In one installation in Chile, I explored the idea of rock as a recorder of history by painting rocks with words in English, Spanish, and French (such as “memory,” “recuerdo,” “histoire”). They were then placed in a fountain, where the words washed away. Sometimes the rocks were taken. In phase two of this project, in Ontario, I use rocks I brought back from Chile to explore the connection between physical location and memory.
