JOINING THE COMPANY OF
BELIEVERS
What will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage
from John’s Gospel (20:31) remarks today. There is
an urgency about this. On this Second Sunday of
Easter we are challenged to join the company of
believers—countless men and women who witnessed the power of the apostles’ faith.
There is no doubt that this power comes from
Jesus Christ. The second reading, from the book of
Revelation, reports John’s mystical vision of the
Son of Man, who proclaims, “Once I was dead, but
now I live” (Revelation 1:18). The Gospel gathers
everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and
receive the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we
who have come along later must have faith so that
we can have life.

UNIRSE A LA COMUNIDAD DE
CREYENTES
¿Qué te ayudará a tener fe? Las lecturas bíblicas de hoy hablan de la fe y de la duda. Se
“escribieron… para que ustedes crean”, como nos
dice hoy el pasaje del Evangelio de san Juan
(20:31). Tiene esto una cierta urgencia. En este Segundo Domingo de Pascua se nos lanza un desafío
a unirnos a la comunidad de creyentes –un sinnúmero de hombres y mujeres que dan testimonio del
poder de la fe de los Apóstoles.
No hay duda que este poder viene de Jesucristo.
La segunda lectura, del libro del Apocalipsis, relata
la visión mística de Juan sobre el Hijo del Hombre,
el cual proclama: “Estuve muerto y de nuevo soy el
que vive” (Apocalipsis 1:18). El Evangelio reúne a
todos excepto a Tomás para ver a Jesús
resucitado y recibir
de él el Espíritu Santo. Al igual que Tomás, los que hemos
llegado más tarde
debemos tener fe para poder tener vida.

ĐỨC GIÊSU HIỆN RA VỚI CÁC MÔN ĐỆ
(Gioan 20,19-31 – CN II PS – C)
Suy niệm:
1. Các môn đệ của Đức Giêsu cần xác tín rằng
Đấng đang sống giữa họ cũng chính là Đấng đã
chết trên thập giá; các ông cũng phải nhận biết
rằng Người vẫn mang những vết tích của cuộc
Thương Khó, dù đã sống lại; Người chính là “Con
Chiên đứng như thể đã bị giết” (Kh 5,6). Các vết
thương ấy là dấu chứng tỏ tình yêu vô biên của
Người, nhưng cũng là dấu cho thấy sự tàn ác của
loài người: dấu của tình yêu vô biên, để họ luôn
luôn tin tưởng dấn thân; dấu của sự tàn ác con
người, để họ có cái nhìn thực tế, biết rằng mình
dấn thân vào trong thế giới nào.
2. Tôma đã tuyên xưng đức tin vào Đức
Giêsu theo cách chưa ai làm: “Lạy Chúa của con
và lạy Thiên Chúa của con”. Ông đã đi theo con
đường dài hơn con đường của các anh em, nhưng
đã đến gần Đức Giêsu hơn. Đối với cá nhân ông,
Đức Giêsu là Đức Chúa và là Thiên Chúa. Ông tin,
ông quy phục Đức Giêsu, ông bày tỏ niềm tin vào
Người. Maria Mácđala cũng như các môn đệ đã tin
vào Đức Giêsu như là Đức Chúa. Tương quan của
họ với Người nay có giá trị vĩnh viễn và trọn vẹn,
bởi vì Đức Chúa ấy chính là Thiên Chúa. Đức
Giêsu chính là Thiên Chúa đang tìm đến gần con
người để ban cho con người sự sống đời đời.
Tôma nhận biết Đức Giêsu như thế và gắn bó với
Người. Do đó, người nào chỉ nói đến một Tôma
thiếu lòng tin, là quên mất là ông đã đạt đến
niềm tin nào nhờ sự trợ giúp của Đức Giêsu. Thật
ra các tông đồ đều thấy tin vào sự Phục Sinh là
điều không dễ chút nào!
3. Chúng ta thấy Đức Giêsu để cho mình được
nhận biết bởi bà Maria Mácđala, bởi người môn đệ
Người yêu mến và bởi Tôma theo cách khác
nhau. Đây là nét đặc trưng của Tin Mừng Gioan.
Các “dấu chỉ” hoặc các “bằng chứng”, được thích
ứng với từng người. Đức Giêsu thuận theo các đòi
hỏi của mỗi người. Rồi Người đưa mỗi người đến
với đức tin ở bên kia các dấu chỉ ấy. Luôn luôn
cần những dấu chỉ, nhưng cũng phải luôn luôn
vượt qua các dấu chỉ. Đàng khác, kinh nghiệm
đức tin của mỗi người phải được đối chiếu với
kinh nghiệm đức tin của cộng đoàn.
4. Nghe lời “Phúc cho những người không thấy
mà tin”, chúng ta cảm thấy phấn khởi vì chúng ta
đâu có được thấy Đức Giêsu bằng xương bằng
thịt! Nhưng tại sao lại “có phúc” có lẽ chúng ta
nghĩ rằng bởi vì tin dù không thấy thì khó hơn,
nên có công trạng hơn. Thật ra, “có phúc” là vì
niềm tin này trung thực hơn, tinh trong hơn.

Người nào thấy thì đã có sự chắc chắn, có chứng
cớ không thể chối cãi về một sự kiện, nhưng như
thế thì không phải là đức tin.
5. Hôm nay, ngày lễ “Lòng Thương xót Chúa” mà
Đức cố giáo hoàng Gioan-Phaolô II đã thiết lập
ngày 30-4-2000, chúng ta nhớ đến hình ảnh Đức
Giêsu từ bi thương xót do thánh Faustina
Kowalska (1905-1938; Đức Gioan-Phaolô II
phong thánh 30-4-2000 và thiết lập lễ Lòng
Thương Xót Chúa) để lại: Người mặc y phục
trắng, bàn tay phải ban phép lành, bàn tay trái
vén mép áo ngực, từ đó thoát ra các tia sáng
xám và đỏ, tượng trưng Bí tích Thánh Thể và Bí
tích Rửa Tội. Đức Giêsu là hiện thân Lòng
Thương Xót của Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta hãy cùng
với thánh nữ Faustina Kowalska và Đức GioanPhaolô II thưa với Người: “Lạy Chúa Giêsu, con
tín thác vào Người!” Chúng ta hãy trở thành hiện
thân của Lòng Chúa thương xót qua lối sống hợp
nhất, chia sẻ nâng đỡ nhau, sẵn sàng tha thứ
cho nhau.
