WELCOME 2016!
With almost half the schoolyear finished please start
looking at setting new goals
for the remainder of school.
We know you can achieve
it!
Attendance Matters!
Hufford is proud to announce that our student
attendance is up this
year! With PARCC coming up in a few
months, it is essential
for every student to be at
school each and every
day. Homerooms have
been receiving rewards
for their perfect attendance. Students are holding each other accountable for their attendance
daily. Keep up the fantastic work! Remember
that each student needs
to have at the very least
an 85% attendance rate
to participate in many of
the activities and field
trips that are offered to
our students.
Be sure to ask your
child who won between
the students vs. staff
basketball game. Good
times had by all who
participated! The fans
were great!

WINTER BREAK REMINDERS
Winter break means a well-deserved break from homework and daily obligations. But before you
know it, the holidays will be over and it will be back to the bus stop. To prepare for a successful
second semester, don't let school skills like reading, writing, and math slide completely during
winter vacation. Try these family-friendly activities to keep skills sharp: read for pleasure, write
thank-you notes, have a family game night and let kids help with shopping.
In addition, please remember that safety in our schools is of the utmost importance to ensure
excellence in teaching and learning every day. Please note the following important reminders:
1) Remind your child about the importance of being alert while walking to and from school
or the bus stop and review the following tips:





Always report unusual situations to an adult.
Never walk to or from school or the bus stop alone; always walk in pairs or groups.
Always leave a distance between you and any car that stops.
DO NOT talk to strangers.
If a person or vehicle is suspicious, try to remember what the person and vehicle
looks like and get a license plate number if you can.
2) Check your child’s belongings before they leave for school each day and know what
is in their backpacks. All types of weapons, including knives, pellet guns, box cutters,
look-alike weapons, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco are prohibited in District 86 schools and
busses. Immediate disciplinary action will be taken if any student is found to be in
possession of these prohibited items.
3) Harassing, intimidation, or bullying whether verbal, physical, or visual of any kind, that
affects students or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment is not
tolerated. Policies are in place to address these situations. School officials respond
immediately to a student who reports an issue and will inform you if your child is ever
involved in an incident. If you or your child observes or hears something that might have
an impact on the safety of our school community, please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support in protecting the learning environment for all
students. We wish you a joyful and peaceful winter break and look forward to welcoming
our Joliet 86 students back in the New Year.
PARENT SURVEY
Joliet Public Schools District 86 is always looking for ways to improve communication and
connections between home and school. One way for parents to learn about our curriculum,
services within the school and parenting topics is through attending parent workshops. In an
effort to plan workshops that will be useful and meaningful to our parent community, we would
like to hear from you about how we can best meet your needs and interests. Please go on our
district website to take a brief survey to assist us with planning for future events.

La Asistencia es
Importante!
Hufford esta orgulloso
de decir que nuestra
asistencia esta mejor que
el año pasado! Con los
exámenes en la primavera es muy importante
que cada estudiante
asista a la escuela todos
los días. Las clases han
recibido premios por su
asistencia perfecta y los
estudiantes están alentando a los otros para
que estén en la escuela
cada día. Buen trabajo!
Cada estudiante necesita
85% asistencia para participar en las actividades
y excursiones de clase
que están disponibles a
nuestros estudiantes durante el año.
Pregúntele a su hijo
quien gano entre los
estudiantes y maestros
en el juego de baloncesto. Fue divertido para
todos los participantes
y espectadores!

encuesta.
