Sincerely yours in Christ the King, Canon Richard von Menshengen LETTER FROM THE VICAR GENERAL Dear faithful & friends of the Institute, With gratitude I thank you wholeheartedly for the many charitable donations received in the collection of Good Shepherd Sunday, April 22, for our seminarians in formation at our international seminary in Gricigliano, Italy. May God reward you abundantly for your generosity in contributing through your prayers and support to the formation of His priests. During the first week in July five men will be ordained to the priesthood by His Eminence, Cardinal Raymond L. Burke. Five others will be ordained as deacons and ten will be ordained to the subdiaconate—five of whom are from the United States. Six men from the United States entered the seminary this year. The incoming class of first-year seminarians never had so many Americans! Please remember in your prayers the twenty-one American seminarians in formation. They are preparing to one day exercise their priestly ministry among you. All of our seminarians pray daily for you and your intentions. Holy Mass is frequently offered in our seminary chapel for our benefactors both living and deceased. He shall so come as you have seen Him going up into heaven, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. (Psalm) O clap your hands, all ye nations; shout unto God, with the voice of exultation. Glory be to the Father. Ye men of... COLLECT: Grant, we beseech Thee, almighty God: that we, who believe Thine only-begotten Son, our Redeemer, to have ascended on this day into heaven, may also ourselves dwell in mind amid heavenly things. Through Our Lord. EPISTLE: Acts 1: 1-11 The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, of all things which Jesus began to do and to teach, until the day on which, giving commandments by the Holy Ghost to the Apostles whom He had chosen, He was taken up: to whom also He showed Himself alive after His Passion by many proofs, for forty days appearing to them and speaking of the Kingdom of God. And eating together with them, He commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but should wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard (saith He) by my mouth; for John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. They therefore who were come together asked Him, saying: Lord, wilt Thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel? But He said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments which the Father hath put in His own power: but you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth. And when He had said these things, while they looked on, He was raised up: and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they were beholding Him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments, who also said: Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus, Who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come as you have seen Him going into heaven. Deo Gratias. PASCHAL ALLELUIA: Ps. 46: 6; 67: 18,19 Alleluia, alleluia. God is ascended with jubilee, and the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Alleluia. The Lord is in Sinai, in the holy place; ascending on high He hath led captivity captive. Alleluia. GOSPEL: Mk. 16: 14-20 † Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Mark At that time Jesus appeared to the eleven as they were at table: and He upbraided them with their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe them who had seen Him after He was risen again. And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In My name they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover. And the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God. But they going forth preached everywhere, the Lord working withal, and confirming the word with signs that followed. Laus tibi Christe. OFFERTORY: Ps. 46:6 God is ascended with jubilee, and the Lord with the sound of a trumpet, alleluia. SECRET: Accept, O Lord, the gifts we offer up to Thee, for the glorious Ascension of Thy Son: and mercifully grant that we may be freed from present perils and attain to everlasting life. Through the same Our Lord. COMMUNION: Ps. 67: 33, 34 alleluia. Sing ye to the Lord, Who mounteth above the heaven of heavens to the East, POSTCOMMUNION: Grant us, we beseech Thee, almighty and merciful God, that we may obtain the invisible effects of what we have received under visible signs. Through Our Lord. VENI, CREATOR SPIRITUS Novena Prayer in Preparation for the Feast of Pentecost 1. Source: http://la-palabra.com/meditations/2012/05/20 WELCOME TO ST. INVITATION TO THE LATIN MASS With the Church document “Summorum Pontificum” (2007) Pope Benedict XVI invites us all to discover the treasure of the Latin Mass, of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy, which is the Liturgy of Rome, of the Popes and subsequently the Liturgy of most of Christendom. Over the centuries the Holy Ghost, Who is the Spirit of Jesus Christ and Who is the Soul of the Catholic Church and the Sanctifier, has created the marvelous Catholic Liturgy, and especially the Roman Rite which is considered the Mother of all Catholic liturgical rites. The Liturgy is like the most beautiful artwork and setting for the gem of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and of the sacraments. All theological depth of expression, all beauty of art, all devotion and sense for the sacred has been gathered by the Holy Spirit in the elaboration of the Catholic Liturgy in which our Lord and High Priest Jesus Christ gathers us in the spirit of adoration, praise, thanksgiving, petition and atonement before God the Father. The Latin language is a bond of unity that unites us to the Chair of St. Peter and lets us pray in the same words as our parents, grandparents, and ancestors worshipped. Jesus spoke Latin, St. Peter and St. Paul lived in Rome and spoke Latin, the Popes speak and write in Latin; Latin is not the language of a foreign nation but the first language of our Holy Mother the Church. Latin is used both in the Novus Ordo/ Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite as well as in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Latin is an integral part of the papal Liturgy. From Pope John XXIII and the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) to Pope Benedict XVI the Magisterium of the Church has insisted on the importance of Latin for the daily celebration of the Liturgy. We invite you to discover the Latin Mass and to start a spiritual journey into the heart of the Church’s Liturgy. Booklets in English/Latin and Spanish/Latin are available on the credenzas in the back of the church. Latin is a language without borders; the Liturgy of the Latin Mass goes back to the first centuries of Christianity. Latin is an open language that belongs to you and to me, to our ancestors and to future generations. It is the same Mass, it is the first language of the Church, it brings you through its depth of faith and beauty of expression enumerable blessings! It lets you breath the living faith of twenty centuries to conquer the twenty-first century for Christ! Participation at the Latin Mass is very easy: Just come and let the Liturgy of the Church charm, nourish, and edify your heart: At the Low Mass the servers answer for the congregation so that the faithful do not even need to know any answers and may follow the Liturgy either in the Missal, or by watching it prayerfully, or by meditating upon the Mysteries of Christ. At the High Mass the choir sings the answers and the faithful in the congregation may join in if they wish to do so. In order to attend a Latin Mass you don’t need to have any pre-knowledge. Your knowledge will deepen at each Latin Mass that you attend. In addition, you will learn more about the theological meaning of its rites and prayers in catechism classes, conferences and sermons which we have been offering. Just come and see and everything else will follow. Missals for the faithful are available. We also have books about the Latin Mass for sale if you wish to deepen your knowledge about the most beautiful thing this side of Heaven. In the Sacrament of Baptism we receive an indelible mark on our soul, the so-called character– which enables us to spiritually participate in the Catholic Liturgy in the celebration of the Divine Mysteries.. Our vocal prayer and our exterior expressions of kneeling, sitting, standing, folding of hands, singing etc. are an outward expression of our interior faith which is the Faith of the Holy Catholic Church. Come and see and let the Holy Spirit pray in your heart!
