1. Trampas del Viento · Juan López Salvador
El escultor Juan López Salvador
concibe su obra Trampa del Viento
como una columna levemente
inclinada cuya parte superior
tiene forma de espiral. Esta obra
desemboca en un rectángulo
gigantesco que se apoya en el
suelo, el cual puede descubrirse
con las manos. Simula el marco de
una gran ventana que cautiva el
horizonte del océano Atlántico.
Su terminación en madera teñida,
la accesibilidad a este conjunto
escultórico por parte de los
viandantes y la calidez de sus
materiales, le confieren un aspecto
mágico.
The sculptor Juan López Salvador
designed his work Trampa del Viento
(Wind Trap) as a rising, tilting
column with a spiral-shaped top
part. This then leads to a gigantic
rectangle resting on the ground,
which you can touch with your
hands. It acts as a giant window
frame that captures the horizon of
the Atlantic Ocean.
Its stained wood finish, the
accessibility of this sculpture
to passers-by and the quality of
its materials give it a magical
appearance.

2. Uña de Gato · Manuel Drago
Manuel Drago es otro de los
escultores cuya obra se encuentra
en el citado litoral de Playa de
Las Américas anexa al conjunto
escultórico
de
Juan
López
Salvador. Su objetivo también
ha sido resaltar la naturaleza y
no competir con ella. El binomio
“arte naturaleza” se ratifica con su
aportación, quien ha creado una
especie vegetal, popularmente
conocida como “uña de gato”,
estableciendo
una
metáfora
poética que sintoniza hábilmente
con el tapiz natural sobre el que se
ubica, un amplio espacio de piedra
volcánica rojiza conocido como
“picón”.
Esta obra de dos metros de
altura y de amplio volumen
es accesible a quienes deseen
descubrirla convirtiéndose en una
especie vegetal de dimensiones
prodigiosas.
Manuel Drago is another of the
sculptors whose work is located
on the coast of Playa de Las
Américas, next to the sculpture
by Juan López Salvador. Its aim
was also to accentuate nature,
not to compete with it. The artnature pairing is reinforced by his
piece, which is a representation
of a plant species commonly
known as “uña de gato” (cat’s
claw), creating a poetic metaphor
which is completely in tune with
the natural carpet on which it sits
– a large area of red volcanic rock
known as “picón”.
This work is perfectly accessible to
whoever wishes to see it, and at 2
metres high and with its sizeable
proportions, it is a phenomenally
large species of plant.

3. Fuente de Las Vistas
Esta obra escultórica simboliza
las 7 Islas Canarias. Su estructura
de acero inoxidable de 7 metros
de altura se despliega en su parte
superior en 7 gigantescos rombos
también del mismo material.
Estas
figuras
geométricas
están divididas en dos grupos
representando las dos provincias
de las islas Canarias: Santa Cruz
de Tenerife y la provincia de Las
Palmas.
El grupo de la izquierda (provincia
de Santa Cruz de Tenerife) está
formado por un rombo de mayor
tamaño que simboliza a la isla de
Tenerife acompañado de tres más
pequeños que representan a las
islas de La Gomera, La Palma y El
Hierro, tal y como se encuentran
geográficamente.
El grupo de la derecha (provincia
de Las Palmas) está formado por
un rombo de mayores dimensiones
que figura como la isla de Gran
Canaria, el cual está acompañado
por dos rombos menores, en la
parte superior, se simboliza la isla
de Lanzarote y en la inferior la de
Fuerteventura.
This sculpture symbolises the 7
Canary Islands. The upper part of
its 7-metre stainless steel structure
unfolds into 7 gigantic rhombuses
made from the same material.
These geometric shapes are divided
into two groups representing

Santa Cruz de Tenerife) is made

4. Escultura de los Cetáceos · Fernando Mena
En la Escultura de Los Cetáceos
situada en el Paseo Marítimo
de Los Cristianos, su escultor,
Fernando Mena quiso realizar un
simbólico homenaje a las ballenas
y delfines que habitan en las aguas
de Canarias. Esta obra escultórica
en piedra gris oscura, simula una
ballena piloto que se encuentra
ubicada sobre el mismo paseo
marítimo de Los Cristianos. Las
diferentes partes de la anatomía
de una ballena piloto (la cabeza,
el cuerpo, la aleta, la cola..) se
despliegan de forma armónica,
sobre el paseo marítimo, como si
del Océano Atlántico se tratara.
With the Escultura de Los Cetáceos
(Sculpture of The Cetaceans) at
Paseo Marítima in Los Cristianos,
its sculptor, Fernando Mena,
wanted to pay a symbolic tribute
to the whales and dolphins that
inhabit the waters around the
Canary Islands. This sculpture,
made from dark grey stone,
emulates a pilot whale and is
located on the Los Cristianos
promenade itself. The various
parts of a pilot whale’s anatomy
(the head, body, fin, tail, etc.) are
harmoniously displayed on the
promenade, as if it were from the
Atlantic Ocean.

5. Escultura de la Virgen del Carmen · Juan Carlos Martín
La obra de la Virgen del Carmen,
una figura de piedra del escultor
Juan Carlos Martin, de 700 kilos,
fue sumergida, en el año 2005, a
40 metros de profundidad en la
zona de los Acantilados de Guaza.
Es una réplica de la Virgen del
Carmen, patrona de los pescadores
que se encuentra en la Iglesia de
Los Cristianos.

a stone figure weighing 700
kilos by the sculptor Juan Carlos
Martin, was submerged 40 metres
underwater in the area around the
Cliffs of Guaza.
It’s a replica of the Virgen del
Carmen, the patron saint of
fishermen, which is housed in the
Church of Los Cristianos.

6. Escultura de la Pescadora · Eladio González de la Cruz
Esta obra del escultor, Eladio
González de La Cruz, rinde
homenaje a la mujer pescadora, a la
que esculpe con un vestido sencillo,
descalza, con una sombrera puesta
y una cesta de pescado sobre su
cabeza que sujeta con una mano,
mientras camina.
The work of this sculptor, Eladio
González de la Cruz, pays homage
to the fisherwoman, which he
sculpted with a simple dress,
barefoot, with a hat and a basket
of fish on her head, which she
steadies with one hand while
walking.
La mujer pescadora se ha
caracterizado por el espíritu
trabajador y luchador para
garantizar el sustento de su familia.
La labor diaria de la pescadora de
principios del siglo pasado, era la
de la subir a la cumbre desde la
costa con cestas de pescado sobre
su cabeza, intercambiándolo con
los productos procedían de la
agricultura (papas, higos, cebada,
millo, verdura. Esta circunstancia
también fue motivo de que
numerosas familias se trasladasen
a vivir a la costa, para desarrollar la
actividad pesquera en el Puerto de
Los Cristianos o de Las Galletas.
The
fisherwoman
was
characterised by her working
and fighting spirit, to ensure
her family’s sustenance. At the
start of the last century, the
fisherwoman’s day job was to
climb to the top of the hill from the
coast with baskets of fish on her
head, in order to exchange them
for farm produce (potatoes, figs,
barley, millet, vegetables). This
is also the reason why numerous
families moved to the coast, to
work as fisherwomen at the Ports
of Los Cristianos and Las Galletas.

González de la Cruz ehrt die
Fischerfrauen und zeigt sie mit

einem Hut und einem Fischkorb auf

Gerste, Mais, Gemüse...). Dieser
Umstand war ebenfalls ein Motiv
für zahlreiche Familien an die Küste
zu ziehen, um als Fischer in den
Häfen von Los Cristianos oder Las
Galletas zu arbeiten.
7. A los pescadores y gentes de la mar · Inma Serrano
El conjunto escultórico “A los
pescadores y gentes de la mar”,
que exhibe en la Rambla Dionisio
González Delgado de Las Galletas
en reconocimiento al arduo trabajo
del pescador y al importante
vínculo de Las Galletas con la
tradición pesquera. Es una obra
de la escultora Inma Serrano,
quien concibe este memorial,
representando a dos figuras de
pescadores sedentes, ante las que se
extiende un trasmallo (instrumento
básico en la pesca artesanal).
The sculpture “A los pescadores y
gentes de la mar” (To the fishermen
and peoples of the sea), is displayed
on the Rambla Dionisio González
Delgado in Las Galletas, in
recognition of the arduous labour of
the fishermen and the significant link
between Las Galletas and its fishing
tradition. It is a piece by the sculptor
Inma Serrano, who designed this
memorial, representing two sitting
fishermen with a trammel net (a
basic tool for artisanal fishing) laid
out in front of them.

8. Bañistas
Se trata de una escena anecdótica
protagonizada por turistas, a
escala natural, sumergidos en una
simulada piscina. Gafas, gorros,
trajes de baño e incluso facciones
aparentemente hinchadas por el
sol, se convierten en atributos de
un acontecimiento lúdico festivo.
This an anecdotal, life-size scene
featuring tourists submerged in
a simulated pool. Goggles, caps,
swimming costumes and even
features apparently swollen by the
sun are elements of an enjoyable
and playful event.
Es
handelt
sich
um
eine
anekdotenhafte Szene von sich
badenden Touristen. Sonnenbrillen,
Hüte, Badekleidung und sogar
sonnenverbrannte Gesichtszüge
verwandeln sich in die Attribute
eines festlichen Ereignisses.
