Platform in defense of culture
Platform in defense of culture born of a natural necessity, so far unfulfilled, of Spanish
society: to unite in one space for reflection and action agents all areas of culture and
citizenship. For the first time, this cultural voice that wants to be heard and majority,
takes shape through the generous impulse of more than eighty associations, which
assume that it is essential to develop the spiritual and humanistic aspirations of our
society and address the duty and obligation of fight for the continuation and
development of a quality culture.
All policies have had-all-sign, far from encouraging the development of the arts; have
been careful to maintain the present state of inertia and promoting cultural poverty;
have pushed beyond our idiosyncrasies cultural patterns, cornering our traditionally
rich cultural reality and sponsoring divorce between society and culture.
Associations driving this Platform considerable commitments to culture as a
fundamental pillar out of the crisis, requiring an effort of our leaders for a PACT FOR
CULTURE, which, by convening a Congress of Culture, Heritage and Performance, the
foundations for cultural policies once and for all in line with our history, our place in
Europe, with its laws and our intelligence.
Platform in defense of culture is not an end but a means to get what all cultural
sectors have been demanding: the dignity of culture, making it something so alive and
necessary as health, education and justice.

Manifesto
Culture is the common heritage of all humanity and primordial form part of the
identity and dignity of the citizens of a country; is a well with symbolic value, a right of
all and a key for a comprehensive and sustainable development, knowing that the
respect and appreciation of cultural diversity are essential for social dignity and
integral development of the human factor.
Article 9.2 of the Constitution ensures that corresponds to the authorities "to facilitate
citizen participation in cultural life." Therefore it must be recognized the universal right
of access to culture as one of the pillars of building a more egalitarian and participatory
society that integrates both children, adults, and seniors as all groups at risk of
exclusion social.
Culture is not only a sector of great economic development, also has an important
public and civic dimension. Its development and enhancement should be a political
priority as they can link to sectors such as tourism, education, local development and
international projection, as well as sensitive and essential concepts such as landscape,
memory, development personal or identity.
The culture can no longer be considered only as a byproduct of development, but
should be seen by all political and social as one of the main factors of sustainable
development agents. The culture cannot be understood as a problem or as something
uncomfortable to politicians. The current crisis cannot be either a brake or an excuse,
it is an opportunity for all citizens to participate in and rediscover all those values,
feelings and ideals. Goods, services and cultural activities are not commodities or
consumer goods that can only be considered as objects of trade, even if they have
significant economic value, so outsourcing is not a good solution.
The recognition in Article 44 of the Constitution of culture as a right implies the
requirement for a public action to promote cultural development and access to
cultural goods. Since successive governments, far from encouraging the development
of this public law, have driven cultural patterns that have fostered the separation
between society and culture.
From the Platform in Defense of Culture we demand:
 The NO PRIVATIZATION of cultural spaces for public use.
 Cultural VAT REDUCTION.
 Culture and accessible and quality entertainment for all citizens.
 The constant loss of historical and cultural heritage whose value belongs to all
citizens is prevented and spurious and contrary to the common good
privatizations are prevented.
 Intellectual Property Law, Law of Patronage, Laws of Cultural Heritage: those
representatives of different cultural sectors as partners in the development and
production of cultural recognition laws.
To recognize:
 That public urban spaces are used and maintained for the use and enjoyment of
the citizens, eliminating the encroachment of these for advertising or private
purposes where musicians, actors and creator of shows any expression can
develop freely.
 A public broadcasting without reliance on political dictates that prime space
diffusion and cultural shows.
 That the teaching of the arts (music, theater, visual arts) will not disappear from
the schools, and the various artistic expressions are not privatized.
 To respect and recognize that what today is built creates, paints, writes,
composes ... is an equity value for our future.
 That promote and strengthen the work in all cultural areas: libraries, art
centers, cinemas, theaters, museums, neighborhood associations, cultural
agents, municipal schools, archives, cultural centers, alternative venues, etc..
 We ask the international solidarity and support of artists worldwide.
 We request that any LOMCE and Education Act and include in their program
adequately articulate all the values of the culture.
 We propose the holding of a conference of culture, heritage and show where a
white paper on CULTURE is developed.
Without culture there is no future and no dignity.
