MI EXPERIENCIA COMO CIT – MY CIT EXPERIENCE
Mi nombre es Sebastián Cruz, tengo 18
años y he sido voluntario de la ACJ-YMCA
Cali durante los últimos 4 años. En el mes
de junio tuve la oportunidad de participar en
el programa Counselors in Training
(Líderes
de
Campamento
en
Entrenamiento)
del
Campamento
Lakewood de la YMCA en Saint Louis,
Missouri. Durante un mes estuve inmerso
en actividades de liderazgo, construcción
de trabajo en equipo y aprendizaje sobre
estrategias pedagógicas sobre el trabajo
con niños.
nueva jornada repleta de actividades por
liderar, gente por conocer, cosas por
compartir, habilidades por desarrollar y
enseñanzas que aprender. Admiro mucho
como el campamento se convierte en esta
zona segura donde te animan a ser la
versión favorita de ti mismo, y es algo que
es posible a través de los valores
institucionales de la YMCA, que son
respeto, responsabilidad, honestidad y
cuidado.
En Lakewood descubres los mejores
aspectos de ti mismo y aprendes como
potenciarlos. Todo lo que aprendí planeo
multiplicarlo en mi comunidad local y aspiro
que nuevos voluntarios puedan participar
en esta clase de espacios.
Como toda experiencia YMCA, participar en
este
programa
tuvo
un
impacto
transformador para mi vida. Cada día era
una
nueva aventura que conllevó a
mútiples aprendizajes. El levantarnos cada
mañana a las 6:00 am, para luego bajar
desde la Villa del Liderazgo e iniciar una

My name is Sebastian Cruz, I am 18 years
old and I'm from Cali, Colombia. I have
been a volunteer at the local YMCA for 4
years now and I had the chance to
participate on the CIT Program at Camp
Lakewood.
It
was
a
life-changing
experience for me. It was full of learnings
and amazing moments. During four weeks,
I went through teambuilding activities,
learned about leadership and strategies
about how to work with children.
themselves. It is incredible how this place
can become a safe zone for so many and it
was precisely that what made it so easy for
me to call this place my home.
I enjoyed how much everyone shared with
us, but it also meant a lot to me how they let
us shared about our country. I feel that at
Camp Lakewood they don’t only train you
as a camper, or as a counselor, they
actually train you as a human being and
they show you the importance of having the
chore values that the YMCA promotes;
which are honesty, respect, responsibility
and caring. . Every game, activity, skit and
experience are things I'm taking back home
and implementing at my local community,
hoping they will have the same positive
impact it had over me while my time at
Lakewood.
Every day was a new adventure. From
waking up each day at 6:00 am and walking
down from Leadership Village for Morning
Watch, to participating in clinics, Cabin
Acts, Unit Games and then getting to lead
each one of them. Being a CIT is a
challenge, but is also a wonderful
experience. You get know the best parts of
yourself and you learn how to improve
them. I admire how the camp encourages
everyone to be their favorite version of
