¡Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo!
“No hay que olvidar el sentido de la Navidad, "el nacimiento de Jesús", que
con su Amor nos bendice a cada uno de nosotros. Estos hermosos momentos hay que disfrutarlos rodeados de la familia y los amigos, no
olvidándonos de los seres queridos que están lejos o de los que están con
Dios. Que el Espíritu Navideño os acompañe a cada uno de vosotros en
cada día de este Nuevo Año. Que Dios los bendiga con Amor , Salud y Felicidad. ¡Feliz Navidad y Feliz Año Nuevo! para cada uno de nuestra comunidad.”

El proyecto Historias Orales Hispanas del East Tennessee (HOHET), es una iniciativa de la División de Idiomas y
Literatura de Maryville College
y en él trabajan estudiantes
que están estudiando español.
La metodología consiste
en contactar a personas latinas o hispanas que por diversas razones han emigrado a
Estados Unidos, entrevistarlas
para conocer su experiencia y
luego difundir esas entrevistas
en diversos medios de comunicación internos de Maryville
College y de la comunidad de
esta región.

“Con frecuencia, amigos y conocidos comentan la suerte que tengo de tener mi familia
físicamente cerca y lamentan la ausencia de sus seres queridos. La verdad es que tener a
mis padres y a mi hermana cerca es una bendición muy, pero muy grande! Yo cuento con
su apoyo en momentos difíciles y tengo su compañía para celebrar momentos especiales.
Durante esta época navideña especialmente, pienso en todos ustedes que tienen sus familias lejos. Pienso en esas personas que se han sacrificado y dejado a su familia e incluso
sus hijos para venirse a buscar un mejor futuro y no pueden salir del país. Espero que
durante año venidero tengamos la oportunidad de tener una reforma migratoria justa y
que el sueño de abrazar a sus seres queridos sea una realidad.”

The Hispanic Oral Histories of
East Tennessee (HOHET) project
is an initiative of the Division of
Languages and Literature at
Maryville College. Those who work
on it are students studying Spanish.
The methodology of the
project consists of three stages.
First, we contact members of the
Latino/Hispanic community in East
Tennessee who, for various
reasons, have immigrated to the
United States and ultimately to
this region. Then we interview
them in order to understand their
experiences. Finally, we disseminate these interviews via a number of media within Maryville
College and the community.
Any members of the Latino/
Hispanic community in this region
who would like to share their
experiences have a place in this
project and in future publications

“Often, friends and acquaintances talk about how lucky I am to have my family physically
near, and they lament the absence of their loved ones. The truth is that having my parents
and my sister near is a very, very big blessing! I count on their support in difficult times,
and I have their company to celebrate special moments. During Christmastime especially, I
think about all of you whose families are far away. I think about the people who have sacrificed and have left their family – including children – to come find a better future, and
cannot leave the country. I hope that during the coming year we have the opportunity to
have justice in immigration reform, and that the dream of hugging their loved ones will
become reality.”
“Hello to all of the Latino community, from Belgium! Winter came here much earlier than
hoped for. Soon we’ll have snow! This snow reminds us that Christmas is approaching -- the
carols, the sweets, the gifts, and the family dinners… Who doesn’t love being in front of the
fireplace, smelling desserts about to come out of the oven? For all these things, I wish you a
