passage”, it is not “just messing around”, and it is not something that kids just learn to grow out of. Bullying is a serious, nationwide problem that can have lasting harmful effects. In some cases, it has even resulted in death. Although definitions and severity of bullying can vary, most agree that bullying involves: Imbalance of Power: people who bully use their power to control or harm and the people being bullied may have a hard time defending themselves Intent to Cause Harm: actions done by accident are not bullying; the person bullying has a goal to cause harm Repetition: incidents of bullying happen to the same person over and over by the same person or group The District prohibits bullying on school property, at school-related activities, or in any vehicle operated by the District. Bullying may be verbal or written expression or expression through electronic means, or physical contact. Bullying is not tolerated by the District. Any student or parent of a student who believes that the student or another student has experi8enced bullying or that a student has engaged in bullying is encouraged to immediately report the incident. Retaliation against anyone involved in the complaint process is a violation of District policy and is prohibited. Students or parent may report an alleged incident of bullying, orally or in writing, to a teacher, counselor, principal, or other District employee. After submission of the complaint to the district employee, the district will assign the complaint to a campus administrator. We encourage you to communicate with your designated administrator during this time.
