The Mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish is to celebrate the Sacraments,
share our heritage and traditions, and support one another in living and sharing our faith in this community and
throughout the world.
3rd Sunday of Easter
April 10, 2016
REDEMPTION
Do you remember Peter on the night Jesus was arrested? He claimed he had never heard of Jesus. Today we are
called to join Peter in testifying to the name of Jesus as he does in the first reading, and in proclaiming our love for him
as Peter does in the Gospel passage. The powerful imagery of John’s vision in the second reading from the book of
Revelation shows us the company we keep when we have faith in the name of Jesus. We join all living creatures,
“countless in number” from “heaven, earth, under the earth, in the sea; everything in the universe” (Revelation 5:11,
13). The dignity and majesty described in each reading are in stark contrast to the dark and pitiful image of Peter and
the other apostles at the time of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion. What a relief that we can all be redeemed so
completely!

Pastor’s
Corner
Christ is Risen! Happy Easter!
I am looking forward to our Feast Day celebration next
week. Plan on attending the Noon Mass, which will be
multi-cultural, and the reception to follow. We continue
to ask for God’s blessings through Christ, the Good
Shepherd.
In these days of Easter, we celebrate our New Life in
Christ. And, the Sacraments are such an important way
for us to share in Christ’s life. Today, Bishop Murry is
conferring Confirmation on the candidates from our parish. We pray for them and we reflect on the Sacrament.
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church (13021305):
“It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the
sacrament of Confirmation is the full outpouring of the
Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of
Pentecost.
From this fact, Confirmation brings an increase and
deepening of baptismal grace:
- it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which
makes us cry, ‘Abba! Father!’;
- it unites us more firmly to Christ;
- it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us;
- it renders our bond with the Church more perfect;
- it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread
and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses
of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never
to be ashamed of the Cross:
Recall then that you have received the spiritual seal, the
spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right
judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God's presence. Guard
what you have received. God the Father has marked you
with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has
placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your hearts.
Like Baptism which it completes, Confirmation is given
only once, for it too imprints on the soul an indelible
spiritual mark, the ‘character,’ which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his
Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that
he may be his witness.
This ‘character’ perfects the common priesthood of the
faithful, received in Baptism, and ‘the confirmed person
receives the power to profess faith in Christ publicly and
as it were officially (quasi ex officio).’”
I pray the Holy Spirit confirm each of us in our Christian
lives!
God bless you,
Fr. Conoboy

Cristo ha Resucitado! Felices Pascuas!
divina que nos hace decir ‘Abbá, Padre’;
— nos une más firmemente a Cristo;
— aumenta en nosotros los dones del Espíritu Santo;
— hace más perfecto nuestro vínculo con la Iglesia;

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
April 10, 2016 – 50 Days of Joy & Gratitude
Pope Francis reminds us in The Joy of the Gospel,
“Christ’s resurrection is not an event of the past”. We
are reminded of the ever-living joy the resurrection
brings. Often this joy gets lost in daily life and struggle.
We are called to reclaim the joy of the resurrection and
to be grateful for all God has done in our lives. We then
can respond more authentically with our time, talent,
and treasure. How can I grow in joy and gratitude this
Easter season?
A menudo

2016 Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation
Basilica & National Shrine during
“The Year of Mercy”
and pass through our “Holy Doors”
The Holy Door at the Shrine is open to the
pilgrims visiting Our Lady of Consolation and
for the faithful of Diocese of Toledo to access
throughout the Year of Mercy. In this Jubilee
Year of Mercy, passing through a Holy Door is
part of the pilgrimage that all Catholics are
encouraged to make, whether during a trip to
Rome, a trip to the cathedrals or to specially
designated churches in their own diocese. These
pilgrimages come with special graces, and they
allow each of us to share in the many blessings
of the Holy Year. In addition, Pope Francis has
announced that Catholics will have the
opportunity to obtain a plenary indulgence in the
Year of Mercy.
Traditionally, the five conditions to receive
indulgences are:
Experiencing the Sacrament of Reconciliation;
receiving Holy Communion; praying for the
Pope; a rejection of all attachment to sin; and a
passage through a Holy Door or performing one
of the Corporal or Spiritual works of Mercy.

completed their preparation usually receive First Communion in
the second grade. Also, we bring Communion to the sick, the
homebound, and the elderly in their homes when requested.
Confirmation: Celebrated annually with the bishop for
Catholics in the eighth grade (or older) who have completed the
preparation program. [Adults receive the above three
Sacraments by participating in the R.C.I.A. process—see

Or individually on Saturdays at 3:15 p.m. Communal
celebrations are scheduled during Advent and Lent each year.
