Elementary World Language Kindergarten Unit: Nuestro Ambiente Spanish Language Overview. In this unit, students learn about Argentina in the context of a visit to different regions of the country. Students talk about the means of transportation people use to travel from one place to another. They describe the weather during the previous day and today, and predict what the weather will be like the following day. Students identify the four seasons, and talk about the weather associated with each season and the clothes they wear during each season. Finally, students identify several recyclable materials and talk about recycling. Essential Questions: ● How do you travel? (week 1) ● What’s the weather like? (week 2) ● What are the seasons? (week 3) ● What do you recycle? (week 4) Enduring Understandings: ● Argentina is a large country with a wide range of climates and geographic features. ● Argentina has geographic features and climates similar to the United States. CURRICULUM STANDARDS / STUDENT OUTCOMES Communication 1.1 Interpersonal - Students will: ● Ask and answer questions about the season and the weather. ● Ask and answer questions about travel and transportation. ● Give clothing recommendations based on the weather. ● Discuss items and identify them as recyclable or not recyclable. 1.2 Interpretive Reading and Listening - Students will: ● Read and listen to information about the the weather and the seasons; read a picturebased story. ● Listen to and watch a video about proper recycling practices. ● Read a travel brochure and identify words related to transportation. 1.3 Presentational Speaking - Students will: ● Instruct the class about where to place certain recyclable items. ● Recommend clothing based on the season and weather. ● Describe how the transportation they use to travel.
